I'm from Mississippi and looking at her and hearing her, well...she makes me happy. What a naturally sensuous, good-looking woman. And that smoky voice!
The mind was blown. I fondly remember, as a wannabe guitarist, being fascinated by Donovan's performance of "Long A-Growing". I had forgotten that it was on Bobbie's show, which was compulsive viewing back in the day.
Great Duo! I love it when something old is new again. Bobbie sings like a dream & Donovan's so intense. What a wonderful spin on one of my all time favorites. Long live the Groovy Guru!!!!
My beloved grandad died a month before First the is a mountain was recorded.Really messed with my head. But I remember that song with its zen like words was inexplicably comforting.I still dont know why✌️
I've bought some of these episodes but they all turned out to be bootleg. Bobbie Gentry was such an amazing ,unique talent.. She wrote, produced and published her own recordings... and that perfect head of hair.. no extensions!
If you are in the UK you might like to know that BBC 4 are screening all 5 of the surviving Bobbie Gentry shows (3 from 1968, 2 from 1971) on Friday 3rd November 2023 from 9pm onwards.
She was the Kate Bush of her time. A unique artist who came out of nowhere, had a "weird" number one hit, and produced timeless music of great quality.
Sometimes I am critical of women, but Bobby Gentry has a wonderful, easy-going and positive personality. It is just a pleasure to watch and listen to her.
Wow, Donavan's song was brutal. I skipped around and thought for a second it was Al Stewart. Not one of his better efforts. Love Bobby, I think it was criminal we did not have this show in the states.
Three things. One: ridiculous how every song in the late 60's needed the obligatory Indian sitar. Thanks, George Harrison and the Beatles. Two: I really like that second song she sings. Anyone here know the title, and what Bobbie Gentry album it's on? Is it called "Good Morning?" Third: just realized how Donovan and the singer of Belle & Sebastian have the same singing voice
I like the sitar in her song. It didn't take away or reduce the song. It was fine. IMHO I wish they would burn every oboe so that I never have to hear that godawful sound.
What is the name the first song starting at 1:14 ? "Morning glory" starts at 3:58, a brilliant song. I'm up to some "morning glory" with Bobbie :) Donovan is starting at 7:27 with a grrreat folk song And a jolly "encore" at 11:12
Gijs Schubert: The song at 1:14 is called Peaceful and was written by American songwriter Kenny Rankin in 1967. It was a Top 10 hit in the UK for Georgie Fame in 1969 and in the USA for Helen Reddy in 1972
The Musical Director on the show was John Cameron who made the arrangements for I presume one of the BBC orchestras; they had a lot of in-house talent in that era. He also produced Donovan's early releases, which is how the World goes round.
@@philt4346 The Wikipedia page for John Cameron is an interesting springboard off to other musicians, he had a hand in many hit records including from Hot Chocolate and as part of CCS, as well as scoring 'Kes' for Ken Loach. Later he was involved in the stage production of 'Les Miserables'. I have an 1969 Deram compilation called 'Wowie Zowie The World of Progressive Music' that includes a track called 'Go Away Come Back, Another Day' by the John Cameron Quartet, I Googled this and Discogs has Harold McNair down as responsible for flutes and saxophones. Perhaps Cameron also commissioned him for the Bobbie Gentry show?
A beautiful, ethereal and interesting artist.. I am totally bewitched by her. I was born about 25 years too late.
Loved her since the 60's!
God was she gorgeous! And the voice! Such a consummate talent.
The Perfect Woman!
She had such a wonderful smokey voice with that sweet southern accent.
She was a smoker,
I'm from Mississippi and looking at her and hearing her, well...she makes me happy. What a naturally sensuous, good-looking woman. And that smoky voice!
Beautiful voice and every thing else to go with it
I just learned about her and am so mesmerized, even shocked by her voice. Beautiful, beautiful voice
The breathy way she sings "...night..." in Mornin' Glory at 4.25m is, alone, enough for a lifelong love affair.
A priceless artifact and wonderful gift, for those who can appreciate it.
They BOTH had so much fun on that last song! ("First There is a Mountain")
The BBC filmed 18 of these full length programs with Bobbie, only 5 of those episodes survive.
There's a CD of soundtracks from these shows on the recently released Girl From Chickasaw County boxed set.
that is 5 we can watch the BBC did that to so many shows just thew them away
Bobby was brilliant.
Her beauty and voice is unique.God bless Miss Bobby Gentry..
What a rare gem. This video and Bobbie Gentry!
Bobbie Gentry and Donovan. My mind is blown!

We love Bobby Gentry..
On BBC tonight and no doubt on iPlayer
Smart, funny and incredibly good looking what more could a person want? oh, I forgot, and a great earner.👏👏👏
Amazing!! Please post more of Bobbie's BBC show. My mind is blown as well. incredible quality
What a great treat! Love the saucy Mississippi Delta opening.
Notice they just sing....soothingly....no belting it out abusing the vocal chords.
Oh how I wish we could see part 2 or more of these episodes!

Bobbie Gentry was brilliant , Kate bush is a nobody.
I see more of a parallel with Shania Twain than Kate Bush.
What a gorgeous hunk of Woman!
@@c.s.mcleod7383I agree. I'm not sure there's anyone comparable to Kate Bush- she's totally unique.
She wrote Fancy that Reba covered and is an amazing song. Also wrote Raindrops Keep Fallin on My Face.
She’s so beautiful you know I bet she has a beautiful heart!
Donavan levitch is the real soft voice in music history. At this time his album banagajhal just came out.
Leitch.
What a treasure. Thanks so much for posting!
Great stuff. Thank you very much for Bobbie & Donovan. Looking forward to part two...
Pure Gorgeous.
Oh yeah...the Perfect Woman!
Sometimes I am critical of women, but Bobby Gentry has a wonderful, easy-going and positive personality.
It is just a pleasure to watch and listen to her.
this flows like a dream - big love for this
And for her!
A star who really was one.
Peaceful!!!!! I thought Helen had the first recording. I was wrong. This is also delightful!!!
What a find!!!!!! Donovan and Bobbie Gentry!! oxoxo
Wow, Donavan's song was brutal. I skipped around and thought for a second it was Al Stewart. Not one of his better efforts. Love Bobby, I think it was criminal we did not have this show in the states.
Wow two of my faves together : ) Happy days
This is timeless❤
I was about 8 at the time so this may have been on too late in the UK for me to remember. Because I would have remembered something as great as this.
She sings Wedding Bell Blues my heart sinks 💕 my name is Bill .
Amazing voice, gorgeous body. Watching from London UK.
Wonderful!
This is amazing
The best advertising for tourism Mississippi ever had!
I liked that a lot. thanks!
Beautiful
Her too!
wow
WOW !!
Oh, Juanita!
Class act.
This is a real treasure. Will you be posting part 2...or anything else by Bobbie Gentry?

👍👍👍👍👍👍
thanks so much for posting! will you be posting the rest?
great thank you so much. I wonder if there is any way to get a copy of the British radio programme from last May when BBC did a documentary
She's great. From the phrasing to the lilt and the sparse drums and strings. I prefer her to the Beatles. Summer soundtrack this year.
Is this the show that had James Taylor as a guest? Is there any footage of him on the show?
Anyone know who the guy with blue jumper is ?? Full name
What is the name the first song starting at 1:14 ?
"Morning glory" starts at 3:58, a brilliant song. I'm up to some "morning glory" with Bobbie :)
Donovan is starting at 7:27 with a grrreat folk song

Mississippi Delta, the opening track on Ode to Billie Joe :)
Thank you Elizabeth! What a great artist she was......

Under-rated bobby gentry sings under-rated kenmy rankin.
Donovan would’ve just returned from India spending time with the Beatles
Is that flute player Zappa ?? Very much sounds like him

@@francismitchell2177 Thanks for warming the water up, found his track 'Troublemaker' is an earworm of old, album 'Off Centre' now on my want list.
AND SUE AND SUNNY?????
But man, that song Bobbie performs with Donovan sure is some silly crap!
or it is a zen-buddhist wisdom story
- or both
You need to understand the context. This was gold dust compared with most of the dreck that was on TV at the time.
