Bella Jr became an attorney and was responsible for the creation of the California Celebrities Rights Act. Protecting the images of celebrities
…Which lead to an entire practice area of law involving likenesses and intellectual property rights. Some very high profile celebs died penniless, leaving nothing for their heirs and beneficiaries until a few smart attorneys opened these estates and recaptured some of the losses that went to studios.
Bella, Jr and I used to occasionally play tennis. He possessed a wide ranging intellect and enjoyed discussing certain areas in physics ( I hold a PhD in mathematical physics.) Not sure if he is still among the living. I barely am ...😉.
I wonder did Bela L.jr receive any proceeds from the thousands who his fathers likeness through out the years ? Also what age did he rehab from morphine ? Thank you, I really want to buy those books !
Thanks for a great video. Is it true that someone else paid for his funeral?
@barneyronnie Bela Jr. is still with us at 85. His wife passed away in 2022.
It is also reported when Peter Lorre and Vincent Price went to view Bela Lugosi at Bela's funeral, upon seeing Bela dressed in his famous Dracula cape, Lorre quipped "Do you think we should drive a stake through his heart just in case?
I heard about that story and I was laughing
What a sense of humor. I think Bela would have chuckled at that one too.
It's not surprising that it came from those 2 lol
That sounds like a pretty classic funeral humor to me. The family deliberately buried him in one of his silk replica capes.
My father was in the same rehab center with Bela. My dad always spoke very highly of the actor.
Wow. That interview he made (certainly staged, but that’s unimportant) upon leaving the State Hospital showed surprising candor and was clearly a move to show himself as healthy and fully employable. I find that commendable. When you hit rock bottom you have a choice: die or climb up.
The Smoke Shop was so vintage, even when you went there. It's sad that Hollywood is so quick to tear down landmarks.
This was great. Thanks Scott
🕊️❤️🙏
The thing is all the old building aren't built for earthquakes and become unsafe. Most cannot be refurbished for earthquakes and have to come down. Yes it is sad. But at least CA not like Florida and allow people to be killed in the middle of the night when building collapse.
@@tamarabeinlich7353 , I never took the earthquake situation into consideration when I wrote that. Very true! Happy Saturday 😊
I had such a sudden sadness when you stood in the cemetery and mentioned all those names of well loved actors. Life ends so suddenly for so many. ❤ Thank you for covering Bela.
Thank you for remembering Bela Lugosi.
Died on August 16th. Elvis also died on August 16th.
It 's kind of sad that he never received the accolades for his acting as he did in his home country. He was considered the John Barrymore of Hungary.
He's bigger than that little statue on the mantle, He's Dracula for eternity, we die and disappear.
It's so sad that Hollywood landmarks are just torn down. Enjoyed hearing more about Bela Lugosi.
I loved going in the smoke shop. I just watched a Bela Lugosi movie last night called Scared To Death. Better than what is on now a days.
Bela was a gentleman and I couldn't see him cursing the way it was portrayed in Ed Wood. At least he had a proper burial with a marker at the same time.
The old school smoke shop WOW 👍
Rip Sharon and her family and her son people seem to forget him may God hold you in his arms
Loved Bela one of my favorite vampire, Jonathan Frid is my second, love Dark Shadows and still watch it. RIP my favorite vampires 😿💔😿🦇
One of my favorite Actors RIP thanks for the Memories ❤
Thank you for the footage of the Hollywood Smoke shop! 👍👍
I remember that place back in the 70s!!
Scott, you do such good work, so knowledgeable and respectful. Thank you!
Cool and sad because Time Waits For No One. I've lived 63 years now, I'm vintage and soon will depart, I won't have a marker to myself, I'll be lucky to be have my ashes surreptitiously spread amongst the stars I've admired all these years.
I love Bela Lugosi movies! Ever since I was a kid.
I grew up just about ten miles from where Charles Manson was locked up and I remember watching Sharon’s mom on the news when his parole hearings would come, my heart always hurt for her. Charles Manson was the boogie man for me so damn evil.
Thank you for clearing up some myths about Bela. I've seen Ed Wood probably six or more times, because I'm a big fan of Bela Lugosi and I thought Martin Landow did an excellent job playing him. But strange you said his son, Bela Jr. said Bela didnt cuss in real life. Strange that was the one thing in the movie I didn't like. It didnt fit my feelings of who I believed Bela Lugosi was.
Martin Landau's performance in Ed Wood was the best and I am glad he won an Oscar for it. He got it right even down to some of the mannerisms my Hungarian-born father shared with Bela Lugosi. Perhaps Bela, like my dad, only knew how to cuss in Hungarian, lol
Loved hearing about Bela's life. And that great smoke shop.
One of my favorite actors. Such a sad life 💔
He was my all time favorite actor thank you so much for the upload ❤️.
☠️You MAY go anywhere you wish in the castle, Except where the doors are locked. Where of course you will not wish to go.☠️
I became interested in Bela Lugosi from Jordan the Lion's videos. I watched many of his movies and, of course, "Ed Wood." No matter how ridiculous the role or the scene, Bela acted the hell out of the part. His performances were always believable. Thank you for this coverage.
Scott, I love how you set the record straight on Hollywood history. Thank you for being so dedicated to the truth!
I grew up with all his movies, I was born a year after his death. I love that MeTv has Svengoolie who shows all the great black and white horror movies. Bela was one of my favorites. Morphine the drug of choice in those days like opioid pills today. You get hurt then the dr gets you hooked.
I love Svengoolie show, too!💞
Another awsome chronicle of old Hollywood. I am elated that you payed your respects to Sharon while there. You are a class act, sir...
such an underrated actor. thank you for posting this.
Oh God that was SO interesting. Thanks!
One of my favorites but of course he would be such a gentleman, they don’t make um like him anymore. thank you ever so much Scott. Forever death hag here love your channel.
What is so sad that all these places are disappearing and if it wasn’t for you there would be no footage. That’s why I am a patron member. Thanks for all your hard work!!…
Thanks for remembering this great Actor may he rest in peace great video and story!
The really sad part is when Bela died he was pretty much forgotten and was overshadowed by Boris Karloff.
Bela Lugosi also was offered the role of Frankenstein but he felt the part beneath his acting abilities and created his own Monster Bela Lugosi.
Now Bela Lugosi is much more popular then ever and his memorabilia out sells Boris Karloff. To bad Bela didn't live to see how famous he had become.
Well written. I was going to make a similar comment before I read yours. I've read stories of how Bela thoroughly enjoyed talking to anyone about his life. His ending makes me sad.
TY for sharing your knowledge with us. We appreciate it.
Love your videos Scott. You are so respectful and knowledgeable.
Love love love this video Scott!
Thank you so much! I really enjoyed!!!!!!
I'm always humbled and I appreciate the videos, Scott.
This is really really cool video footage of another place long gone. My grandparents and family members are buried at Holy Cross. I've never been to Sharon Tate's grave site before. I enjoyed the video ❤
Awesome, thanks guys !! "Help me, Eddie."
Bela lugosi will always be a legend" the best Dracula of all times" no one can replace him!
Thanks for the video. I enjoy hearing about old Hollywood.
Very interesting hearing about Bela Lugosi! I do love old Hollywood and some of the actors who worked in film at the time when actors knew how to act.
Love you Scott, keep up the great videos, it's June now in 2 months I will be in Hollywood so sorry won't get to come to dearly departed I'm a big fan God bless you and your family
Thanks for sharing this video. It was a great history lesson and the locations were amazing seeing the video of the interior of the smoke shop that was great.
Thanks Scott..this was fascinating!
No one knows and explains the ins and outs of Hollywood the way you do, Scott. Your historical knowledge of which you speak about is awesome. Thank you for sharing it with us all!! ❤
Finally ! A new video, you are my favorite on CZcams!
Recently had my prostate removed due to cancer and I watched every one of your videos during recovery!
Guys get your check ups it may save your life !!
my favorite classic horror movie with Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr the wolf man ,i think Lugosi was the best dracula thank you Scott Michaels . much appreciated safe travels
Random fact: The song 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' by Bauhaus is the theme to the A&E short doc series "The Killing Season" about the Long Island Serial Killer. Highly recommended watching. Produced by Alex Gibney, who also did the great doc "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room."
Amazing how Bela and Christopher Lee are now together forever
Thank you for clearing up the facts and sharing the story of Bela Lugosi.
Thanks, Scott, for the great story I love Bela. RIP Bela
I've read that when the movie Dracula premiered, women in the audience screamed or fainted.
Great video Scott. My first “ Scary Movie” was Dracula starring Bella. A local show called Creature Features, in Oakland, Ca. I think I was 6? I loved it, completely glued to the TV, not scared at all.
I remember that show! The guy on Creature Features was that smallish guy with the big cigar?? I really liked him and always looked forward to his show! Wonder what happened to him.... Channel 2, wasn't that it?
Thats a real nice story of Bela Lugosi s last days very sad and nice. Its kind of ironic Bela Lugosi passed away on Augest 161956. The same date that Elvis passed away on Augest16 1977.
Babe Ruth in 1948
Thank u Scott! U have the best content of old Hollywood History! Love this channel and
appreciate all your hard work!
Thanks Scott ❤😊
Remembering Bela today. RIP 1956
💞 My favorite aunt & uncle are interned at HCCC, I didn't realize they had such illustrious neighbors, RIP all. 🍂
This was most enjoyable! Thank you again Scott! Seattle ❤
Thanks for this ❤my favorite line from “SOS Coast Guard” is “you clumsy fool” as he said this to Richard Alexander 😮
Thanks Scott - excellent primer for tonight’s Svengoolie showing of “Night Monster”
❤️❤️❤️
November 20th 1978 . The RAMONES at The Punch and Judy Theater. Did you go to this concert? Also i am a postman at the grand Shelby station in Detroit. I drive past your old house on my way to work every day. I grew up in Needles California if you can believe that.
I love your videos
This is so awesome! thankyou so much for this video, Huge Bela fan! very much appreciated! :)
Excellent Content… more!
Bela Lugosi, I love this man.
Thank you Scott! Thank god you have saved so much of Hollywood that is now getting destroyed. ❤❤❤ Hags forever ☠️
A Hungarian person told me that back home he would have pronounced his name Lugosh and not Lugosee. I guess he used an anglicised version in America so people wouldn't be confused.
Yes, the lone letter "s" is pronounced "sh" in Hungarian. The "s" sound in English would be "sz" in Hungarian.
What an interesting and full life Mr. Lugosi had.
Great Vlog...thanks Scott.
These stories are so awesome. I wish i was your camera guy. Just fantastic to see all the buildings and landmarks.
Wow, he died the same year I was born that is sort of a shocker for me! When I was really little, I would sit up at night & watch Dracula & Frankenstein movies with my teen brothers while my mom was at work. My dad would be asleep. I remember when we would see the headlights of her car, the TV would go off & we would all have to rush off to bed. Those were the days. When we only had four channels in the Detroit area & Southfield was more like the Woods. I’m trying to invision Hollywood Blvd from 1977-80 when I use travel the area as a young acting student. It looked very different then. Thank you Scott for preserving the history of the area so we can remember it as it was, so we don’t forget.
Good stuff as always Scott...Thanks for sharing!!!!
I used to work close by Holy Cross Cemetery and would often go there on my lunch hour to look at all the amazing gravesites. This was in the late 1980's. I became friends with the caretaker there, an elderly man named Paul. He was initially very suspicious of me when I would ask him questions as he thought I was maybe a reporter for a tabloid. He used to tell me stories of so many things he witnessed over the years. He said that Bela Lugosi's grave attracted characters galore! People would dress up as vampires and just come and sit there. Also, people would have elaborate picnics and meals at his grave. One time the fire department had to be called as someone started a huge fire right in front of his tombstone ! I always told Paul that he should write a book about all the stuff he had seen!
Aww, Scott. Thank you so much for the wonderful coverage ~ all so edifying & poignant. & I am still reeling with gratitude for the footage of the defunct smoke shop. Glorious.
Thank you for covering this so respectfully Scott. Your videos are always so interesting and I have learnt a lot from watching your videos. I really appreciate what you do for us. Thanks again. All my very best wishes from Rose.🌹
Thanks for this.
It’s been several months since you have done a Dearly Departed podcast. Is one in the works? Thank you & love all your hard work.
Cool Smoke Shop!
Sleep well Bela and Sharon ❤️❤️❤️
5:04 that portrait was for sale a few years ago.
Wow, I saw that too, it should be somewhere.
I love all the correct facts I his video. Great stuff.
Peg Entwistle is buried right next to where I'm from in Cincinnati. Oak Hils Cemetery in Glendale Ohio, I think? Another fact, Otto Warmbier is also buried there. He was the young college student that was held captive and ultimately died, by North Korea for stealing a poster from an off limits area in the hotel they were staying. Crazy story.
Excellent video!!
Thank you 😮
I could sit and listen to your stories all day SCOTT , THK YOU GREAT VLOG AND THK YOU FOR CLEARING UP SOME RUMORS ❤
Thanks Scott - as always

Great job as always and thank you for adding Sharon and her son in this video. Sharon Tate was an absolutely gorgeous lady. It's so heartbreaking her departure from this world and far too soon. She was looking forward to seeing her baby's arrival. Eternal rest to both of them.
Great video
