    Doc, your elbon rye has really taken off good, I know the cows are loving that forage. Looks like you got a good spread on the new seeds.......hopefully you'll get a rain soon!, after the cows trample the seed into the soil

    I've been looking into Tifton 9 and TifQuick as well. They are sure proud of it lol. But I have few areas where I think the Bahia would do better and be less maintenance than Bermudagrass.

      That’s my thoughts. With fertilizer so high, it’s hard to justify taking care of Bermuda grass in order to keep a good stand. Hopefully with regenerative practices, it won’t be needed. The thing I like about Bahia is that it survives and flourishes in poorly fertile soils. It greens up sooner and stays green longer than any other grasses in our part of the world. It’s a good hardy forage.

      @@cliffhonnasregenerativerancher That's what I have found as well. I have some of the Pensacola variety - it's the first to green up and last to go dormant. And tends to grow in the most sandy and poor areas that I have. It'll be interesting to see how these varieties do for you in a regenerative operation. Thanks for posting it.

    Mr. Honnas, may I ask your setting number on your spreader, pto, and speed while spreading? Looks like you did an excellent job. My last attempt was way too light, after resetting, way too heavy ending up with a mess!

      I set the spreader on 5 and ran at 6 mph. About half way through, I went to setting 6 cause seed not going down fast enough!

    Very interesting video, Cliff. Is Tifton 9 Bahia the dominant grass you have on your land that grows best? I’m just curious if there was any consideration into other types of grass-Kentucky 31 tall fescue or other? Dave

    • @cliffhonnasregenerativerancher
      @cliffhonnasregenerativerancher  Před rokem +1

      We have Pensacola Bahia, Tifton 85 Bermuda, Jiggs Bermuda, coastal Bermuda. Fescue won’t grow this far south so it wasn’t a consideration.

    I have the same spreader and that chart on the side is a joke. First time I use it I put 200 lb of brome grass on about two and a half acres

    Will the Elbon rye grow back for next winter and the Bahia grass be for summer grazing
