  • This video is best watched on the computer or with a VR headset. Remember you can rotate the screen 360 degrees with your mouse. If on mobile, move your phone to the spin video.
    This was filmed in Austria, I have been testing out this Insta One R in all sorts of configurations while skiing over the last couple of weeks. Let me know what you think in the comments.

    Amazing Camera. Really impressed. You get a real feel of the physics of the environment . Nice run in the sun. Totally jealous. Haven't skied since 2019 now.

    Thanks for the video! It's my first season of skiing so it was interesting for me to watch your legs, i.e. the amount of skidding/carving in the different parts of the slope.

    I like how your view points were changed on the fly , forcing the viewer to navigate the 360 feed to keep eyes forward if they wanted. I have my x2 on the way, looking forward to learning from videos like yours and others

    @Alex Wrigglesworth - hi Alex I am new to your channel - are you able to ski full time and if so how do you fund your travels - If not, how are you able to ski throughout the winter with the high prices that come with skiing (lift passes, food, accomodation etc) - I would love to know thanks

    For me it is forbidden to go there and I dont think they allow foreigners in to hotels...

    Hi Alex, cool video!🤘 I have a question and a note.
    Right in this film, did you use some about default mode in the actioncam and made only postprocessing on a computer or did you do thin tuning of many configuration options to make the record?
    Now GPS speed info is visible when we can see you, but in my mind it would be more interesting if speedometers would be visible when we can see downhill direction. I suppose that it could be tricky a little bit to shift picture of the speedometers in a video to another direction.

    • @Alexskiing
      @Alexskiing  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Happy skier, the Insta doesn't seem to be able to record data when I am using the 360 mod I guess because it doesn't support it in 360 videos anyway. I am wearing the GoPro on my head for two reasons the telemetry data and also wind noise. The audio from this video comes from the GoPro hero 9 although the audio is worse than the 8 it is still better than the Insta although I have only just started using the Insta so haven't made a final conclusion. You are definitely right about making the data in front of me when I am skiing. It's more work which I am happy to do in future videos if people like this one.

    Great video! May I ask how did you add the speed information to the video? It's so cool!

    • @Alexskiing
      @Alexskiing  Před 3 lety

      Hey Yefei I used a software called GoPro telemetry overlay to get extract the telemetry data. Exported a translucent mpeg video added that into Premier Pro then used the immersive effects to make them show correctly in 360.

    Looks good as no seams, can you edit on a smart phone or is it computer only that’s what I didn’t like about the go pro 360, didn’t edit well on smartphone app

    • @Alexskiing
      @Alexskiing  Před 3 lety

      Hi Thomas, I don't edit on my phone but the app has the features to do so and is way more stable than the GoPro app. I am making a video review of the One R and I will do some test edits on mobile so I get a better idea for you.

    Hey there, the concept of this video looks sick ! Great job of having this kinda of idea but the quality and the frames of it are crap like it just ruins all the experience we're having watching you having fun ! anyway great idea again.

    • @Alexskiing
      @Alexskiing  Před 3 lety

      Hey sim, thanks for the feedback! I am really confident in VR-type videos in the long run so I am trying different ideas out with a lightweight camera for now but you're right about this video. I will be posting videos towards the end of this year with more than double the frame rate and resolution. I am still unsure whether that would be enough for this type of video but would defiantly be for touring a resort etc.

      Hey Ivo, is it the concept of 360 you don't like or the quality?

    • @ivokoimecs
      @ivokoimecs Před 3 lety

      @@Alexskiing Hi Alex! Both. The quality is very very bad, worse than 720p. I opened it on a large TV and was literally shocked how bad it is - low resolution, compression artifacts, wobbling parts of the image and so on. Unpleasant to watch. I also don't like the concept of 360 cameras. You're missing important parts of the action while looking around. You, as a videographer have to decide what's important for this particular moment and show that to a viewer! That's my point of view, Alex, but this is your choice, of course. Sorry for harsh comment.

    • @Alexskiing
      @Alexskiing  Před 3 lety +1

      @@ivokoimecs Hey no problem! It's interesting to get feedback and you raise very good points. I get your perspective on missing the action but I think the medium you watch them makes a difference as well but it's not going to be for everyone. For example, if I break down watch time for this video on a mobile phone and on tv the watch time will be horrible VR and computer will be good. Thanks for the comments! :)

    • @happy_skier
      @happy_skier Před 3 lety

      @@ivokoimecs I watched the video on my notebook. Cons. Yes, there are artifacts but I wouldn't say that the picture is worse than 720p. On my notebook it looks as at least not worse than 1080p. Pros. From the other hand we can see the whole panorama around the skier.
