The format allows it. While Johnny Carson didn't invent the late night format, he did refine it. But even his show had guests stay after their segment, so that conversation could occur between guests. I think perhaps there are a couple of reasons why the biggest network late night talk shows have guest/next guest. The network and maybe EP don't want there to be 'issues' between guests, although that's where the gold is. And I think some agents/managers/stars don't want their client to have their segment chewed up by someone else.

It has less to do with the format and more about Graham himself and his warm, inclusive, hilarious personality.
If it was about the format then we’d see the same thing on the James Corden show, but we don’t.

I rewatch it sometimes daily because It's so funny can't get bored of it. Unlike other hosts that are meh except for graig fergerson and sean evans they are both hilarious and unique

EDIT: I'm referring to how laughter is edited in specifically for CZcams videos and put over the audience's actual laughter, it's painfully obvious.
It's literally in front of a live audience...

@@spicycalamari8891 Laugher is not edited in - you're hearing the audience. Compare the short clips on CZcams to the whole eps of Graham Norton and you'll find that the laughs are the same.
edit: Just read up on this and the laughter is sweetened so it's clean but the laughter itself is 100% real. They do not edit a laughing track over the audience's real laughter. It's very well known that the audience's reactions to Graham Norton's shows are authentic.
Thank god for Graham Norton for keeping us company in this social distancing fiasco.
