VRE hopscotch on the CSX RF&P Sub from Washington DC to Spotsylvania. 5/17/24

- We explore the CSX RF&P Subdivision in spots between Washington DC to Spotsylvania in a most unusual way. I traveled on a series of VRE trains progressing between those points. I visited Alexandria, Woodbridge, Quantico, Fredericksburg, and Spotsylvania. In my sojourn I saw numerous CSX, Amtrak, and VRE trains including the Auto Train and the CSX Track Geometry train with a rare ex-Marc GP40WH-2.  All in all I had a fun time taking this back door train journey out of Washington DC.

Nice bonus catch with the Geometry Train. I've never been a fan of gallery cars, but the VRE ones are pretty nice. They're the exception.

Nj Transit , Septa, and Patco can take some notes on how to show some pride and keep their cars/engines clean like VRE !!! I've never seen anything look that good up this way!. Way to go VRE !!

I see that you included a note about CSX 9969. Once MARC retired that class of locomotive, CSX acquired that one to pull its geometry train. My guess is that, as a former passenger locomotive, it has head end power installed and that the geometry car needs it.
I literally just saw that CSX locomotive pulling passenger cars a week or two ago here in Washington.D.C. for the first time! It was much longer than that one, though, if I remember correctly. I was shocked bcuz I never knew CSX had any passenger cars. I wonder what for, who for, and where do they go?

Yes it is just random consists depending on amount of commuters.
How were you able to get off at Quantico station? According to Amtrak military officials will check IDs of anyone looking to get off there
Nobody approached me at all. I’m sure there are commuters who ride the train and get off there. I saw the signs about the marine base, but I never entered that territory.
Nice. Those MPI Locos look vaguely European! I don’t remember - do they provide HEP? Nice geo train catch behind an upgunned GEEP. Nice. Those METRO Kawasakis sound a lot better than their whiney elders. Question: why do AMTRAK trains running deep into VA or even NC carry the Northeast Regional marque on the cafe cars?
They use them anywhere they can use them even beyond the north east corridor. Yes, the MP36’s do have HEP
