Pacifica Coastal Erosion 9-11-21
Parts of the Bay Area, officials have already retreated from some parts of the coast, removing homes from cliffs that have eroded and areas that have flooded. San Francisco is taking steps to move the Great Highway away from Ocean Beach because erosion is eating away the earth beneath it. Houses and apartments in Pacifica, south of the city, were declared uninhabitable as cliffs that supported them gave way to erosion.
Thank you for this up-to-date look at the coastal erosion. We have all been trained to believe that California would disappear into the ocean when the next “big one” occurs. Who knew it would happen well before a “monster earthquake” by the constant barrage of just one wave at a time? It is Patriot’s Day. We will not forget. ❤️
that part of California will move north in future earthquakes.

You do a great job of documenting the erosion progress. The landmarks are a great progress meter for what is going on. It seems this year there was minimal erosion, but there was still some.

What a cold, lonely looking beach; so depressing to look at. I think I'm mostly influenced by the erosion that took those apartment buildings. Thank you for recording this, though. Edit: I just watched your other erosion update, and the ocean looks less foreboding, when the sun is shining shining on it. 😀

We were never supposed to build on the coast lines. I don’t understand why anyone would live on the coast. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.
Oh wow the cliff continued to erode well after they tore down those apartments. They would have definitely crashed into the sea had it still stood there. Great shots!

Good idea if you are looking to spend millions on a home only to have it end up in the ocean. You probably couldn’t get a builder worth his business to put s house there. Not unless he’s a scam artist!
