    I have become convinced that once our Black brothers and sisters finally had their rights acknowledge and given equal status with White people, all other minorities would be given the same. Every time Black rights and lives are brought up, people begin speaking of the other minorities treated badly, which dilutes the unique bigotry that has been foisted on the descendants of Africa, by the descendants of Europe.

    I listened to the audiobook and it was so good I had to buy it! PLEASE READ THIS BOOK! only thing I don't like, which comes towards the end is the falsehood that anybody can be racist which is a miseducation of how racism has played out from 1607 to the 1964 passage of the civil rights act which then gave white men who were in charge, and still are mostly in charge in our government, the ability to write into law what racism is going forward. Racism is discriminating based on "race" (skin color) by means of legal authority or constitutional control, as Robin Diangelo explains perfectly in her book "White Fragility" in Chp 2 & 3.
    As Stokey Carmichael said many years ago "If a white man wants to lynch me that's his problem. If a white man has the power to lynch me thats MY problem. Racism is not a question of attitude, it is a question of power"

      White Fragility imparted nothing but suspicion and counterproductive marching orders. What solution does her book offer? If all white people are born white supremacists and, no matter what they do, will always be white supremacists, what's the point? Where's the hope? She affirms victimhood but offers nothing substantive for the future. She's most pointless virtue signaller of the millenium.
      You're right, racism is discriminating based on race or skin color. MLK said to consider people for their merit and character, not skin color. But woke zealots want skin color to be the first consideration and final deciding factor. MLK preached transcendent color blindness, but some try to convolute his beautiful message.
      How helpful is a book _(like Boykin's or DiAngelo's)_ that makes unprovable subjective assertions while not addressing tangible, solvable systemic racism _(the black/white wealth and education gap)_ caused and sustained by policy. Segregated neighborhoods are on the rise in cities, and segregated people don't stand a chance. We must get down to the difficult business of changing people's minds, so laws are changed _(instead of virtue signalling to other woke zealots)._ Burdening today's innocent young people with yesterday's crimes will never enlist them to join in the fight to end systemic racism. Everyone should be taught the truth about black history in America, but not today's twisted subjective takes like those of Robin DiAngelo.

      What does gender pay gap have to do with comparing white and black women’s bodies and health? You are confusing different issues. But Whoopi is wrong black women are less likely to be screened for preventative care, more likely to have cardiovascular disease and diabetes, have premature birth, and pain not treated properly. Just to name a few. But to be noted if you look at Eastern Kentucky all these things are true of white women as well.

If you decide today to become a lawyer, get a PhD in the humanities (classics, philosophy, English, history etc), if your job is in the upper echelons of the political world, you will experience shocking levels of racism (especially systemic) everyday. It's still very significant sadly, but it often depends where you are and what you're doing, and if you're perceived as a "threat".

  • @Maliceless100
    @Maliceless100 Před 3 měsíci

    The main culprit of American racism is the black/white wealth and education gap caused by old local ordinances that zone and segregate. Segregation in schools has been illegal for decades, but neighborhood segregation in Cities is on the rise again. You don't stand a chance if you're segregated _(this is systemic racism)._ There are tangible solutions that require changing minds and laws _(but it's tough to get single family home neighborhoods to allow multi-family housing in, because it affects property values)._ This catch 22 is the ugly truth, but it's an uphill battle many are prepared to join. I read some of Boykins' assertions and not convinced they'll compel anyone to act on the real solutions. VIEW guest *Coleman Hughes* from a few weeks ago is definitely the voice of the future.
    If you can understand the true nature of virtue signalling, you see how counterproductive it is, same goes with the woke religion _(where every consideration starts with race, and every decision is based in race)._ MLK said to consider people for their merit and character, but today's woke zealots are only concerned with skin color.

    • @NycGuy7
      @NycGuy7 Před 3 měsíci

      Woke actually means awareness. Right wingers falsely use the term to describe anything they don't like. Coleman's arguments, much like yours, are flawed because they're rooted in false assumptions. Both race and class matter in America. Being upper class does not shield a Black person from racism and its effects. Ignoring race and exclusively focusing on class does not address racism or racial disparities.
