      Also, when you want music to go with massive creatures in the dark depths of the ocean, you usually set something ominous to it, dangerous or not.

    • @Atheria100
      @Atheria100 Před 6 lety +12

      The game ARK: Survival Evolved has very accurate representations of both these prehistoric beasts. The megalodon is very noticeably smaller (took three tries to line up properly because big fishy kept moving around) being around only a third the size. The leedsichthys has been speculated to have has the same temperament as every other plankton-feeder, which has also been reflected in ARK. Shame you can't tame the leeds in the game; however, you can pen them up as my tribe has had three and can be manipulated as a form of defense, one of said three took out 5-6 enemy-tamed megalodons as well as a few other things before it was killed.

    • @janetlapham3919
      @janetlapham3919 Před 6 lety +145

      we have not thoroughly explored most of the ocean, but if there is anything worthy of the title leviathan, then we would of noticed it. large animals need lots of space, and lots of food. we would also see it on sonar, and we have used sonar pretty much everywhere.

    • @alexgalindo476
      @alexgalindo476 Před 6 lety +42

      jerrod lapham we Have mapped our the deep ocean trenches. Do you know how much exploration that took? There is plenty we Haven't explored but thats because we have a pretty good grasp of what's there. It costs too much just to find and study new microscopic species and trash and etc.

    • @janetlapham3919
      @janetlapham3919 Před 6 lety +10

      precisely. we have a pretty good idea of what is there, but we don't have the time and money to put each microlitre of water to intense study. its not worth it.

    • @michaelvance7936
      @michaelvance7936 Před 6 lety +42

      We know more about space than we do the ocean. Only a few times have we successfully went down to some of the deepest points. The ocean is bigger than all land masses combined. That's a lot of water to explore. So yeah there could be something huge down there and we would never see it. Actually it doesn't even have to be at the bottom of the ocean. The ocean is so vast that there could be a rare species of some creature that is only a couple hundred feet down.

    Here's a fun fact for ya. This monster only has 1 descendant living today. The bowfin. I've actually caught a bowfin in far East Texas before. Pretty cool catching a descendant of the largest fish that ever lived! Someone should have informed Jeremy Wade that the bowfin and Leedy are related! Would have made for a nice catch opportunity. Plus bowfins themselves are kinda scary.

    • @XaeeD
      @XaeeD Před 3 lety +2

      Megalodon's size is often exaggerated in pop-culture. There isn't even a consencus on its size. The approximations vary, going from 11 meters up to 16, similar to large Mosasaurs. Whale sharks can grow bigger than that. But yeah, Megalodon is the largest predatory shark we know of. Compare that to the largest recorded male Physeter macrocephalus sizes, and it's clear that even though Megalodon was monstrous, modern day sperm whales are substantially bigger. They might even be the biggest predators that have ever existed. Leedsichthys is now estimated to have been around 13 meters on average, with large individuals reaching up to 16 meters. The body sizes of these prehistoric creatures tend to be over-estimated at first, but it's quite typical that over time, as our knowledge grows, such estimations are reduced and lowered. It takes a while for this to reach the masses, though, and so when you read up to date scientific papers, you'll see more realistic size estimations, whereas pop culture still lingers on those truly gigantic estimations. Look at "The Meg", the movie, for instance. People just like to hear about 30 meter long Leviathans, and everything has to be bigger and larger and more mysterious than it actually is. I blame America for this, lol.
