  • Not much online showing the Vango Helvellyn 200 so thought I would do an overview of my latest tent its semi Geodesic three Aloy pole style should help keep it more stable in strong wind conditions, hopefully I will use it on my next wild camp and see how it performs in the wild, Hope this is of some help to anyone who is thinking of buying this tent.

    I love this tent, it just does everything that I want it to. Plenty of headroom to sit up, which is a must for me. Nice and spacious. Strong and stable design. Easy to get in and out. It's not even massively heavy to carry. I don't mind carrying a bit of extra weight for what this tent gives me. Has been my favourite tent for quite a while now.

      Hi Mark
      yes it may not be ultralite but as you say its quite a solid build and stable in the wind, the front porch is spacious to for cooking in, not bad for the price,
      who needs a Hillieberg anyway 😅
      thanks for watching take care and stay safe, Les.

    Super impressed by this tent. Just done a wild camp at Camasunary bay on Skye and the wind was extremely strong at times. Really pleased how this tent performed.

      That's Great to hear Mark, So Glad the tent performed well for you, I know it's not a super lightweight tent and it is a Budget tent compared to Hillieberg and the likes but if you dont mind the weight it does serve the purpose, thanks for the comment, keep Safe, Les.

    Thanks for a good review :-) Always loved Vango, ever since my first Vango Tent, and a rucksack, both as strong as houses, generous internal size. That tent actually spoilt me a bit, being able to get the fly sheet up quickly with the tent already attached, in a rain storm, is very convenient! That's the Vango design I go for, to this day.

    Thanks for that. A nice honest review of this Vango tent and you answered the questions I had about it. It looks so well designed with the inner going up at the same time as the outer plus good venting. As you said, the downside is the weight, but maybe the pros outweigh this. Good video

    I've got 3 Vango tents so far ... A Nevis 100, a Blade 200, and an ancient Spectre 300
    You get a lot of tent for your money, especially compared to the 'posh' brands.
    Their sleeping bags are great too - especially like the insect nets on some of them - means you can
    use them with a bivvy, without any unwanted visitors #HappyCamping folks :-)

    Very helpful, thank you. In the process of picking a tent for my scout son for a camp over summer. His bro and I can't go (we're cub & cub leader), but scouts can as they're old enough to be in tents by themselves. But the troop doesn't have enough, so they've asked if the kids can bring ones from home. My old Fairydown Assault has deteriorated past the point of no return, so I see buying a 1-2 person tent as an investment. Though my scout hates walking and will likely need to be bribed with numerous Robux before he'd go on a proper expedition! I was thinking about the Nova 200 but I'll go with the Helvellyn. I like the versatile front doors.

      wildcamping 150 hey mate, I must confess, I tend to find 1) The time and effort to film properly is a lot greater than most folk realise 2) imagery never truly captures the scale or grandeur of the experience 3) I suspect i wouldn’t be very good at it. I used to lug a Nikon f301 and some lenses up the mountains of Scotland, but it never quite hit the spot or “recreated the moment” My 12 year old lad is well into his mountains too so I may enlist him to help with a one off video to say “Hello CZcamsrs”. The channel is really just to allow me to leave appreciation to others who take the time to film, like yourself 👍

    Hi there I’m interested in getting one of these. You mention the pack weight but what is it like carrying the tent. What is it like to actually haul it around , do you find it a heavy tent in the pack . Do you have to sacrifice other items to off set the weights.

    • @wildcamping1502
      @wildcamping1502  Před 4 lety +1

      It's not an ultra lightweight tent by any means but to answer your question is a difficult one as pack weight depends on the individual But the lighter you can make the pack weight the easier life will be Hiking but lighter weight gear means spending more money, sorry for the late reply I dont always get notification from you tube, hope this helps, Keep Safe and Well, Les.

    hello Les, me and my friend are challenging Scaffel Pike soon and it's my first time camping, do you think this would be an appropriate tent to take to that area? Do i need to buy a groundsheet or just having sleeping bags will suffice? Thanks a lot and happy camping😊

    • @wildcamping1502
      @wildcamping1502  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, firstly the inner has a sown in ground sheet and I Always advise an insulating layer between the ground and your sleeping bag, search you tube for camping sleep systems lots on there to help, if you just sleep directly on the ground in your sleeping bag you will be cold all night, a light weight foam roll matt is a good start not very comfortable but a good start, then maybe a cheap airbed on top of that, I would think this tent would be Ideal up in the mountains, hope this helps, let me know how you go on I am sure you will have great time, Keep safe and well, Les.

    • @wildcamping1502
      @wildcamping1502  Před rokem +1

      Hi Scott
      I am 5ft 8" and that leaves me with plenty of room either at the foot end or head end but that's me so at 6ft 6" I would think you would just be on the limit sorry I can't be of more help, it's been a while since I had this tent out but if you sleep with your head to the door I would hazard a guess that you would just be ok, it's a decent tent in strong wind if well peged down, hope this helps mate.

      @@wildcamping1502 ...thanks for your reply mate. Tbh, when I camp in tents that can barely accommodate me, i tend to sleep diagonally from corner to opposite corner. The same as sleeping on beds, most all of which are 'only' 200cm in length. Sleeping diagonally gives an extra few centimetres in tents that can mean the difference between your head and feet not touch the sides of the inner. 😀

    Do you need the extra footprint or groundsheet?

    • @wildcamping1502
      @wildcamping1502  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there the footprint is just a protector to help stop any sharp stones damaging the tent groundsheet but the tent groundsheet is strong and waterproof so it's just a bit extra security, hope this helps, ATB, Les.

    I've just bought the 300 as i've a Tempest Pro 200 and it's ok for me but not when Catherine comes wild camping with me. Have put it up in the garden for a trial run tonight. The 300 is huge (compared to the Tempest 200) plenty of head room, cooking space and space to keep your rucksacks in the main compartment. Will hopefully get a wild camp with it next week.
    Do you think it's worthwhile getting the additional groundsheet?

    • @wildcamping1502
      @wildcamping1502  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Mike&Catherine
      Thanks for watching and commenting, you probably don't really need the ground sheet/footprint but I just made my own out of a pound shop tarp two reasons
      one it keeps the tent groundsheet clean and protects from any sharp stone coming through and maybe puncturing an airbed it's entirely up to the individual but I like to be belt and braces
      OCD and all that 😅, yes the 300 must be huge inside bags of room for you both best of luck for your future wild camps not sure if you have a channel will check that out now and if so look forwards to seeing your next wild camp on CZcams keep safe and well, Les.

      @@wildcamping1502 Cheers Les, thanks for the feedback. Will probably get an additional groundsheet for this tent as the tent groundsheet does feel a bit thin compared to the Tempest Pro.
      Slept in the Helvellyn last night for the first time and it was great. Very quiet despite a strongish wind, no flapping fabric, with the only other noise being the rain.

      @wildcamping1502  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Thomas, when I got the tent the inner was already attached and if you want you can leave the inner attached as long as its all dry and aired before its packed away, I hope your tent serves you well, Thank you for watching and commenting, ATB, Les.

    Looks a good tent for windy places, I would think a couple of extra guy ropes would not hurt.. I had a Vango, still have one thinking about it, but like you said I'm not keen on the way the poles have to thread through the fabric.. My Naturehike is easier as the inner clips to the poles, like a Hillieberg... Those trees must get hit with some win, really weird looking.... I'll have to check out one of your wild camps... I watch youtbe when I can as work long hours... :(
