      Actually the movies were produced when the CGI was beginning to be a real complex subject, so a lot of movies trusted more the old handmade tricks and keep the CGI at the bare minimum (Harry Potter, PoC ...). Ironically that's why nowadays a lot of old movies seems so good comparing to the new one which are fully based on CGI.

    My favorite part is a small detail here, Jack and Barbosa both captaining the pearl together. I especially love that Jack doesn’t hesitate once he sees will and says “full covers!” And a second later Barbosa catches on to what Jack wants to do, so rather than stomping on his plans, repeats jacks order. Davy's original score is much more melancholy and dark that emphasizes a lot of the story of Davy Jones and his personality while the track he plays with Will as captain is much more powerful and hopeful, which emphasizes the kindness, resignation and Will's story until he got here, it's like the Davy Jones tale that worked

    To this day, seeing the Dutchman rise up out of the ocean like a damn ghost and completely clean is still one of the most incredible moments in a film for me. When I saw this in theaters, I genuinely thought that when the Dutchman came out of the ocean that it was over for the Pearl and the rest of the Pirates, because Becket just got back his strongest weapon, but when I saw the crew becoming human again, and Will captaining the ship with a massive scar along his chest, indicating his heart has replaced Jones's, I almost screamed in the theater with excitement. Now, I think we can all agree that Will's story arc was always going to move towards him becoming the new Davy Jones. His father was murdered by Barbosa, but given a second chance by Jones, and then when Will was imprisoned on the Dutchman, he swore to his father that he would kill Jones and free him. I don't think he ever really considered the consequences of killing Jones, but he was willing to take that risk to do what it took to free his father. And when it came time when he had no choice and the choice had to be made for him, Will became a true pirate and more than that.

    • @jamesvach6698
      @jamesvach6698 Před 2 lety +42

      Jack did establish in the first movie that regardless of whether or not Will could accept that his father was a pirate or not, he did have pirating in his blood and he would have to make peace with that one day one way or another. I also like how the Dutchman came back and turned the tables. That part about him not considering what would happen to him is curious since he did note earlier that every step towards his father was a step away from Elizabeth. His past and his future colliding so to speak. I do have a bit of a curious thought though. When Jack chooses to confront the Endeavor, one could say that he was planning on the Dutchman helping him and perhaps he was. I think however that losing his immortality and his friend (if only for a short time) caused him to overpower his urge to run away from the situation. His statement that he was never one for tradition strikes me as his way of saying that he isn't running away this time without settling things with Beckett once and for all. Just how I see it.

      The biggest achievement is that the special effects in Pirates 3 still holds up well today. Every so often, I still pop in my Blu Ray of the film and watch it on a 7' projector screen with two towers speakers and a woofer. It still leaves me awestruck today. PS: it's worth the money to get a Blu Ray enabled projector. It helps the sound BIG time.

      I don't think that was his motivation at all. He was shocked that he was bested in a life game of chess. Everything he maneuvered, plotted, and all for him not to foresee that the Dutchman would turn on him and that Sparrow, an uneducated pirate had outmaneuvered him. He was a vain and pompous little thing and in the end it is what killed him.

    Will: You know, if you just kept to slave trading, opium dealing, and exploiting third world countries economically and just let me marry my damn girlfriend instead of stirring up all this crap...
    Beckett: Yes Yes, I know, are you going to keep circling around my corpse or pick me up already?
    Will: Not sure, it's a new ship, gotta get used to her first, maybe a couple years sailing around the world to get my bearings.
    Beckett: I thought you were the more merciful one of the lot.
    Will: Well I'd say there's some room in my heart for a little bit of mercy, even for someone like you. But unfortunately my heart isn't exactly here right now, bye.

      I find this scene so bad, two broadsides from a few pirate galleons would have no chance of sinking a 1st rate ship of the line let alone make it instantly disintegrate like it does in this movie. I guess you can justify this scene in the movie by just saying they are firing magical cursed pirate cannon balls that make everything they touch instantly explode.

    • @johnsaunders5690
      @johnsaunders5690 Před 5 lety +44

      @@snapage1606 also the fact that firing broadside on broadside is a very inefficient way of trying to sink a ship since the round shots are landing above the water line, so it's very unlikely that the endeavour would sink, exploding doesn't make any sense either, I'm pretty sure the powder magazine is below the water line.

    You know the main reason Beckett froze?
    HE WAS TRULY AFRAID FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HIS LIFE!
    If you watch Beckett throughout the series you would see him as highly arrogant to the point of thinking of being invincible. TO ALSO CONTROL THE CURSED MADE BECKETT BELIEVE HE IS A GOD.
    He had the mighty Dutchman at his whim, and with it he destroyed most of the pirates. Also, with his business he conquered almost the entire known world.
    Seeing the Dutchman suddenly turning against him, he realised he LOST the power over the seas, and his human side, his weak side, his vulnerability grabbed the hold of Beckett WITH THE SAME POWER WITH WHICH HE POWERED OVER HIS ENEMIES!

      Nah I disagree. Beckett's Endeavor will still smash both ships had it fired, plus with a whole armada still behind him. This was the only part of the movie I did't like.. But storywise I took it as that Beckett is such a master strategist, with everything so meticulously planned(Which is probably why he was so chill all the time), on experiencing for the first time being "outfoxed" froze in maybe shock or never having to make impromptu decisions because everything is usually planned for.
      Also why would the lieutenants just abandon ship and not take over which pissed me off. This too storywise probably they had such unwavering loyalty and respect for Beckett that his indecision unsettled them to the point of terror, and its every man for himself.
      But for Beckett it was not fear, but being too successful for your own good.

      +brav0wing he still could have killed everyone on the Pearl, but perhaps in the end he knows the Dutchman is unstoppable unless you stab the heart, so he knows that even if he fires on the Pearl, he still loses. Maybe in the end Beckett just didn't care about killing Jack if he was going to die anyway two seconds after him.
