    It still surprises me how insane the design of toilet stalls is in the US. In the UK, all doors are floor to ceiling (barring some train station toilets) and all fully close with no gaps in the door. How that is not the standard in the US, especially with the standard fear people seem to have of other people, is beyond me!

    • @Sanguine_Entertainment
      @Sanguine_Entertainment Před 2 lety +13

      The reason is it will be faster/easier to clean because you can slide the mop under the door. There is also a notion of safety that someone can't go hide a kid in a stall or whatever. I'm not saying any of the reasons given for these setups are good reasons. The real reason is just cost-saving. They're being cheap. The mop guy can mop faster and get just a little bit less of his already very low wage. The installation of the doors is and walls are simple, so simple they can often be done by that same underpaid mop guy! The locks are flimsy, because it's cheaper. The walls are shorter because they can be gotten into place easier to install.

      @HurricaneHawk Před 2 lety +11

      @@dr.pepper9996 It's not a superiority thing, just a question of how having a gap in a toilet door doesn't make others feel uncomfortable. I personally hate the fact that anyone can look through the door if they wish to.

      @@HurricaneHawk I think old bathroom stalls are like this. I live in a 3rd world country and prestigious and modern establishments have well-designed bathroom stalls. There are still poorly designed ones, but like I said, mostly those that are made pre-2010s and in more public-accessible establishments.

    • @HurricaneHawk
      @HurricaneHawk Před rokem

      @@eradict Sadly in the US, these type of doors are the norm. Since moving to the US in 2011, I can probably count on 1 hand the number of toilets I've gone into that did not have both a big gap under the door and enough of a gap on both sides that anyone could look at me if they wanted to. It's honestly baffling to me that this has not changed.

  • @aevalk8369
    @aevalk8369 Před 2 lety +2

    It's even worse in the ladies room. The stalls in some public buildings, such as medical facilities, are getting very narrow so they can squeeze more in there; and the mounted metal box to hold certain items that cannot be flushed takes takes up room too. I don't know how big women navigate it because it's next to impossible to slip off a shoulder bag to hang on the hook behind the door without it or your body brushing up against the stall walls or the box. Wearing thick coats in the winter adds to the issue.
    It's nearly always clean to the eye but many of us don't want to touch the walls or anything. The reason being is when a toilet is flushed without a cover, very tiny droplets go everywhere; which is why when they do a test in home bathrooms often some traces of nasty stuff are found on toothbrushes because they're usually not covered.
    I think this one is the first time an outright freaky guy doesn't bother to hide his creepiness at these strange gatherings. For me the best part is Protesting Guy. Ryan needs to bring him and Pervy Guy back; perhaps make it a reoccurring thing at their brainstorming meetings.

No. The real reason is that US public toilets are designed to be uncomfortable to use, so that people won't spend long times there, and therefore they will work more. It's just the capitalistic way of the US.

    Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
