As a cat parent of 3 cats, I really think that grooming that baby in her own home was far less traumatic for her, and consequently, everyone else.

Maaaan. I got lucky with my girl then. I fostered a cat with super matted fur. I started her shave and she purred so damn much. Shed roll on her back so I could get her belly.

You did a great job for them. I'm a Vet Tech. Some things people might not know when it comes to cats...their skin is paper thin, it rolls around their body, it's often the same color as their hair and cats can turn their bodies every which way. I've been to the ER couple times from handling cats. They are lightening fast. If they get you with their teeth, they will bit down to the bone. It's not their falt, cats are just sensitive creatures. Again, well done.

She is great at what she does and takes a great risk, more so than I think some realize. I can see that you know this from experience. Best wishes and I hope you have no future occurrences.

It's dangerous to handle an extremely hostile cat. They're jaws ate like a bear trap. There ate no such thing as a gentle bite.

    Tip for bathing cats:
Use a window screen, in a frame at the bottom of the bathing tub. The screen allows the cat to grasp something during the bath.

I don't like to see any animal restrained and stressed, I understand why people give you so much grief for scruffing - to have compassion and see something in distress evokes a very visceral reaction for a lot of people, BUT I would rather see a short period of restraint and upset to resolve a health issue than see the matting get worse, for her skin to start pulling and becoming damaged and infected! You're doing an excellent job, and you clearly care about what you do. Keep doing how you do! You're awesome.

Okay, so to recap, you just made a personal trip to de-mat a grumpy old cat, shaved, cut perfectly straight lines, all while staying calm and distracting her with an adorable toy. Tell me, what is it that people have a problem with? lol Oh and asking about her allergies and making conversation with her dads. Multi tasking is an understatement. *Applause

For a cat that doesn’t like being shaved at all, there is only two options. Scruffing, which has no physical harm on the cat, and sedation, which can physically harm a cat especially older ones. The pet parents did a wonderful job. Both you and the parents were patient and understood, that even though their kitty growled and hissed, you were helping her. Great job DeDe! ^^

It hangs in the office framed the call it Fred. The kitty now has such beautiful healthy fur and he begs to be brushed. I hope this cat you groomed today has the same reaction. God bless you. Where I work we call that an average cat for grooming.
One suggestion for your kitty grooming - when we groom them in a lion cut we do go much shorter - I use a Bravura set on #30 or set on #10 and go in reverse - plus a very thorough combing out of the legs, tail and head and, YES, a bath. After that very thorough grooming we offer a bi-weekly or monthly comb-out service where the owners bring the cat in and we comb it out completely for them, and regular baths to keep the coat in good condition and under control. During the comb-outs we also clip the belly, the butt, the pads of the feet, the arm pits, behind the ears, clean the ears and clip the nails or replace vinyl Soft Claws if need be.
Most of the battles during cat grooms is because the cats have never been routinely bathed, combed and worked with. No different than dogs in that regard. If we work on the cat on a very regular basis the cats are much easier to do and stay in good shape, so no more cat-from-hell grooms as a result. Much safer for both cat and groomer.
We work as teams on the cats, even for the comb-outs. Very popular with the kitty owners and we make truckloads of money with the service as very few groomers in this area will touch cats.

This video is making me sooo nervous! We took in a stray cat and she is so lovable and would generally never bite but one day she got really upset about a possum she could see outside and was trying to claw her way out of the window. My mom was worried she would get hurt and took a blanket to try to get her, aware that she might snap in this situation. Unfortunately, her head got out and she bit down into my mom's hand so deeply, her mouth opened so wide that she got stuck for a moment! I had never in my life heard my mom screech like that. I think I have PTSD remembering it!!! ;__; Her hand swelled up to twice its size and she had to go to the hospital immediately. The cat had tore a tendon in her hand and it was infected so she needed surgery. Even years later, my mom's hand still has issues. Cat bites are no joke!
That being said, my mom still has the cat and that cat looooves her to bits and has never snapped or made any indication of aggression (toward a person) before or since that one time. But you really just never know with cats!

Cats, just like dogs can sense when people mean them no harm but must do things that will help them in the end. The more long hair and mats that you removed, the more the cat appeared to settle down. No drooling, which usually means fear. Dede, you are one of a kind. Keep up the good work. Keep David too, he's a real cutie. :) Great job.

This groomer is speedy - she's seems to generally "buzz" at a higher frequency overall - but she's confident and that seems to keep the animals relatively calm.

Most people don't understand that animal care doesn't always LOOK like they think it should. Its about the care and safety of the animal and the safety of the person performing the task whether it be grooming or vet care. Animals don't understand we are trying to help them all the time and sometimes you have to use different forms of restraint to ensure both parties are safe and no one gets hurt. I think you did an amazing job. You stayed calm, kept her comforted and had the owner involved.

Give your kitty her favorite treat and brush her regularly, just work on getting her used to the brush and if you come across a matted knot, don't cut it horizontally instead snip it vertically several times and try to brush it out. Just work on them like that and this really really help, of course don't snip close to the skin.

I hate that your having to back up everything you do because of the ridicule. you are fine! the pressure is not to hard, because you would have already cut the cat if you pressed to hard. that's the thing with cats.

Dede. You're great. On CZcams, there are random haters. Please try not to take it personally because everybody gets them as they gain viewers. The most effective thing to do is completely ignore them.

amazing handling, you are so talented with animals! I think "shhhhh" shushing cats will sound like hissing to the cat, so maybe just talk to her calmly! Just an idea I thought of, idk if it helps in a situation like this lol.

Excellent job! Great cooperation from the pet parents! Being in her own environment was also a great decision. As for having the camera guy also being your assistant, maybe setting out tools in an easy to see/ easy to reach and grab location could help?
Very smart to trim nails first!
Not only protects you and your helpers/ pet parents, but also gives you an early gauge of the cat’s temperament and attitude.
Congratulations on a very successful groom!

OMG thank you so much for sharing not only your vast know, but also your love of animals... Especially for taking on the animals who are extremely challenging. I started watching this alone, but when Remus, my little black furkid heard the cries of distress...he came to me and at first was perched on my leg first looking around trying to locate the unknown kitty and once he figured out I wasn't about to be attacked, he just curled up and chilled while we watched.
I hope we get to follow this beautiful kitty and major props to you for doing such an awesome job taking care of not just the kitty but her dads too. They did such an awesome job holding her and also following your instructions and that kitty was way more behaved than I expected! Another fantastic job Dede!!! I watched all the ads and I'm going to check out your store to see what you have for cats.
OH!!! I wanted to thank you for talking about bathing cats... I now feel relieved because I've only bathed my male cat one when he was still a kitten and it was only because he had loose stool and it got all over his paws and tail.... I was wondering how often I should brush my cats with a shedding tool or if you have any tips or tricks. It's one of the few things my cats don't enjoy. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

To be honest, I never thought grooming was a priority to me as a pet owner, but after watching a few of your videos, I take great care of my pets! I had a chow retrieve mix (she passed a few years ago of old age) I shaved every summer so she was not hot, she loved baths and I thought blowdrying her was so cute cause she enjoyed it, I did it for fun lol my cat will only let me groom her, if she gets a sticker she comes to me, its cute brushing her cause I'm the only one she'll let do it. I only have short hair dogs now 3 of them, all pit mixes, one I just got today. One was a rescue and the other was my birthday gift to myself. He hates being brushed and its so funny, he even gets mad when I brush our rescue dog and she's loves being brushed. I guess I never realized how important it was, I always enjoyed grooming my pets. I'm the only one who can cut the dogs nails too. I hope more people learn to enjoy grooming as I have just realized I have, its good for the soul 😇

I love how you help pets and their owners. I’m too scared to have my pets sedated just for a grooming. The expense and the potential for something to go wrong isn’t worth it. What you do for these fur babies may be a little uncomfortable initially but the more your groom them the better they get. Love your channel so much!!!
