Who would have thought watching a video on seasoning cast iron could be so much fun. Great job, I enjoyed your sense of humor and the seasoning tips were invaluable. 👍👍
So as a restoration business I have a couple of things that are not correct about your information. Washing the skillet when you first get it does NOT remove the factory seasoning. It only removes dirt and oils that may be on the iron from the factory. It is good to wash it when you first get it though. Second modern dish soap will NOT harm your seasoning what so ever. Soap can be use anytime you feel you need to wash it. Old days long ago soaps had lye in them. Lye will remove organic material. Seasoning is organic material that is carbonized on the iron. And as for the use of foil in the oven....its NOT need at all. That was used to catch excessive oil from dripping in the oven from the skillet. If you wipe the skillet down really good before its put in the oven it will not drip. If it does you did not wipe it down period. The rest of the information in the video is good and well done. So here are the taka ways.... You can use modern soap anytime you want. It doesn't remove seasoning. Foil is not needed in the oven. And follow up session is recommended once you see the food starting to stick more than usual.
Fake news
Ya but soap soaks into cast iron and ruins it favor and taste so I don't know were you think you know anything but you don't stop misinforming people dish soap soaks right in to cast iron I not stupid like the rest of America so ya do not use dish soap on cast iron of any kind it will runin your skillet no matter what dish soap you use it will runin that skillet forever so stop eating your time believeing all this trash
No put soap on your cast iron I taught that as lil kid I sure it hasn't changed suddenly but I the southern hill of Indiana and white middle class and I tell you what I never in my whole life ever put dish soap on cast iron I bet this guy had to buy two to just make this video cuz I am sure he runined it cuz the first shop in the video is him wash a cast iron pan with soap whish If I remember soap runins a cast iron pan no matter what it will there nothing about this trash that is useful it not true so don't wast your money effort and time on this misleading video of some kind that think he owe a restoration business so ya lye to another stupid but you ain't fooling me
@@ihmpall Republican? 😆
I concur.
Ridding myself of all the tethlon coated pans has been a feel good moment. And this easy as rain vid to season my new cast iron was awesome; thanks!
Good choice. Teflon and any other "non-stick" have forever chemicals that increase the risk of cancer and other illnesses and diseases such as metabolic disorders and hormone disruptions.
I have some of my Grandmother's cast Erie PA iron pans and I can still see my reflection in them!! They're over 100 years old! Still nothing sticks to them and they've never seen a drop of soap, just hot water, dry wipe, and a coat of oil. I'll hand them down eventually to become 4th generation cookware.
Wow your lucky to have those enjoy.
After you put the last coat of oil on do you reheat it up?
@@hiddenleaf414 After the final oven coat I allow the cast iron to cool down in the oven overnight and then put a thin coating of oil on.
Thanks for making this funny it made it less confusing for me I’ve never gotten over the intimidation factor of seasoning and you did it for me! Thanks!
Welcome, you got this ❤️😊💪
I appreciate your thoroughness, simplicity, and especially your humor!
I appreciate that!❤
HAHAHA! Love your sense of humor and informative video. I just bought a cast iron skillet and now the seasoning starts!
“Now that we confused our enemy by giving it a massage “🤣🤣
😂🤣
That was hysterical.
I liked the humor to this video. More videos should be like this on youtube
Great explanation of the seasoning and curing of my new cast iron skillet I got for Christmas. Thank you 🙏 for the information and fun time watching

Nice work!
You are so funny. You took a mundane process and turned it into an entertaining moment. Educational and entertaining. Thank you.
Welcome 😊❤️
I'm not sure what it is, but whenever you say "cast iiiiron," I get the biggest smile. Thanks for your help, Sir!
😂😊👍
Very well explained and useful steps. Though I always used other techniques to clean them up, I will definitely try your cleaning steps next time.
Finally someone straight to the point no "waffling "on nice job 😂
Straight to the point and easy instructions to follow! Only thing that sucks is using my oven during this hot summer day lol oh well, thanks for the vid 🤓🙏🏼🙏🏼
thanks! nothing like a sauna in a hot summer day! 😂🤣 👍
I am going to get to do mine this month (December) so I am excited about that!
Personally, I take my oven outside and do this. Otherwise too much oil for the kitchen. I have done this on several cast iron pans and have never been disappointed. I clean my up a little more than these guys do as most cast iron pans have some blemishes that could use some special care.
It not thale way you should cc lean a cast iron pan do not use soap on cast iron it soak into the pan and runin it taste
@@TheRealJanetChanneldon't use dawn or dish soap on cast iron it will runin it
This is such a helpful video! Super simple and quick. Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Very entertaining video! Thank you for the humor and tips on torturing, uh, I mean seasoning 🤣

YO!😂I love this dude’s narration. Job well done sir.
Thanks 👍😊
Amma try to low-key spend my next vacation watching an empty oven real quick, thanks for the advice.👌
I've never fully understood seasoning of a cast iron skillet. This video explains it throughly. Also a reminder of why I switched back to commercial stainless steel pans. 🍳
Thanks!❤👍😊
No... They are worth it .
Cast iron is far superior to any other pan material, sears like no other, easily cook from stovetop, fire, BBQ, oven etc, sleans easy, and everytime you cook with oil it just adds to the seasoning layer, wash it as normal, the only downside of cast iron is heat drying it and making sure you throw a small amount of oil on the skillet before storage, there's a reason why cast iron skillets last for a lifetime and are handed down generation to generation
@@matteagle8206 I don't disagree with most of that but how do you really know you're getting it clean when it's all black and you can't see what's baked on and not dishwasher safe.
@@TheKingOfInappropriateComments dish soap, and if things are stuck in that bad I use a chainmail scrubber for cast iron, also if I notice things are really sticking I'll deglaze with wine or something similar
Really nice video and explained easily. Thank you very much!
I just did my Lodge 4x with Canola Oil at 425 F and it came out beautifully bronzed.
Thank you! Just purchased a cast iron Wok.
Wonderful!
Hilarious and helpful!!?? Ya nailed it! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!😊👍
Lodge is pre-seasoned so for me I do this but only once Ty for your video.
Man that was so much fun to watch, good job
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was so helpful that even I am able to follow it!
Glad it was helpful!
Informative AND entertaining!
Glad you enjoyed it!😊👍
I have an old rusty skillet I'm going to try and bring back, but initially I will season it outdoors on a camping stove and use a propane torch to heat the oil in. Better all that smoke out doors than inside the kitchen.
Just got out of the box thanks for the information not the same one you have lounge❤😊
So cool!
I had no idea that watching video like this can be so funny :D 🤣
“now that your skillet went from name brand to generic and lost value” 😂😂
😂🤣
Thanks for your sharing, I come from Hong Kong
Love the word play, cracked me up
Very helpful ty
This video was so helpful and hilarious. Goated vid.

Dude listening to you is damn calming
Thank you!!! from one cook to Another
Our pleasure!
Great video. I’m using an outdoor pizza oven, is the foil necessary?
Yo my guy your humor is hilarious! Great video dude 🙌
Thanks 😊😁
Is Ralph Barbosa narrating 😅
😂😂😂
Would you recommend seasoning more than one skillet at a time? I have three that I need to do and I'm wondering if I can lump them all together since this process is a little time consuming.
Yes you can
Nice job of making a boring topic an entertaining video. 😆 Very cute and useful information as well.
So after seasoning, do i need to oil the skillet if not in use?
Nice bro. Thanks
thanks. welcome! 👍😊
You're the true legend.
You are 💪😊❤️
Wasn’t expecting to laugh so many times during this vid. Great post
😊👍
This is very helpful, yet Hilarious 😂😅😂😅😂❤
Very helpful 🎉. What happens if I start cooking and don't do this 1st step?
Thank you for the information! The narrator makes me think of Pedro from napoleon dynamite
😂😊👍
Does the oven temperature have to be 450 degrees. I read 375 or 400 works too!
Concise and excellent advice
😊👍
Cool thanks
You bet❤😊
Good Job!
Thanks!
Thank you for teaching me👍👍
My pleasure 😊
That was hilarious, thank you!
Your welcome
😂😅you're very funny with hpur Ecplaining 👍👍
the outside of my new cast iron set is RED, i guess its a coated enamel paint over the cast iron..so i guess i wont need to coat the outside with oil?
also, can i just place aluminum foil tightly over the top of the skillet ,then turn it upside down ? please answer soon if possible
Thanks 😊
Welcome 😊
Great funny video. Thanks for your help
Enjoyed the humor😂
Awesome 😊👍
This dude is absolutely hilarious lol and made a fantastic tutorial that was straight to the point. Earned my sub!
thanks! awesome!
Ikr 😂😂😂
If you want to save 3 minutes, so long as you understand "New cast iron pans rust too." That's metallurgy 101. Clean it with soap and water, damp dry, use high temp cooking oil and let it sit for a day. Bake the pan slightly hotter than your cooking range but don't burn it. Bring it up to 425 degrees for an hour, turn off the stove/ oven and once cooled repeat the process at least one more time before using new skillet. Cast Iron rust quickly do not let it sit in water ever. Wash and dry by hand ONLY!
So hilarious and informative video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So, after I've used it, do I wash it or just wipe it out. If I wash it, do I have to season it again before using?
How often do I need to season the pot?
When you see the foam you're in the zone! Anyone else get that vibe?
I laughed harder than I should’ve😂😂
Is it normal for an overwhelming strong metallic smell when I wash it
Do I heve to seasoning every time i use it
How soon after seasoning can I use my cast iron skillet?
Can it be seasoned with Coconut oil or olive oil please?
I've never understood this process before. After watching this video I understand it and now I'm wondering why didn't I understand it before! 😂
Should i rinse it after it cools down?
Sir you are toooo funny 😂
Nice
How long to cool down in between seasonings?
Do you let it cool down fully in between?
This guy is great!
thank you 😊👍
Does it smoke in the oven while its there for an hour?
So funny! Thank you. Going to torture my new pan now 😂
👍❤️😊🤣
Funniest informative video I have ever seen well done narrator 😂❤
Glad you think so!👍😊❤
Can i use a palm oil for seasoning?
Dude, you're hilarious!
I was supprised you made no mention of using gloves and being safe as it is way to easy to get burhed when using cast iron skillets
I didn’t understand something here. Do I have to repeat this stage after each cooking and the washing up? Or this is when the pan is new?
Thanks
do not clean with soap every time. only do that when its brand new or when food is stuck , after using soap you have to season a few times. aka add oil and heat it
This may be a silly question, but you do the lid with it also, correct?
If it is a cast iron lid yes.
