      Perhaps think about not using other photographers' pics in your videos. Apparently Jamie Windsor was sued over just such innocent use, fair use is a bit of a nebulous standard apparently.

    Totally! So important that the frame enhances the look and 'fits' the subject, but maybe that it adds some meaning too. Love that Bruce Davidson 'Cigarette' shot...

    Hi Alex, thanks for the great examples you showed. We photographers rarely talk about framing now, it's good to be reminded every now and then. Great presentation and well delivered. 😊

    Remember the old movie producers would put their fingers in position to form a frame of what they envisioned in the scene? That would be a good idea to bring back.

    Alex, what was the purpose of the second camera angle? It felt disjointed. The lighting, color grade, and audio didn't match the content from the main camera. I like the concept, though. Also there was too much empty space to the right of you. Maybe a graphic of some sort would help.

      There's more to the video than many of us are seeing like the framing in the second angle and the use of empty space Alex has covered in a couple of past videos but the lesson is there in fairly plain site we just have to free our minds so the creative focus in there can see it

    • @Daniel_Ilyich

      @@alvinmorris5404 How is the empty space contributing there? I was referring to the lack of visual continuity between the two views and the quality of the audio. It's improved, since then.

    Alex your channel is great in so many ways, I feel like I learn something each video even though I've been shooting photos for years.
    I really appreciate you take the time to find pictures from other artists too, having that inspiration is a fantastic touch.
    If you were starting to collect photo books from different portrait photographers, what ones would you start with?

  • @alangardner8596
    @alangardner8596 Před 4 měsíci +1

    Composition is simple, the old masters of art knew what to do. There should be something in the picture that immediately catches your eye and then the eye circulates around the picture finding other points of interest and then returns to the main subject and repeats the journey finding other things of interest and then later can return to the picture and enjoy the experience.
    It's simple but not very easy to achieve in a photo.
    If your photo can be seen, not observed for long and does not return you need to try harder.

    I find framing so difficult, it really messes up my mind, it’s as if I can’t see it. But I’m slowly becoming better at it and you explained it very well so I will just keep on practicing and watch this video again 😅.

  • @Daniel_Ilyich
    @Daniel_Ilyich Před 4 měsíci

    Right, I couldn't pick up on what was "off" about those images at first glance, but, yes, the framing feels forced. It's as if the subject was a secondary consideration. However, I do think it's a good exercise to look for creative waves to have a frame within a frame.

    I've heard another CZcams photog mention that the 50mm lens is easier to compose with than, for instance, the 35mm, but is more difficult to frame with. Does anyone agree and can you expand upon this idea? What makes the 50mm focal length difficult to frame with?

    • @yopuivideo
      @yopuivideo Před 4 měsíci

      It gets even easier with a 90mm lens. I can choose a small part of a larger scene and only shoot that. With a wider lens there are so many elements in the image and making it cohesive can be really hard. When you get it right though..

  • @simonpayne7994
    @simonpayne7994 Před 4 měsíci +1

    Using a second camera for your videos is certainly not a bad idea. However. I think you overdid it. Too many jumps, jumps too far, jumps not-motivated in any way. Less would be considerably more. Maybe alternating between semi-wide and talking head close-up would be better than alternating between semi-wide from the front and semi-wide from the side.
    The subject - framing - is definitely interesting. One other person commenting here found the appropriate expression. The framing must not look "forced". In other words, it has to fit inauspiciously into the picture and blend in quite naturally with the motive.
