In this video, Kenny gives you a walk-around of both the last gen and the new model, explaining the differences, upgrades, and why we think the Ryobi RY401210 is a great investment.

On my second season with this mower. So far so good. I have a small yard and I could probably mow 2x on one battery. It’s nice quiet and the cross cutting and mulching is great. Got this as a package deal with the whisper series blower.
Nice deal. I just picked mine up yesterday and did the lawn one batter entire back, side, and front. My entire house lot is shy of 7000sqf. Super quite, love it.
I still like my original cross cut mower after my second summer of use, however there are a few things about this mower and system that no one talks about. The main thing that is worrisome is the batteries. When I first purchased the mower I could do about 8/10 of my 1/4 ac. yard with one battery. As time went on, the batteries started to get weaker and weaker to the point where I could not mow my entire yard with the two 6ah batteries. My yard is flat St. Augustine grass and I cut it on #3 because it is very healthy and thick. Sometimes after getting some rain the mower would have to rev up to get thru the thick grass and the batteries would heat up. There is where I think the problem is with these batteries. They don't like to be heated up from use or from storage and they degrade fast after a few times of heating up. I did call Ryobi and they did send me two free of the new 6ah HP batteries, but to be honest I don't see much difference between the HP and regular batteries when they were new. Not sure why they could not put in some cooling technology like Ego has, it would have saved them a bunch of battery returns. Also the mulch plug is not the best and will leak some grass until the gaps fill up with enough grass to stop up the leaks. Another thing that is really annoying is it constantly leaves uncut grass behind so I have to keep going back over spots with the mower or with the trimmer. I even tried mowing the whole lawn on the slowest speed and still have this happen all the time. I do keep my blades very sharp so that is not the issue. I also overlap pretty good so it is not that either. The problem is the blades will just not turn fast enough at regular speed to create enough suction to lift all of the blades. In summation, I still like the mower despite these shortcomings, but after my 3 year warranty is over on the batteries I am going back to a Honda gas mower.
So about two years of battery life you would say it lasts?
@@mAUoalajkso I would say yes, but they will send you more batteries for free.
Back in October 2022, Honda sent out a notice through its dealer network that it would cease manufacturing gas lawn mowers beginning in September 2023. It plans to continue selling the units through 2024 until they are gone.Feb 4, 2023.
Buy it now.
Your welcome......
How do I shut the light on my Ryobi 21” cross cut to preserve battery power
@@rppelletier9762 you don’t. The light use’s almost no power
Got this model Brand New off OfferUp this morning for $150. He kept the battery’s and charger. Still had the manual in the battery compartment. Already have 40v batteries @Home so it’s a win for me.
Am a woman who is mowing our lawn for the first time (hubby is away) and this video helps me what to do!😊
I tell people that electric mowers allow many more people the ability to mow. I really like my Ryobi that I have had now for two summers. I don't have to worry about gas and pulling my shoulder out trying to start my craftsmen gas powered mower.
Question the flap where the grass comes out doesn't stay down when the bag is on. How do I make it stay down so all grass goes into the bag. Also, that lever that u raised for the mulch that goes left to right is sticking n not going to the right. Any idea why?
I got this one for a deal at HD, $799 with a free tool, so I also got hte 40v straight shaft trimmer
👍
Just saw that promo yesterday, thinking about going for it ! 😅
I would jump at this mower if that was the price right now. But in Hawaii, it's currently $1029. Ouch.
very nice review awaiting a delivery listening to yours will save me lots of time learning it and reinforces my decision to choose it
Thank you @petminders4274 ! Let us know if you have any questions!
I also have this awd ryobi lawn mower. It’s nice but heavy mower. I got it for $350 with 2 batteries at Home Depot Return. So lucky
There's no way you got an $800-$850 mower for $350.
@@pacman1789 they sell it right now at home depot for 400.... so yeah i think they did get it for that much
I bought this cross-cut Ryobi mower based on the almost universally positive reviews on CZcams. I've now concluded that CZcams reviews are, by and large, made by "influencers" and wannabes who want free merch, or to get paid, and can't be tursted. I regret selling my gas mower and buying this. Two batteries won't finish even my small, 1/4 acre, yard and the cut is uneven and ragged. First bad experience I've had with a Ryobi tool.
Please mention if the Whisper updated model comes with the rapid charger. I certainly would hope so. Thanks 😊
I wish they would put a button to make it run higher RPMs all the time for better bagging! I have plenty of extra batteries so less runtime is not a issue for me!!!
I had the luxury to compare both Ryobi and Ego and to be honest...I have to say I like Ryobi more because the EGO's overheating protection is a little sensitive.
With this one being I think the 4th version of a lawnmower from Ryobi and 3 to 400 hundred less than milwaukees idk why someone would choose the M18 Mower especially since I can't find that m18 mower tool only, only in a kit for $1099 I seen it drop to $999 for 2 days then jump back up
Total INCHES of WIDTH w/discharge chute cannot be found anywhere, nor even here .... otherwise, great video, thanks
Hi, I'm looking for a replacement key for my Ryobi lawn mower. The model is Ry401210; however, I can't find that part. Can you help?😢
5/11/24 how's the battery status and integral strength measuring up these days?
Do you find that the mulching plug on the original does not fit well enough to close all gaps? In other words, do grass clipping escape? Does the whisper version solve this problem?
Is there a reset button on the Ryobi lawnmower? It just stopped and won't restart after charging the batteries. Please advise
Hello again Pro Tool Reviews
Thank you for another Great Video. Have you made a comparison of the different electric mowers available. I am just Starting my research. Again thank you
Where do they go from here
howq does it compare against the competition?
Can the self propelled feature be used without the blades turning?
Yes. I discovered this the hard way. LOL
The handle is too low on the original crosscut version. Being 6'2" it is uncomfortable for me even in the highest position. Can the new model raise it higher or is it still just 2 positions?
Still 2 positions but I'm 6' 1" and its fine..I have both these models 🙂
Maybe you have small dinosaur arms 😂
I'd love to see a (locking) Front Caster Version with RWD for tight turns on the Contures of the Property.
No power on the Ryobi lawn mower plus you have to wait about an hour and 15 min to a full charge to continue cutting unless you get a second battery
How long does it battery last?
wow a review that is totally sponsored.
Yeah I felt like that as well
My blade won’t turn
What do you mean we
Battery dont last.
These mowers suck. Don't buy them... Had for 3 seasons, each one with problems. Cannot rely on it being available when needing to cut the lawn.
What problem did you have? I’ve had one for 2 years and it’s been great. I have just under an acre to cut, but I do have 4 batteries and 2 chargers. The AWD helps with my hill, but that’s the only time I turn it on.
@@adventurefuel5172 Year One: the whole thing died, but HD wouldn't exchange. Took it in for warrantee repair, they replace the whole motor. Year Two, lost the two batteries, replaced via warrantee. Year Three: Will drive itself, but blade won't engage. I'm done with Ryobi mowers.
Be careful with Ryobi. They seem to be doing the "death rattle" Their social media is covered with people having issues with cheap built products. Watch Home Depot start to distance next. Not looking good. I'm extremely upset, I have about $7000 worth of eqt with them and I'm having stuff fall apart left and right now.
Recently was the worst and their customer service is a black hole. "sorry, parts wont be here for 13 months, thats all we can do is wait" - Its insanity.
I purchased a new mower (Crosscut) early last year. It failed by factory issues before the season was over. I sent it to Ryobi for repair. Was told will not be repaired until after March. Will be over 7 months of repair. I need a better solution before Feb. (season starts) - I am looking at not getting this lawn mower back/fixed at all in time for this season and it was sent to them in September.
You won't see Ryobi anywhere except Home Depot in the US. They have an exclusive marketing agreement.
Ya, Ryobi and Rigid are basically the same company. Different lines and all that, low/mid vs higher end, but HD has the exclusive on the brand. They will not be distancing themselves from Ryobi lol.
I’ve actually heard that HD bought ryobi. It was basically a name at that point…it’s as much an HD house brand as Rigid though I’ve seen Ryobi marketed more broadly around the world.
This mower is a DO NOT BUY. Only used about 10 times on easy in town lawn and now will not start with fully charged batteries. I’ll Never buy anything Ryobi again!
Gasoline mowers are better
Broadly speaking I agree. UNTIL the Toro 60v Max Super Recycler came out. It’s a monster. So so good.
Boy ryobi, copy Honda much??
Honda has a battery mower?
@@skyemac8 he's referring to the double blades..
@@pinballdan Ego has double blades as well.
@@pacman1789 Yeah I have a older 2019 EGO that's only a single blade setup but it works great as I put a high lift bagging blade on it since I always bag the grass clippings...
Makita also has dual blades, it's not just a Honda thing.
