Jason Richardson demonstrates how writing guitar music for his song 'Tendinitis' found its inspiration and development away from the guitar. This time, from a synth arpeggiator!
When he plays it slower it sounds way cooler to me, like a banger riff.
Because he's not using right preset for this song, just go to his INSTAGRAM and find out his video of him playing this riff with low gain tone

Protest the Hero did that with the guitar parts for Kezia. They essentially wrote parts that they couldnt play and had to learn and practice the shit out of them before recording hahah.
I do it all the time.I use this same approach.
I’m nowhere near Jason’s level, but I do the same thing a lot of the time. Write what I think sounds cool, then practice it til I can play it.
You look like the darker twin of Adam Neely that instead of going to jazz school and playing Bass, you went deep into the metal culture and learned guitar instead

AJ Grizzy maybe but I’m just going based on his looks and such plus they’re focusing on different spectrums of music and Adam teaches also and does research

From what i remember, Tim Henson of Polyphia did a similar thing where he wrote chords and melody separately on a synth/keyboard then managed to play the whole thing on a guitar, pretty cool way of writing things you wouldnt normally think of

Would of never thought of composing a song or a riff on a piano and then applied it on a guitar.
Jason actually writes from what he hears. Tim literally just copies the shit.
My man tim said in an interview that one of his choruses was a section from a song from ariana grande played backwards. The thing is tim uses keyboards to compose but to be honest they play 8 strings so there are a lot of possibilities and options.
Jason's fretting hand is mesmerizing. Whenever I see him play it blows my mind.

I write things that are way too difficult for me to play, making me learn and practice. Gives you your sound I think, your own personal progression and playing style is what makes you a musician. Not a wannabe that sounds like someone else. Jason has it all.
Play 1:30 at 2x speed and you have the initial version but more cleaner, no sloppy sound or missed note

@Taz D. Francis um... He clearly misses a few in this... Not saying he's bad... That just kinda happens when playing so fast, even with the very mastered. Sometimes you nail it, Sometimes a few bits are off.

@@NathanielBTM I'm 100% positive what your hearing in the fast version is the momentum of the string due to speed, which makes it sound different than if its played slower and sped up. Meaning, faster is how he intended it to sound, he even speaks about this in the video. Jason hit every note on this riff. Do yourself a favor and slow down the fast one. ;)

By no means am i disregarding his skill. He's extremely talented and what ge plays is amazing. But humans can only do so much. I'm simply saying that the second version sped up is how it would sound if you could play it perfectly... Like a robot.
Think of it like a tool assisted speedrun, or a cut up speedrun on a game of the fastest speeds of each section all bunched together, it'd be basically impossible to achieve in one single speed run by a human ever, but theoretically it's possible... It will still though... Never be achieved by anyone

Awesome riffage. Never heard of this dude and was shocked after a google to learn that I am 10 years older than him! Wow. I had heard of "Born of Osiris" because of the "Nik Nocturnal" channel; he's a young kid that plays very well and is into all the Djent stuff but I've begun to realise that I'm an old man now! Lmao! Excellent work from Mr. Richardson; totally, totally edifying.
@Aaron Wells Yeah, I'm certainly gonna check him out. I rarely listen to modern metal at all, in the post-early 2000's sense, excepting some black/death. Hence why I sub young guys like Nik Nocturnal. I have many playlists on my channel of bands I do like but I never dug Meshuggah or the genre(s) they are credited with influencing and spawning; basically the Djent stuff. I guess you could say I'm stuck in the past but thanks for the tips. Richardson is clearly worth the attention of any player and I will certainly be having a deeper look at him.

@Aaron Wells Also i think you can find super old videos of him on her wheres hes playing All Shall Perish songs when hes like 16-17 and just destroying them (and they aren't easy songs). Of course later that year he went on to tour with them playing lead lol. Kids too good for his own good lol. cheers!! \m/

I'm learning this riff right now and can play the first part of the riff at probably 75-80% speed already, it flow surprisingly EXTREMELY well and i'm playing on a six string
This riff is definitely best at full speed. Haters just can't even play it slow...

Jason did something similar for a solo he died on a tune by Purge of Lilith. I think Jason ran a few arpeggios into a synth's arpeggiator and then learned the output, which sounds like a broken computer and is quite difficult.

This is how I compose a lot of my difficult parts in my music. That way I know exactly what’s going on.

I have a Majesty 7 but I can’t fit a 58 through my tuning peg and I guess I just assumed he didn’t file them down?

Yeah man!! The one on his Instagram, he played in full speed with the right tone it sounds different, cause like EBMM 7 strings are 25.5 so it gets floppy when he tunes down to G , that's why with right tone, it should sound perfect.
