- The Queens College Guitar Ensemble plays Daniel Zapata's "El Mestizaje: Cambio del Siglo XVI" with the help of Queens College percussionists.
"El Mestizaje: Cambio del Siglo XVI" is a folk suite inspired by the different ethnicities that came together over the centuries to form the Latin American identity. Each movement is not only inspired by different ethnicities involved in Ibero-American history, but features percussion and a chordophone that represents each culture. The Sephardic Jews and Moors are represented by the oud, the Spaniards by the Baroque Guitar, the Romani by the Flamenco Guitar, the Indigenous Americans by the Charango and the African slaves by the Tres Cubano.
