Something ELSE a parent can do to protect a kid: COMMUNICATE constantly when they are small, don't over react about small transgressions like a spill or a crayon mark and be calm and reassuring whenever a child must be punished. Let them know they are loved every day. Do everything you can to promote a healthy self esteem in your child. Make your home a place their friends want to come to. The older they get the more important this will be. Get your child involved in school groups or clubs where they feel part of something they enjoy and can foster age appropriate relationships. A lonely child is more vulnerable to predators fishing for them on social media. Most children who fall victim to predators were just looking for love. The best way to protect them is to make sure that they are so loved, so confident and so self assured that they are neither desperate for love nor easily fooled. Start early.

After going to a rogue period I face my parent and it was hard but no the end of the world. Sadley I I struggle alone a lot because I was no teach to communicate. Some times even when you have the most supportive and communicative parents, somehow it isn't enough. It's sad because VA parent can tell you how amazing vyoubare your entire life, but some kids just want/need to hear it from someone else, they think their parents have to say nice things to them or that it's not real, just "mommy talk"...JS it's not always the parents some times it's something in the kid, usually they are looking for acceptance outside of their family

I was not allowed to go on social media until I was 14 (this was 2010), and kept strict eyes on me. Now as an adult, I am glad they did because this could have happened to me. I was bullied, outcasted, innocent, and vulnerable (I am autistic) so I did not know the dangers of talking to strangers online at all. Kids do not know the dangers and think it is okay. It blows my mind that I hear kids as young as 10 having and managing their own social media accounts unsupervised. My heart breaks for her family and pray they find peace.

@Young Black Conservative I definitely think things should change. There should be laws against any romantic conversation between adults and minors. Even if it's a probation period where their internet use is monitored or a fine or some kind of deterrent. Conversation is the beginning of grooming. This guy had my daughter convinced I was wrong for not buying her a $120 pair or Jordans and because she has in Iphone 8 not a 10 and if she ran off with him he would spoil her... And the cops were no help so I took matters into my own hands and sent screenshots to everyone tagged on his social media. Dad, uncles, aunts, friends... If the police won't stop you maybe your dad will, or being embarrassed will make you think about doing it again.

I don't see anything wrong with a grown woman and grown man having consensual sex for money. It's when the trafficking comes in there is an issue. But have you been to San Francisco? Do you live there? There are prostitutes out all night in the financial district. Hell, I watched people openly shoot up on the street, smoke crack in the opened, cops everywhere not doing anything... Prostitution is the least of San Francisco's issues. I will never understand the spectrum of human beings. On one side you have a mother so distraught, shaking and unable to even speak or finish speaking. On the other side you have someone so heartless, so evil, so completely devoid of emotion or compassion. He even went as far as to cut her over her scars. The mother I have so much empathy and sympathy for. The murderer, I will never be able to comprehend how a human can be so cold and cruel as to plot and plan then go through with something so violent and brutal. It disgust me.
I had a car accident and I have many huge and long scars. They don’t really bother me but I do my best to minimize how much you can see them. As much as I don’t care for them being there. Ultimately without them I would not be here. So I attempt to always think and be appreciative of that. I’m also a grown man who got to live out most of my life where I don’t care as much. I got to go the the beach and pool. Shirtless working out on hot summer days, playing sports with friends. I’m Happily married now etc, but to a young girl who was not fully able to live her life and find that confidence and to have someone used that against her for personal gain and to use it the way they did is sooo malicious. So very calculated. Looking for a weakness for weaknesses (especially a innocent unaware child) ESPECIALLY a child. I won’t ever be able to understand how anyone can be this way or think these thoughts.

I can’t begin to imagine what Nicole’s family are going through.

It had to have been horrifying to be faced with incontrovertible proof that the baby boy they raised is a stone cold psychopathic killer, a child killer at that. I hope to God they never let him out, for the public’s safety, as much as his punishment. I used to get creeped on when I was young, but the thought of ever going out and meeting those people never crossed my mind. Its heartbreaking that we have to have these kinds or rules just to try and be safe, but unfortunately this is the world we live in. RIP Nicole, what happened to you wasn't fair.
