They're most similar to Maximum the Hormone, another Japanese metal/jpop crossover band that is often cited as a major influence for Hanabie's songwriting. Hanabie started out as an MTH cover/tribute band, in fact. I drove 9 hours to see MTH play their only east coast NA show in NY back in 2014 and was so happy to learn that these ladies were touring the entire US! I'd drive 9 hours to see them too, but thankfully I won't have to!

Great interview. I seem to be falling in love with Hanabie more and more with each song they release. Can't wait to see them in concert. I was supposed to see them at Aftershock last year, but things happened and I had to miss the whole festival. There are so many great bands in this world and I find myself gravitating to Hanabie because of their fresh approach on their style of music. I'm wishing them happiness and success.

Hanabie's awesome! So is Nemophila, and of course my favorite Band-Maid! Hanabie's had a lot of fans already but it seems they're now rising up to become just as well known as Band-Maid!
I have to agree in such a short time Hanabie., has grown in popularity to the point where they are rivaling Band Maid in terms of becoming a favorite among Japanese rock and metal fans. That is why decided to interview them and the response has been amazing. Hopefully my next interview will be cleared and I can introduce the Fox audience to Band Maid.

Amazing interview !! HANABIE. is the best band ive been lucky to experience live. They are so humble and hard working they deserve everything !!! Also the music is amazing. I hope more people get to learn about them and make their day a lil bit better.
It is so nice to have metal coming back strong. Autotune crooners are played out. I particularly like Hannabe’s song and video about the frustrations of Japanese work culture, “Pardon me, I have to go now.”
I agree 100% it’s refreshing to see metal making a comeback and I also agree that Pardon me I have to go now is a banger.

Tomorrow is supposed to be their show in Lisbon (if Chika gets better in time) and i'm really excited because Portugal NEVER gets these awesome bands from japan. I got into Hanabie when they released the MV for L.C.G and youtube recommended it to me at the time.

The interesting thing about them is that, despite having as many monthly Spotify listeners as SCANDAL (the most well-known Japanese all-female band in Japan) and about 1.6 times as many as BAND-MAID (the second most well-known one in Japan) , they're not ranked even in the top 50 Japanese all-female bands, in Japan. Not only NEMOPHILA and LOVEBITES but also even Gacharic Spin, which Spotify listeners are only one thirtieth theirs', is in the top 50, meaning it's possible that more than 95% of their fans are non-Japanese. I want to know why they're way more popular overseas than in Japan and why the opposite is true for SCANDAL.
That’s an amazing question and when I interview them again in September I’ll find a way to ask that.

That all seems pretty dumb. Might I suggest some Motorhead, Cramps, Crass, Current 93, or Christian Death instead?
I’m open to anything. One problem with doing Motörhead is Lemme is no longer with us and I like to interview the bands I do a piece on. If you suggest a band that’s touring in the NY area I’ll do my best to feature them. Thanks for the comment
You've clearly not seen their show. I saw Static X and Slayer open for Pantera before they broke up and we lost Dime. The Hanabie show I just saw in Sacramento totally matched that energy. Multiple Walls of Death, nonstop Crowdsurfing, brutal mosh pits. They aren't afraid to get off stage and out into the crowd and mix it up. Yukina will stage dive at the drop of a hat. In a lot of ways, they're like a legit rowdy bar band. Their openers were solid, too. They kind of remind me of the Runaways in that sense.
