Wow, what a great poem. I was surprised at the publication date of 1807. The experience of disconnection from nature has been with humanity for longer than I imagined.

That's what always blows me away about this poem, too! Wordsworth and other Romantic poets were writing poems in the midst of the Industrial Revolution and so nature vs industry pops up a lot.-Paige

in may, for a graduation ceremony for my partner, I chose to read "morning glories" by mary oliver, and that got us on a bit of a poetry memorization kick. the next poem we decided to read/process/memorize was this one!!! so it feels quite serendipitous to have seen this on my subscriptions page :')

One of my favorites as well, and one that has been on my mind often lately. So glad to see it on this channel! And so glad to see Sarah as well!

Proteus is my favorite because I always think of that part in The Odyssey where he's just bobbing around in the water, basically retired, tangled in kelp and hanging with some sea lions.

Sarah reminds me of couples that I love, which makes me think of the McElroys. I wonder if Ours Poetica would consider inviting Rachel McElroy for a little CZcams/Poetry Corner crossover.
