  • New technique for some larger shoot tops that got cut off from a extraction a week ago.
    I had this these tops sitting in the rain water for a few days after I put the smaller diameter ones in the tub the way I usually do it. About 4 days later I did the larger ones with this worm compost and coco/ perlite mix wrapping method. They have way more branch and leaf than I ever saw any instructor use for a clone but they looked good even after sitting in the water for almost a week. I think sitting in the shallow puddle of water gives them maximum water and being out in the open rather than in a box let's them breathe more. Maybe the slightly cooler temps during the day and a lower less scorching sun is helping as well.
    Either way with results like this I will pull some out of the bin and try doing them like this to see what happens.

      I wasn't planning to do a video for another month or so but when I saw roots growing in 4 days I had to share. I was amazed they grew that fast.

      Englewood south of Sarasota middle of the West Coast. We have two seasons fire season and hurricane season.
      I grew a few pieces from seeds. Good luck with that. I tried with thousands of seeds. And got 4 plants. You get very few to sprout as seeds from bamboo are only viable for a few months. Many varieties don't produce seeds at all but you can literally find someone selling you a seed that's supposed to be anything from Moso to giant timber bamboo. Both are running and don't produce seeds at all. Also my 4 year old purple bamboo plants are about 5 feet tall and not purple yet.
      You can take up to 20 years to get from seed to full height of 12 or 15 feet. Best to find a bamboo nursery and spend the $80 and buy a rooted clone of what you want. You can have a full size specimen in 2 or 3 years that way. (And make your own clones)
      I found some I liked and dug it up.

    how old does the black bamboo have to be to produce seeds?

    • @seetheforest
      @seetheforest  Před 4 lety

      I have absolutely no idea. Depends on the species but could be 20 to 80 years and some species rarely produce seeds at all.

      These are clumping not running bamboo. The ones I collected these from have been growing in the same spots for over 50 years and they had to have been growing for 20 years or more before that. So the parents to these have been growing in the exact same spot for almost 75 years. Not invasive or running.
