I don't think this was balanced at all. These were extremely basic and ignorant points. A thorough review of the topic would include, for example, the work of Robert Putnam et al from Harvard University on Social Capital, historic rates of immigration, migration sources, historic composition of countries, the definition of a nation, and, yes, even genetics. No-one said it would be comfortable. The truth rarely is.
This was just pablum from guys attempting to position themselves for Sportsnet jobs. Sportsnet made a clear statement of what it's official ideology is. Note the word ideology. That's different from truth.
Cherry should educate himself more on the topic before spouting off his mouth, but he's aware there is an issue. Toronto's crime rate has been consistently and dramatically over historical averages from 1900-1960 for decades now. What's the difference? If it is migration, which is an honest point of discussion, the people that are affected by the higher rates (the old stock who are the victims in this case) deserve an answer. There should be no limits to the questions asked.

This was a perfect response to this. Cherry is from a different time in history, but no way he cares about immigration he cares about respecting the past and what happened years ago and continue to do today. I see it all the time, people just don’t care about the past or remember what happened, its important. But the double standard exists

I'm not the least bit nationalistic but you do make me proud to be Canadian when I hear the way you handle things at times, and can see how you are uniquely yourself in contrast to Americans you work with. Not better but different. How you spoke to and about the woman in the clip is outstanding. So decent and so smart. That can only come from great personal strength and perspective on life. It didn't warrant a firing offense. However, he did single out immigrants and newcomers when he said you people come here and enjoy our way of life. I'm a huge Don Cherry fan, but I was a newcomer too and I always wear my poppy. Infact, many of my Caucasian friends do not wear poppies. Was I offended? No, I'm not a leftie, but I was disappointed that he singled us out. Don has had interviews in the past where he clearly showed he was anti-immigration and pretty xenophobic (prejudiced against people from other countries), so this is nothing new from him. I think everyone should be wearing poppies, including Canadian-born people. Go to any University or government building in a major city and you'll see how many people don't wear poppies. As Biz said, Don is speaking from a Toronto context too so some people took demographic fact that many Indians, Pakis and Somalians are around there and formed their own conclusions about race. Now this I disagree with, the man is no racist, he's offended Swedes and Russians more than any other group. He's just a xenophobe.

The hypocrisy has become a hallmark. It has since sunk to even deeper depths.

Living in Canada the CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corporation) was huge and really important. People related to shows that showed pure Canadiana, its lost now people just don't know what was cool about being a Canadian I blame the internet.

The reason this show is successful is because people are capable of coming here and sharing "their" opinion to an extent. Don Cherry is a legend and icon in hockey. Im American and it upset me to see Don Cherry vilified and fired. "You People" need to understand what ERA mr cherry comes from. West vs East, Capitalism vs Communism. Don Cherry was raised in the cold war. Don Cherry is a patriot who loves his country and expects everyone in it, to love it as well. Unfortunately were witnessing a turning of the tide. Don Cherry was only trying to articulate his disgust for a generation and people who dont love and support those who sacrificed the most. We live in a world of cancel culture and ideologies. People are actually stupid enough to openly want socialism and communism here. Thank christ I live in Florida =D

Please guys, hold those pencil necks Ken Campbell and Greg wyshynski, the drivers of the fake outrage bus that eventually got Don fired, accountable for inciting hate and hysteria.
