He was gonna lose it eventually, he may as well had used it because he SHREDDED almost everyone in his line of sight which gave him quite a lot of loot. Personally, bringing the M249 was a good idea on his part, may as well make the most of it instead of hiding it away until you are killed, only for you to lose it as soon as you bring it out.

Loved the part about finding and helping a newbie ! I love doing that after hours of grinding at high end levels in various games, and just spending 20min back at the starter areas buffing people and handing out some (to me) useless items but may save a new player a corpse run because he survived an intense battle, or a buff that costs me 12 sec of meditaing can grant him/her 30min of being godlike at their level.
