- Gordon the big blue engine is sent to the works for his 10 yearly overhaul. In the process, The Fat Controller gives Gordon a few improvements to enhance his performance. But quickly, it all begins to go wrong for poor Gordon.
Gordon with smoke deflectors? That's definitely quite an improvement, whether Gordon likes it or not. One part that surprised me was the part that showed George protesting against railways on the level crossing. I do feel sorry for Gordon for the accident, but it was gratifying to see what happened to George. Serves him right for hating railways.
George ought to be turned into a stationary boiler for his behavior.
100% true 😂
lost my sides at the "flying fat face" line, well done d12 well done.
It seems fitting that, on the day of Wilbert Awdrys death, such an Awdry like story came up! It was brilliant, and I think even the Reverend would agree. It got the joke, the railway realism, and the moral of the Railway Series in it, and I think if he or Christopher ever did another story with Gordon in it, they'd probably would've done such a story as well
Thank you very much. That really is an extremely kind thing to say. I'm glad you enjoyed it and recognized everything I wanted to achieve in it :)
Can you do more thomas and friends series please.
dcg12b, no, thank you for making such a great episode. You always give 100%, both at producing, narrating and writing these stories. I was really delighted to see Gordon in a (partly) new form, and being from Germany, I thought it was very nice to see Gordon wearing 'our' type of smoke deflectors.
gingercat65 seems out of place for you to add that to a previously perfect thread. Why didn't you just post that as a regular comment? Also, why write a book on it when we already have the series here on CZcams?
gingercat65 huh took you long enough. And I was just replying with some criticism.
Really well thought out. It was a lovely idea for Gordon not to get the deflectors when he first visited the works as it's more realistic when people don't get it right the first time since there can be initial teething troubles to correct so to speak. When Gordon did get them I liked the overall impact they had on Gordon; not only keeping steam away from the cab but Gordon's vision too. It is of course common enough for engines to have smoke deflectors but it is just not something Gordon is used to which was a nice touch. Inevitably I can't help but compare this to "Bust my buffers!" but this was vastly superior as Gordon had a lot more to worry about than his image and besides George probably wouldn't be as quick to block a crossing anytime soon now that a train has actually hit him.
Suicidal steamroller, hahahahaa xD
Quite the interesting episode here, and definetly the first one ever in Thomas media to ever revolve around smoke deflectors. Liked how Gordon doesn't get them removed at the end, keeping them for an indefinate period.
You write the most original stories! This has to be one of my favourite fan written episodes out there, and I like how it's filmed with actual model trains.
Wow David! This story about Gordon is spectacular! I really enjoyed it and seeing Gordon fitted with smoke defectors is really interesting! I thought the life lessons about not getting what you want all the time and being patient was very inspiring! Awesome job mate!
I like this look of Gordon, just shorten the diameter of his smoke-box and he'll look like a real A3. Nice to see another upload. Keep up the good work
Cheers
Avi
I've always wanted to see him with deflectors, creative storyline!
(Chuckling) Looks like Gordon didn't think about the downsides before he went off for overhaul.
Thomas and his friends have the same sheds as the friends of Jimmy the Jinty. How lovely your Thomas stories are s well as the rather darker stories of your own character Jimmy the Jinty.
I love how Donald backed up before the crash XD
As soon as I heard about the soft smoke, I immediately thought smoke deflectors but not German smoke deflectors, I never managed a booming laugh before but when I saw them I could
all in all a pretty good job of adding them on
Such a unique episode David, I love the concept of Gordon having smoke deflectors and feeling miserable lol. Its a great ep mate! :D
Cool, funny, and surprising at the same time.
Nice job on Gordon's smoke deflectors. They make him rather fancier than usual, whether he knows it or not. While it would've been nice if Bill and Ben did the teasing instead, Donald and Douglas were a welcome presence. Who knows? Maybe the cheeky twins can play tricks on him before he's due for another overhaul.
Also, don't you think you should've added Gordon's angry face as well as his bug-eyed expression for the crash? Would've been even more priceless.
Once more, you need to work on timing. Same goes for ShunterProductions.
That's the truth sir, "We can't have it our own way".
I'm SO glad that you are active now. Its a dream come true. Keep up the great work!
11:40 Donald was like: oh s**t oh s**t oh s**t! xD
Oh come on, having smoke deflectors, doesn’t mean of teasing, and Gordon looks great with them
Who would've thought this up! Lovely episode with a fantastic story!
I thought we would have to wait another week or so after seeing the preview images on DA XD really enjoyed this one mate! with the jokes and references to both past Thomas episodes (name wise) and the Flying Scotsman herself (not even Scottish!) love that line haha
Your stories really have the classic vibe to them my friend and as I've said time and time again its as though Awdry has written them himself.
I gotta say my favourite parts were Gordon not seeing it was duck and then Gorge sounding like a typical motorist XD, all in all mate fantastic writing, fantastic editing and an all round worth looking forward to!
XD Loved this episode! The Scottish Twins jokes on those dorky looking smoke deflectors made me laugh out loud :D
3:31 Well Gordon, the others are jealous!
3:44 Henry be like "Improvements? My new shape is much better improvement than you'll ever have! Because I am now a much better engine!"
It's not everyday someone does a story where Gordon has to wear smoke deflectors. Poor him, and we can relate to him when it comes to one thing we didn't like even though we have to put up with it. Also, George's role is both funny and great. Hopefully we might get an episode where Gordon has his deflectors taken off (though I'm not sure wether or not it might happen).
well i like him like that
I actually think the smoke deflectors look nice on gordon
The scots roasting Gordon and his smoke deflectors was hilarious. Lmfao.😂😂😂
once again mate, great work 😊👍
Thanks mate, glad you liked it. I'm surprised nobody else has done this before. (If they have no one tell me) haha 😂
Indeed :) I think you would have been the first to think of giving Gordon smoke deflectors :). As Donald and Douglas say "If it's good enough for Scotsman, it's good enough for Gordon"
ShunterProductions I've thought of doing something like this, in a Great Race rewrite :P
I'm not sure if the ERS teams have done it or not :) also I have sent you an inbox
Amazing Work! So Glad Your Back!
Henry Says Fatface Is He Referencing Gordon Takes A Dip
And Donald And Douglas Reference Dumbo
I laughed when they said that and Dumbo is my number 1 disney film btw
Good job, man. Can't wait to see the next episode of Jimmy the Jinty.
Gordon: yes well your not related to Flying Scotsman so shut up
Engine Blastpipe arrangements have always been a tricky subject, whether they be a new engine, or retrofitting an old one, quite a bit of teething troubles tend to occur. Sometimes even engines of the same class react differently to new parts, I forget, how many cylinders does Gordon have? Generally the more parts, the more temperamental...
Nice work. When could flying Scotsman see Gordon like this?
Gordon “yes well your not related to Scotsman so shut me”
Me “A. Your not even the same type as engine as Flying Scotsman, and B. You said that soo smoothly it’s like you planned it 😜
@dcg12b: Have you ever considered doing a crossover between the Jinty engines and the Sodor engines?
James: but your ego wont inproved
Me: James are you into sex
That music playing from 0:40 to 1:21, what's it called?
Dragon Zilla The Traveling Theme by Sudrian Afro
Nice.
I notice the fat controller thanks Gordon for "ten years of sterling service" at the beginning. Does this mean the story takes place in the 20th century?
elirosen1391 Probably so. however i don't know.
Whats the Theme at 0:40?
If you'd had just given him lms or southern style deflectors it would be fine.
Like a rebuilt royal scot

Some Steam Engines Have Smoke Deflectors And Some Steam Engines Don't Have Smoke Deflectors.
234th like
HA! Now Thomas has more of an excuse when should he mistaken Gordon for Frieda from THE GREAT RACE!
To be honest, Gordon really does look like a new engine with those smoke deflectors. Excellent work, and very good timing considering today's anniversary!
Another brilliant episode mate well done, i laughed when i saw Gordon's external "improvements". Can't wait for more. Stephen :)
Glad you like it. Gordon will be wearing the smoke deflectors for a while to give the story longevity so expect to see more of it in the future :)
does this mean that gordon might have a reunion with his brother, flying scotsman since he too has smoke deflectors.
@@dcg12bHow did you even manage to fit Gordon with smoke deflectors, anyway?
Ha! I don't think I've seen Gordon with smoke deflectors before, so this was a very unique idea. Brothers alike!
Another super episode with amazing narration
This is so perfectly executed. Well done, I hope they give Gordon those deflectors in real-life.
I love the way you have George in this story
Great show DCG! I don't think I've ever seen an episode that made a viewer feel more sorry for Gordon by bringing out his inner vulnerability.
Im so *HAPPY* your back the feels are real.....
Again really good episode , can't wait to see more
yes it's back and nice reference to fling scotsman's overhaul
Gordon could have the smoke deflectors the Thompson a2s and the a3 Humourist originally had. They are smaller, on the top of the smokebox rather than to the sides and don't obstruct the view of the engine. Just a suggestion :-)
Very good suggestion. One that I did think of. But I couldn't find any ready made ones (since I'm a useless modeler) and it didn't provide much of a climax to the story. So I chose the German style ones instead. :)
Been a while hasn't it? Good to see you back in action mate :)
fantastic episode mate!
This was fantastic. I really enjoyed it :).
Smashing episode as ever. I'm still debating as to whether or not I like Gordon's smoke deflectors. I was also wondering if you will produce another episode involving Gordon talking to Murdoch about the advantages of smoke deflectors. But again, great episode.
a well writen script lovely job
Well done as always my friend. I am sorry for bothering you about voicing Edward in my series before especially after reading your DA posts. I hope everything calms down and that you have more time to do the things you love.
Take care.
a wonderful episode DC :)
Great job mate!
What is the song after the intro I kinda like it
very well done mate. :)
I watched this the day you released it and forgot to comment! I thought this was very clever. Funny enough, I think Gordon looks very smart with the smoke deflectors. You utilized them well in the story, and I hope to see them present the next time you release a Thomas and Friends episode ;) Wonderful job, my friend!
Another excellent episode, dcg12b. I only wish these were uploaded more often. But I must ask, why did we have to wait for so long for the previous Jimmy the Jinty episode (out of curiosity)?
He has a lot on his plate as it is. Life is the simple answer. I only know this from being subscribed to him on Deviant Art as well.
Thank you @Plokman040 that is very much the case. I highly appreciate your understanding :)
Your welcome my friend. Anytime.
Fair enough. It's just I love both your Thomas stories and Jimmy the Jinty series so much!
They could just make them retractable like Scotsman's. ;P
Haha God no! xD
First George caused Gordon to smash into Duck's tail truck at a station and now Gordon smashes into George at a Level Crossing. What will Gordon run into next?
dcb12b where did you get rob the 7F locomotive just wondering
How long does the average overhaul on the north western railway take?
Will George ever learn?
From the side he really does look like a German engine! He'd just need a black paint job with red stripes and red wheels to match to fit the part. It honestly doesn't look that bad on him, actually.
