  • In this video, I'll show you a pretty cool way to use the Express LRS loan model feature paired with a trainer configuration on EdgeTX.

    This is some big brain stuff, I didn't even consider using Loan Model like this, but it is a great idea.

    I'm a newbe on ExpressLRS, i followed your live video of installing the module on the tx16s . I dont get why you have connected the reciver to the radio, do i need one reciver on the plane and one on the radio for doing this setup for student training? thank you, you are helping me a lot, if you remember during your live about ELRS you have read the first comment of a person that is Paolo a big friend of mine that passed away for a brain cancer and he was 60, im 22 and we shared this hobby and he decided to left me all his models, he was better than me in this word due to year of experience and for random case i have recognised his google profile image from your live video when you read his comment (i almost cried) but now i am happy to have found your amazing channel where i can learn a lot and fly my friend models! thank you, you are the best.

    Great idea John. I currently use the Aux2 and elrs but it has a different bind phrase than the rx in the plane so this is awesome as I will not have to change my Zorro's phrase each time I want to use it as a trainer. Thanks for sharing.
    John you might add this. -- your comment to a question below some place in the video if possible.
    "In these wireless setups there are always two connections:
    Connection 1: Master transmitter to model.
    Connection 2: Student transmitter to master receiver.
    This video demonstrates the linkage between the student transmitter and the master receiver. To fly, you would also install a receiver in the model, and bind it with the master transmitter. That receiver could be based on the MPM or the ELRS TX."

    That's a handy thing. Rather than a switch to toggle trainer though, you can set it up so that if the instructor makes any control input at all, they get control back from the student... so, hit a switch to give control to the student, then when they get into a bad situation, instructor just flies the plane and they have control back automatically. It's really good for instructors that maybe don't do it all that often, or for when students are getting better (instructors not all that engaged unless they get into really bad shape), saves them from having to remember to hit the switch in the middle of a bad situation.

      Yeah: czcams.com/video/030liiCDXYY/video.html
      I've also started putting the gyro in auto-level mode after giving it to the student, so if I do take control the plane just levels itself. Very handy.

    • @abates3747
      @abates3747 Před 3 měsíci

      @@RCVideoReviews, you could also just allow the auto-level switch to override the student... not take back control, just hit the switch for them. Certainly lots of fun ways to do things with this Tx firmware.

      The possibilities are endless should be the tagline for EdgeTX. You're touching on one of the difficulties in making videos for it. There are so many different ways to do things, I tend these days to focus on conceptual ideas. People are very creative and figure out all kinds of ways to get jobs done.

    Nice tutorial! I hope one day we'll be able to transfer models and settings wirelessly between radios, it would work nicely along with the ELRS 'loan model' feature.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Před rokem +2

      I was thinking the same exact thing. I'd love a "bump to transfer" on the radio.

    • @CapnBry
      @CapnBry Před rokem +1

      😅 I've thought this myself because I want to share quads with people all the time. It creates a major major problem if the radios aren't identical because all the switches are different, or a person would expect their arm somewhere else. It would also need to transfer not only the EdgeTX model but also replace the ELRS config on the TX module which could be a real jerk move. Hard to find a middle ground of convenience and unintended consequences.

      @malte9999 Před rokem

      @@CapnBrymaybe with channel naming in the RX and some wizardry in EdgeTX a solution can be found. With some standardised channel names, EdgeTX could have a mapping for RX channel name transmitter inputs that automagically works

    I have a simular setup for connecting students with Spektrum radios. Instead of a ELRS receiver connected to a uart/AUX port, I have Spektrum receiver (with sbus output) connected to DSC. And all my students binds to my Orange receiver which is sticked on the back of my radio.

  • @Arthur_C
    @Arthur_C Před rokem +1

    I don't get it.... Is the reciever (plugged in the master) there to enable the data transfer from slave to master (and do you have an other reciever bound which is in the plane)? Or is the connected receiver there to simulate an actual plane (and you just take power from the port of the master)?

    Thank you very much!! Would the following be possible ? real world example: I am an instructor with 3 students. I duplicate the trainer-model in the transmitter 3 times. Once for every student. Then for each of the trainer-setups the student does not have to return the model if I set and use receiver ID's ? Then I can select the same model but in a different model-memory for each student. The students do not return their loaned models so it is easier the next time on the field for them to start flying with me... That would really be nice..

  • @bitogre
    @bitogre Před rokem

    If you do not want to copy the model to the student radio, use "Sticks" instead of "Channels". You can still get to the additional channels as inputs "TRx" (where x is the channel number on the trainer port) but you have to add those input override to the master model. So, really, you either have to do the work on the master or on the student radio. For simple models that have 1 input per channel on the mix, using "channel" and copying to the student is probably easier. For complex models (V Tails, Elavon, Flaperon, ...) that have complex mixes, using "sticks" is probably easier.

    • @RCVideoReviews

      Thanks. Turns out I had the chance to work with two other pilots who wanted to buddybox and they both had ELRS. So this idea bubbled to the top and it worked fantastic. Initially I started to tell the students: "I'll have a binding phrase on my Rx of 'trainer', so you'll need to change the binding phrase on your tx to......wait....I have an idea...."
      It works really well. I do wish there was some way for the master to return the model from LUA because even though I KNEW we had to return the model from the student, we both packed up and forgot about it. The 3 x power cycle does work though.

    Podría lograr algo parecido con un receptor flysky ia-6B?.
    Me explico mejor, tengo un RadioMaster tx16s con el módulo multiprotocolo 4 in 1 y me gustaría enseñar a un amigo justo con esto de maestro/alumno y quería saber si en el mismo puerto que utilizaste conecto un receptor flysky ia-6B en SBUS y mi amigo se conecta a este receptor con su radio flysky i6x pues podría funcionar esta forma para lograr el modo maestro/alumno?

      IMHO this wireless method is 1000% better. I'm not tethered to the other radio. I can move, the student can move. And I don't need to worry about keeping compatible cables nearby. lol
