      i've owned 8 motorcycles, both japanese models and harleys. the last bike i owned was a suzuki gs 750, which was likely suzuki's response to the cb 750. that bike was no slouch, and i know somebody who owned a 750 nighthawk who vouched for it as a great commuter bike; in LA of all places, too. i'd buy a nighthawk.

    Completely agree with your analysis. I would definitely have considered a Nighthawk when I bought my first "big" bike. Circumstances dictated my choice, nearby, right money, good fit, and reasonable ease of maintenance were key factors. I bought a 2000 GSX600F, 11000 genuine miles, £1500. I'm 6ft 3ins, 64 years old, and passed my test Feb 2022. (Rode Fizzy and TS125 back in the 70's). I absolutely love the bike and will never part with it (I do want a Z900RS in the future, pennies permitting). Great vid again, cheers, Andy.

    May years ago, I bought a Honda Cd250u. It was best described a s a parts bin bike (basically looked like Honda put it together with parts already in their catalogue). It was a very uninspiring bike to ride, but was a perfect commuter. I remember the mid 90's Japanese manufacturers releasing their UJM's. Bikes like Kawasaki Zephyr 750. Very basic bikes, but had a purpose as cheap commuters.
    I bought a Kawasaki GPz750 about 6 months ago. Great fun and something different than the other bikes in the garage.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  Před rokem +1

      Parts bin bikes are often the best, Suzuki do it all the time and it's why stuff is so interchangeable! Which is how it should be. A k8 clutch system fits my srad like!
      UJMs are such a good idea and we're very well executed too back then. Those bikes are still around in large numbers and still good bikes, which says it all.
      That'll be a sweet bike to mess about with :)

    I look forward to reading all the comments. I was surprised that even someone at 6'7 and 280 lb is still a fan of the unassuming Nighthawk 750. I'm only 5'4 but weigh 200 in my gear, riding street bikes since 1975; many many bikes have come and gone. My 2002 Nighthawk 750 with 53K miles is on my keeper list. And I have well over two dozen bikes. I'm slowly working on getting it down to a dozen. My survivalist two bikes would be my TW200 and my CB750 Nighthawk. I would add to the list in the following order: #3 my SV650 sporty bike. #4 my DR650 "Adventure" bike. #5 my VN750 Vulcan cruiser. After that, it's tough, hard to part with: CT110 Trail, 650SC NH, VS800, Hornet 919, and 1200 Bandit. No track bikes for me. Other bikes that I'd hate to let go: XT225, V65 SABRE, 3rd gen Magna 750, Triumphs, and an F650 Dakar. Honorable mentions go to BMW Boxer twins, the Bonneville line, and standard Moto Guzzis. I say all this only to give examples of keepers I discovered along the way, and to honor the 1993-2003 Honda Nighthawk CB750 by comparison. When I consider ALL factors: rider, cost, comfort, reliability, performance, mods, and so on and so on... (except off road) the NH 750 is hard to beat.

      That's my favourite part of making these videos tbh, the comments! Don't get me wrong, it's not the most spacious bike I've ever ridden but it's perfectly fine once you're slightly flexible! :) That is a fine collection! When you say no track bikes do you mean you'd never ride on track or just no track specific bikes? A V65 Sabre would be lovely! Honestly you don't have a bike I wouldn't like on that list :P The Nighthawk is honestly brilliant, just a great bike. Nothing fancy, just solid and fun. I agree! I wouldn't take it offroad either though :P

      @@TheGorillaBiker The NC750X is def not a pretty bike, or a bike, or pretty, or something I'd want... I am sure it serves a purpose... but a simple to work on bike, no rider aids or TFT, easy to service and honest to ride... There isn't anything like that anymore since the mandatory inclusion of ABS and TC.
      I'm sure the manufacturers have created this problem too, I'd love for example a Speed Triple with the looks and power and handling of the current one, but with no toys, no TC/ABS/TFT... but we'll never get a bike like that again nowadays!

      @TheGorillaBiker  Před rokem +2

      Exactly man. The nc750x is by all accounts a good bike and all but just not something I'd ever want ever. Ever.
      I think only abs is mandatory isn't it? They have definitely done it to themselves but they could definitely make something that's as barebones as can be and simple to service. Stop being greed and just make something people can afford and keep going themselves!!!

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones Před rokem

      Ahh yes, soz... TC not mandatory, just ABS. Don't get me wrong, I think both are a good thing if wanted, but it'd be interesting to see who would pay for it if given the choice with a realistic cost saving by not having the technology.
      I know you are a carb man, but FI is very reliable, so I am fine with having that over carbs, but it'd be nice to see a comeback of mechanical speedos and rev counters, and even more so having speedos driven off the front wheel, so we can mess agound with gearing etc without needing a speedohealer etc.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  Před rokem

      Oh absolutely agreed both are good things! But the likes of TC especially I'd be interested how many would choose to pay for it, especially for lower powered commuters and such like this bike :)
      I like carbs, but FI all the way man, FI is much better for a bike imo......just a lot less issues with weather changes etc!
      100%!!!!! Of the front or rear wheel like on the Falco is ideal. Why change something that works and causes no issues and is cheap to replace if it breaks :'(

But she's also about your height and is fine with the weight so far. So if it's what you want and you'll let yourself have time to learn the bike carefully and with care, I'd personally go for it. At the end of the day only you can say would you be comfortable with the weight. It'd be a bike you could have forever. I rode it to work today :)

    GBiker-- I hope you'll reconsider recommending a 75 hp, 470 lb. (dry weight), 120 mph, 30.5 in. seat height motorcycle as a "beginner bike". Even professional rider training programs here (New England, USA) use 250cc, 20 hp models - with seats no higher than 28 in. off the ground. Training is NEVER done on public roads.
    You're tall. Long legs. Typical guy is 5'8"-5'9", 160 lbs. He can't even get both feet down from a 30.5 in. seat. As an actual beginner on a 750 Nighthawk, he'll drop the bike at least three time$ before he can manage it well enough to hit a parked car or tree, as he attempts to round a first-time curve @ 30 mph. Given that, what about a 5'5", 120 lb. female "beginner"?
    Good channel with good vids. But, in this case, bad advice (imo).

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  Před 7 měsíci +1

      My wife is 5'6 and 130lbs. She's done just fine on it riding sensibly and having someone with her at all times. I never said it was the best beginner bike, but I'd had a lot of questions on it as an affordable option, which it is. It's also a great bike to learn to work on bikes as it's so easy to access everything.
      My wife also hasn't dropped it yet and finds it comfortable and relatively easy to handle., heavy for sure but not unmanageable, she can also reach the ground as displayed in other videos.
      Would I prefer to have her on a Ninja 400 brand new with abs etc etc?? Yes, of course, but most people don't have those options.
      I do completely understand your points though, is it the ideal beginner bike? No. However would it work for someone who has a sensible head on their shoulders and doesn't go too fast too soon? Yes. In other videos I have also pointed out I refused to ride a bike with my wife until she had taken the local 3 day course given by professionals on a smaller bike to find her feet. Sadly I can't force everyone to watch every video, but I also can't repeat everything I have previously said on a subject in every video. Anyway, I appreciate the comment.

    I found one of these for a good price nearby. Am i crazy for thinking about getting this as my first bike?

      Nope! I personally think it'd make a very good first bike for most!

    I personally would not recommend this bike for long trips i.e highway riding. The bike is not very smooth when she's rung out. You get quite a bit of vibration in the seat and the bars when she's up there in the rpm range. As far as a daily commuter, she's excellent. The bar, peg, seat relation is so very very good. It feels like a big dirt bike. Perfect riding position for an old guy like myself. I get compliments often. It is a stylish bike with legendary Japanese quality.

      I've actually done a video on a trip I took on it, it was 500 miles round trip! I didn't think it was that bad at all tbh, definitely didn't notice any major vibrations and most of it was highway, and that said I am too big for it really.

      @@TheGorillaBiker I might just be sensitive to it. Dang Honda for not making it a 6 speed :) Great bike though.

    • @TheGorillaBiker

      That's the one minor downside is the 6 speed for sure!!!
      I have been known not to feel vibrations that others have often felt on bikes to be fair.

      I disagree. Took it all over Mexico with side aluminum cases and did awesome. Smooth and reliable. Needed a wind shield though. Much more comfortable and better seating position than an 1150 Beemer.

      I can't tell you whether you should or shouldn't, you've to decide that. I think they make a manageable and fun first bike.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  Před rokem

      If you can still source the engine bars for it I'd recommend those for slow speed tip overs. High speed stuff nothing really helps too much on a naked bike. So just aim not to do that.
