- The best movies of Harry Potter vs Lord of the Rings ranked (by Rotten Tomatoes) shows the timeline of top 15 highest grossing (Box office) and best Harry Potter vs Lord of the Rings movies of all time from the year 2001 to 2022. In this video, the list ranks the Harry Potter movies and Lord of the Rings movies by best in ratings as well as grossing using the comparison Bar Chart Race graph. Harry Potter is a film series based on the eponymous novels by J. K. Rowling. The series is distributed by Warner Bros. and consists of eight fantasy films, beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and culminating with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011). A spin-off prequel series that will consist of five films started with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), marking the beginning of the Wizarding World shared media franchise.
The series was mainly produced by David Heyman, and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson as the three leading characters: #harrypotter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final novel in the series, was adapted into two feature-length parts. Part 1 was released in November 2010, and Part 2 was released in July 2011.
Deathly Hallows - Part 1, Philosopher's Stone, and Deathly Hallows - Part 2 are among the 50 highest-grossing films of all time, and ranking them as the 49th-, 47th-, and 13th-highest-grossing films, with Philosopher's Stone and Deathly Hallows - Part 2 grossed over $1 billion. Without inflation adjustment, it is the third highest-grossing film series with $7.7 billion in worldwide receipts.
The Lord of the Rings is a series of three epic fantasy adventure films directed by Peter Jackson, based on The Lord of the Rings novels written by J. R. R. Tolkien. The films are subtitled The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002), and The Return of the King (2003). Produced and distributed by New Line Cinema with the co-production of WingNut Films, the series is an international venture between New Zealand and the United States. Both are beloved series and have been hugely influential to literature and cinema. They have exciting stories, compelling characters, rich world-building and great production values.
Personally, I like the Harry Potter movies more, but I think the LOTR original trilogy are technically stronger films, simply because they are more cohesive and have a more consistent tone. However, I think that the Harry Potter books are better. Tolkien's prose and worldbuilding have no match, but I think JK Rowling is a better storyteller. My highly controversial opinion is that Peter Jackson's adaptation was an improvement upon the original material, because he knew how to adapt the essence and the best things of the book and leave behind all the heaps of fluff.
chamber of the secrets is underrated. it is my favorite harry potter book and its movie is pretty good too.

I think it’s because it’s way to similar to the first movie (obviously because of Chris Columbus) and his style of directing, which is why the movie is considered…less interesting. The book is good though with the mystery plot line.

Technically, Lord of the Rings was one movie cut into three parts because it was so long. So that one movie made over $3 billion and what was the average Rotten Tomatoes score? 90% Potter averaged about 80%. Three hour long LotR also outperformed two hour long Spiderman with fewer showings.

deathly hallows was also a single book spilt into two movie,parts two made 2.3B let's assume 3 parts of deathly hallows were made & add another billion so 3.3B deathly hallows alone would've made more then Lotr!

@@sarfaraz185 That’s silly logic. Potter movies had shorter run times and could be seen more for the same time investment. Just as Spiderman outdid LotR at the box office for the same reason. Using your reasoning LotR could be split into 4, 5, or 6 movies and make more than double or triple. The Rotten Tomatoes score tells the real story. Even that must be judged as there were people who didn’t see the first or both movies that scored it because they didn’t understand it was one movie in three parts. They complained Two Towers had no beginning or ending. 🤪

The cast, the prices, everything. Harry Potter is a great story. But LOTR is THE STORY. Of all fantasies.
Now I just remembered that The Harry Potter franchise has a total of USD 7.7 billion while the Middle-earth franchise has USD 5.8 billion plus that is "Ring Trilogy" added to the "Hobbit Trilogy", so without the Hobbit trilogy LotR would have accumulated just 2.9B. The box office of The Hobbit trilogy was really impressive (even though some fans didn't like it and criticized it a lot, the three films still held up well, with the entire Hobbit trilogy surpassing The Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers).
It was only inferior to LotR in terms of cinematography, plot and characters arc (LotR won 17 Oscars) and have more fidelity to the books, so in comparison fans are very hard on the Hobbit trilogy, because the comparison is very massive. But if you compare the box office of The Hobbit with the first three Harry Potter films, you will see that the Hobbit Trilogy was only a "failure" for very demanding fans who were expecting much more.
Or compare The Hobbit Trilogy with "Fantastic Beasts" which had little impressive box office sales, and is practically canceled by Warner.
Fans who speak badly of The Hobbit are simply very demanding, they make an extreme comparison, but the trilogy was average, and even better, than many others released at the time! The entire franchise still grossed approximately 2.9B, making this the second largest fantasy franchise based on a book that had the highest grossing sales.
Harry Potter had "Deathly Hallows" split into 2 films. But The Hobbit was one book that became a trilogy. And without which it wouldn't add so much to the Middle-earth franchise as a whole. Remember it.
Fans generally round up and say that LotR trilogy totaled 3 Billion, if so The Hobbit Trilogy totaled approximately 3 billion too, being a total of 6 Billion to Middle-Earth Franchise versus 8 Billion for Harry Potter Franchise 😅

So every other human being throughout history who has died by for instance being killed in a war, just wasn't loved enough, i guess.
