Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started âtravel hackingâ & finally decided we wanted to go travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling, and we didnât want to stop after just one year! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries and then all 7 continents (check out our documentary here: âą 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY , we had no plans to slow down, until 2020 decided to force us to ;) which is when we bought a converted Sprinter van to start exploring our own country for the first time. #Vanlife was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. đđ„đ

Iâve really been loving your recent direction of people oriented episodes, meeting locals of different places. I think you guys have really hit on something with this format.

What I'm loving about these 50 State vlogs is that you're really getting to show the real unfiltered USA! I think one of the main misconceptions about our country to those who are not from here is that it's pretty much the same from coast to coast. The people are the same, the food the same, etc. But nothing could be further from the truth! We are a country of regions, and each one has it's own unique personality. To me, that's one of the best things about the US. Maryland is the state immediately below mine and I love seeing it through your eyes. â€ïž
#truth!!! And I love it. Most people who have never traveled to smaller towns or like people donât know this. I appreciate small towns and the people are like family even though we are all strangers.
Yea Iâm from MD and Iâve never heard of this place.
As a Canadian I seeing the USA vlogs just show the humanity in all beings amidst some pretty trying times. I see the hope.

I've lived in Maryland all my life and this was the best 48 hours I've seen. I parrot Dark Ruins in that the chemistry they have with each other, and ppl they meet, makes this channel. I wish I could give multiple likes! Just discovered your channel; smashing the subscribe button now.
So glad you visited Maryland! 48 hours isn't enough to enjoy its true beauty. And we are VERY proud of our flag!
Hi đ
I really enjoyed this episode. Laughed so much and was definitely needed.

Happy to hear that đ„°â€ïž
Iâm in Washington Dc
Right now
how are you doing
I love how into the culture of every state your getting, it's like a sneak peak if how some people live in different states. It's amazing!
As a born-and-raised shorebilly from the Maryland eastern shore, you did a great job showcasing my home state! Now I'm living out west so watching this gave me all the feels, it was a perfect tour of my old stomping grounds. I can't wait to go back and get thrashers fries, dumsers ice cream, and ma's crab cakes!!
I love how you decided to travel to each state. It's so wholesome seeing the locals, the food, and the new friends you make. THIS is what travelling is all about....not just national parks ;)
You can tell when someone is out of state if you ask what flag that is. Marylanders are very proud of our flag (because itâs the best) itâs on everything đ€Ł
100%. I was almost offended as a native Marylander ha. Even people not from there love the flag.
One of the things that makes this travel series so enjoyable is that you are truly approaching this from a journalistic point of view. I love the fact that you are able to tap into these authentic experiences with the locals. I think the greatest benefit of traveling is that you never return home the same as before you left.
This was a perfect 48 hours in Maryland. This video captured so well what makes Maryland unique.
Yep!
Didnât even touch the surface of anything of maryland aside from like the beaches and crabs. 90% of people here have never even heard of smith island Iâm sure. Thereâs waaaaay more to this state then crabbing in the middle of nowhere maryland.
@@sonytantoni2372 I lived in Maryland near DC my whole life and never even heard of that beach areađ

I am from Western Maryland. I grew up and have lived in the Quad state area of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West "By God"- (West Virginia) almost my whole life. Welcome to Maryland! I promise you one thing Kara you will never be able to eat another crab cake in your life with the comparison that you now have :-) hope you all had fun in my neck of the woodsđâ„ïž
It's so true. They are the greatest crab cakes I'm a brain tumor survivor and I had me surgery at John Hopkins the day before my surgery my husband brought me my favorite things to eat at our hotel room because we didn't know was the future held. Yes. Iâm surprised Kara & Nate didnât know about that book, or movie. It was the first thing I thought of when they said they were going to an island in Maryland.
Dude I read it too and the sequel stormy misty' foal. So enjoyed seeing video of this unique place!
That book is actually based on Chincoteague island in VA / Chincoteague Wildlife refuge which is the Virginia side of Assateague.

Seeing these smaller, out of the way places has been so much fun. This episode cracked me up so many times with Ma. đđ
Ma is so funny oh my god. âYou made that right upâ đđ
I was watching another #vanlife channel today and was thinking about why Kara and Nate are so much more captivating than other travel channels and I realized itâs because all their videos tell a story. Itâs not just a vlog (which is fine and I still enjoy, but I digress). So incredibly talented! Thanks for doing what you do, guys. I truly look forward to your stories every week :)
I loved watching this! I lived in Maryland for 3 years, when I was stationed there, in the Army, many years ago. Maryland, and itâs people are wonderful. I really appreciated you showcasing the special things about Maryland. I am originally from Texas, live in Florida and just found your channel. I, like you, decided I wanted to travel and see the world before I settled down. Travel vlogging was not an option 30 years ago, so I joined the Army right after law school. Within 6 months of graduation I was living in Germany. Traveled all over Europe , Asia and North Africa during that time. Still go back once in a while. The next phase of my career, after I left active duty, has taken me all over Central and South America. I am still traveling monthly to that part of the world for at least a week, with an opportunity to live in Mexico City for two years. I love watching you because I feel like Iâm traveling to some of my favorite places in the world I have traveled. Now because of you two, I have new places on my bucket list, starting with North Pole and AntĂĄrtica. I feel like Iâm watching my kids following in my footsteps. Look forward to your next adventures!!!!
The crab cakes and the people are what I miss the most about living in Crisfield. I think Kara and Nate really captured the spirit of that area perfectly.
Nate crying laughing in the background of cooking that cake đđđđ
I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and Jamieâs dad sounds like my grandpa and uncle and it makes me homesick. Also, love Assateague and Thrasherâs fries!
Yes. Thrasher's has the best fries.
The English love chips and vinegar and so do lots of the older kiwis and Kangasđ
I CANNOT get over Nateâs nature documentary voice đđđ that was awesome. I laughed soooooooo hard, đ âAnd heâs majestically....ignoring usâ

Their accent is the same as folks from the Outer Banks in NC. Itâs a dialect called âBrogueâ and originated from Irish settlers who came over hundreds of years ago.

General comment - It's amazing how Covid has made us all appreciate the wonders of our own country rather than flying somewhere else. I live in Australia and the beauty and diversity here is incredible. I'm enjoying the 50 state trek from Kara & Nate. All the uniqueness is brilliant
Hi đ
Finally! Maryland! Crab cakes are so good. You should come more to the western Maryland also. It's mountains and all that. We have a very diverse state.
Central and Western MD all have very distinct feels compared to the eastern shore

Iâm a From Maryland also and it annoyed me so much that she kept saying horses when theyâre actually wild ponies get it right or donât do it at all
My late father was born and raised in Cambridge where I still have many family members. AsA child I always loved visiting my eastern shore family during summer vacations.
Assateague in mid summer is the experience of getting eaten alive. Itâs hell

I second this!
I agree they seem perfect together and they make me smile every video. And Iâm not saying they are not perfect but almost nothing is so in this world, their are up and downs to everything. I assume that they have their fare share of arguments and struggles but why would they put private things like that on the internet ? After watching their videos for the last few months, esp the van life ones,, I finally decided to watch from the beginning. If you find a video from Feb 14, 2016 they answer fan questions. It's great that they are high school sweethearts.
It makes me SO happy to see people exploring where I grew up!!!
I love how Nate wakes up Kara itâs so sweet!
I'm so excited you came to Maryland and really went waist-deep into our culture of crabbing! People don't genuinely think of the Chesapeake Bay or the area surrounding it (usually just D.C.) so I'm glad you spent some time there and really got to talk with the locals!!!
I had no idea Smith Island existed. Iâve lived in Baltimore my whole life. Everything is so different outside of this place wow
the other side of the bridge is a diffrent story
I was born and raised in Baltimore City. After 1 semester at Dundalk Comm. College, I had it with city life and moved downee Ocean. Life has been so much simpler and wonderful. Cross the bay and take a right off of 50 or a left. So many places to visit at a slower pace.
Same!! I had no idea
Yeah I never knew it existed either I've been going to Ocean City for years (actually ever since I was in the womb)
I wish they wouldâve gone to Deep Creek. I think they wouldâve loved going there to the mountains.
I really love that they are allowing nature/wild life to remain as that and not being quick to tend to them. I feel like when we all attempt to lend a hand to animals in the wild we mess with how it naturally adapts to its actual life.
Like for examples getting in the middle of prey and the predator
ok, this was so precious to watch. the people there are so sweet

When Kara said âHe is SO CUTEâ I thought she was talking about the DEAD DOLPHINS HEAD đđđđđđđ
WHEW! I didn't think my first comment on your channel would be so emotional.
I'm currently having a very bad mental health day. Lowest in a while. So I came to YT to distract myself. As has become the norm recently, your channel is my go-to. I watched Kara's 30th Castle Birthday and this video popped right after. I instantly busted out in tears.
A little history- I lost my Dad in 2010 to cancer. He was my hero and my twin in all things. I miss him every single day. His Mom and Dad, with their 9 kids were born and raised in Crisfield, MD. I literally spent my entire childhood being regaled by countless stories of Crisfield culture, history, and cuisine from my Mom-Mom, Pop-Pop, aunts, and uncles. At 8 years old, my parents gave my sister and I the option of Disney World or Crisfield. I emphatically chose Crisfield, something my little sister was extremely salty about for a long time. đ
All that being said, this video popping up was absolutely like all of those family members who've past away, saying "We're here. You're not alone. We love you".
So thank you so much for all you do. Your content is wonderful. Your light and depth of love shines through. â€

Exactly people over look Delmarva and when I saw the board walk I was like they actually care about where they go
My boyfriend lives in Delmarva (Seaford, Delaware), so that's really the only part of Maryland/Delaware that I've had the good fortune of spending time. Love Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City. Still would like to see Baltimore outside of the airport, which is actually in Linthicium (I may be writing that wrong). Such a historic city. With growing up in Colorado and living in California for over 30 years, it's fun to see these places that have so much more history. Yes, Colorado and California have history, but the east coast has that history dating back to the 1700s. Also, such a different beach culture between California and Maryland/Delaware. And Thrashers fries are pretty awesome. Dolles and Grottos Pizzeria are pretty great, too, if you're in the area. And don't forget Candy Kitchen!
I was honestly hoping they would try scrapple on camera while they were here
