I still remember the first time I listened to Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. I was listening to the original KPPC FM late one night and the DJ said his buddy just walked in with the new Spirit album and he was going to play the whole album for us. It was the most amazing music I ever heard in my life, and it is still just as amazing today. I think Spirit was one of the most underrated and underappreciated bands ever.

randy taught me chords to "nature's way" one night where he was playing small place ojai. used to see him around ojai and just talk a little. used to see john locke at a breakfast place and talk about his days playing with randy and spirit. great stories, both of them. never forget those chords and randy, john and spirit. thank you all for priceless music....

      Randy was your brother?!
I worshiped your brother and his band like gods back when I was in high school 1966 to 1970, and on.
He had a profound influence on me culturally, and one of the best live concerts I have ever seen in my life was when he played live at the Spectrum in Philadelphia in the early seventies with Jethro Tull.
How much did Randy complain when he wasn't allowed to go to England with Jimi Hendrix in 1966? Not that I blame your parents... he was 15...lol

My boyfriend in 1969/1970 moved from LA to small town South Carolina and brought a lot of great music with him That we had never heard. I fell in love with Spirit and natures way. Went off to art school in Sarasota and saw them in concert and was able to say a few words to Randy during the drum solo. I was so elated! Natures way still is my heart’s cry.

  • @1blastman

I always wonder how great a guitarist Randy could've been had he been able to go with Hendrix to England when Jimi left with Chas Chandler. The legend is Jimi asked Randy to go with him, but since he was only 15 at the time, his family understandably put the brakes on that idea. But what if....... Randy been the rhythm guitarist in the Experience? Imagine the sounds they could've produced on stage together?
Thumbs up if you think Spirit should be in the R&R HOF.
[Ok, the HOF is a POS for putting bogus people in, but leaving Spirit out is shameful.]

I don't want to get into a petty argument , but Ed Cassidy was much awarded Jazz drummer and played with many jazz greats. Just like many famous drummers who started joined the rock and roll ranks from jazz. I think the recordings in the 60's and early 70's covered up alot of brilliance. Besides he kept Randy interested music even more so than the best guitarist I've ever heard Jimi Hendrix.
