This freshman class kinda built different
Freshman and high schoolers.
These young bulls are coming in ready to rock more and more every year
As a coach it is frustrating when guys don’t give full out effort until they see they are down and have short time. That reversal in the 3 period was too easy for Shane but he should have wrestled the entire match like that. Big props to the freshman for taking the opportunity to knock off the champ. Wrestling is heading in a great direction.
Agreed. Shane looked extremely lethargic and disinterested for most of the match.
Dang Shane lost to his replacement 😮
😂 That's what I was thinking... Had to be from Stanford.
Mannnn!
Wonder if his “replacement” can be an NCAA champ
Saw this kid at nationals where he absolutely dominated. Looking forward to seeing more of his wrestling
Craziest year ever
Facts
These are unprecedented times. These young bucks are battle tested and even wrestling a NCAA Champ they're not going to get ratlled. There going to be a lot of upsets and true freshman doing it this year. This is only the beginning. This is great for USA wrestling!
All of the club / travel wrestling that these young dudes have been doing is starting to show. It makes sense to do a shitload of wrestling when you are younger and the horsepower is less, so you don’t get beat up as bad. As a result They are showing up D1 ready with the technique and the match experience as well, but more importantly they don’t have the mileage that the older college guys have from the freaking grind of 4-5 years of college wrestling room torture and 100+ matches against dudes that can rip your body apart.
This is an important perspective to have.
Big facts.. only way you can come straight in and compete imho...
fun watching them handfight with opposing hands while appearing to mirror their outside single shots with opposing hands too.
Wow! That loss just really hurt knowing the team you left and the person that replaced your just beat you! Wow. Shane better do some extra push-ups for this one lol.
The message is so clear. If you are facing "the great" whoever, then make em prove it, no intimidation. Just two guys on the mat. And now, the "new champ" should look over his shoulder too, no one is too good to get beat. I hope Griffith takes it in context, just come out more determined than ever to beat him next time. No intimidation goes both ways.
Well, that's not exactly true. Cael Sanderson went 159-0.
What isn't true? Sanderson too, had to look over his shoulder and there were plenty who "made him prove it"--and of course Sanderson did prove it. My point is that no one including Sanderson "gets a pass" where his opponent roles over for him--nor should they. @@kmonty6188
That still applies. Cael showed up
Brutal. Wonder if Shane is still wrestling come new years.
I hope so. Whatever he’s going through right now, I trust he’ll figure it out.
It happens. People say they’re freshman but they could easily have been wrestling for more than ten years already.
Vito got beat a few weeks ago and he’s a world champ. These are very high level athletes
During my son's sophomore year he wrestled Norman at the Powerade. Norman is a legit stud.
Very unimpressed with Griffith's strategy in that 3rd period.
Can't wait to see the match up with Starocci and this new guy. I think once this guy gets his conditioning up, it's going to be a good match. I Still think no one can be Staroccis level, he's just not human lol.
Ummm no...
The new guys seem to get better all the time.
its most likely peds dude
In todays day and age freshmen almost seem more dangerous than juniors and seniors. It actually makes sense to me, because freshman don't have as much to lose when they go against a more seasoned wrestler. While juniors and seniors generally have more pressure placed upon them.
This new wave of kids are absolute killers!
Once Norman gets his conditioning up dudes gonna be a monster
Feels like the old guys the past few seasons have been underperforming.
Or future classes is just built different, and wrestling is evolving.
Seems to me like the new guys coming up are good. The US has a bright wrestling future if it keeps going this way.
Might one say this specific matchup wouldn't have been possible were it not for his NCAA championship?
Can't wrestle the last minute and expect to win. Also the irony of losing to a Stanford guy when you are a nation champ for Stanford, ouch.
Just remember, 1 of 3 losses by Logan Stieber was to a freshman named Zane Retherford. Retherford redshirted the next year to not have to wrestle Logan anymore.
Upset Time
There goes his #1 ranking
What move did Norman hit at 8:31? Because that won him the match and I am thinking he just made up a really odd scramble intro. How would a veteran 6 years into D1 have any trouble with that move? Griffith had a 25-2 record in the 2018-19 season. Anyone seen that move before?
Shane should have been awarded an escape point in the second period. If so he would have probably won.
Nope....and why did he allow the match to be so close if he was the better wrestler? Even Shane wouldnt have made that excuse you used.
@@avidadolares Listen asshole, Shane was going through a rough time because a teacher of his was being an asshole to him. Shane is the best wrestler ever and you are just jealous of me because I am a fan of him, unlike you who are a fan of some wrestler who is obviously less good.
Not Griffith's day - clearly didn't have what it takes. Kudos to Norman.
just goes to show anything can happen in wrestling
Imagine being ranked #1 and losing to a complete freshmen😂😂😂 I wouldn’t talk the whole ride home atp you got it lil bro
Shane really struggled on bottom in the 2nd period. Then the 3rd period he should have let him up earlier and tried to get the takedown. In my opinion Shane beat himself. Lorenzo is a tough opponent, but you can tell he is not that technical as most d1 college wrestlers. He had multiple cautions on top and really didn’t have any strategy except to hold Shane down and defend everything he did. I think Shane will win the next time they meet.
Griffith has regressed every year since he won the NCAA title.
Great win. Lousy Ref.
It would’ve been nice if Griffith wrestled back to place instead of forfeiting in the blood round
Let’s see who can stall the most for the win
Much respect to Shane, but he doesn’t seem to have much gas left in the tank.
Why didn’t they call the stealing first second period when red was holding his leg for a full 5 sec
I hope Lorenzo took the time to thank Shane for saving Stanford wrestling.
I don’t understand why these guys want to tie up high all the time. Other than being tired. I’m either coming after you with a leg take down or I’m baiting you to come after me
These guys weigh 174?
All these young kids beating the veterans
Shane gave him too much respect for 2.5 periods. Should have let it fly.
Yea wrestling a freshman, like he’s a vet. That’s too much
You never score on the shots you dont take.
@@breeves. Thanks, genius. No one has heard that before.
@@avidadolares the truth tho.
These freshmen are TOUGH!!!
Shane does not care about wrestling anymore😂, I respect his legacy but his post interview after NCAA was not it. He seemed over wrestling and have already accomplished his goals with wrestling. He is ready to move on with life.
How old is this freshman
28
That was the slowest match I've ever seen. No hustle to be found. Wth?
There seemed to be a real lack of wrestling until they were halfway through the third period.
Neither wrestler seemed to want the win.
174? Starocci #1?
He’s not in this tournament
@@armanifryeowens5518 got it I thought it was national rankkings
I hate to see Jersey on Jersey violence
This guy has been good for a really long time. This is the kid Angelo Ferrari beat in the ironman finals so it makes you wonder how he will do in college
Bore-a-thon.
Head line should read Freshman stalls his way to victory.
Thats why wrestling gets dropped at universities around the country.
I’d watch baseball before having to watch that match again.
Let’s go
it really makes you wonder if peds are involved, they definitely are in bjj.
They look so gassed
We are…Penn State. Carter will smoke both these fools.
Irony?
i was about to comment that. i think it’s hilarious
I’m
Odd match.
Damn isnt shane like 31 years old now?
I am always happy to see a bought and paid for transfer lose.....especially to a guy from his old college. I guess "transferring" didn't pay off this time
I don’t think he had any choice but to transfer. Stanford’s rules wouldn’t have allowed him any room to keep competing, and Michigan had always been a backup choice for him.
You dont know the history and why Shane is a "GRADUATE" transfer. Maybe do your research before embarrassing yourself.
Shane was a runner up and placer in the last 2 years, stop calling him champ, it’s obvious he ain’t that guy anymore
He saved Stanford wrestling. Still a great NJ stud.
Man I love seeing Michigan lose
Boring match.
