- Sea buckthorn is a dioecious shrub (plants are either male or female). To insure you will have both male and female plants, you need to clone known male and female plants.

Love your layed back, east coast style ,me son .ha. You took your time not rushing , helps us old guys. Just getting into Buckthorns ,have some ordered on the way. We,re anticipating an exciting time in our retirement years propagating this life giving plant. You,ve been a hell of a help, considering how difficult it is to farm ? on the 'Rock ',thank you so much ,have a wonderful summer .
Good experiment
My female pushes out runner roots and starts new plants all over the yard. Digging and potting those, ~50% die right back, and then ~2/3s of those come back a month later... so don't give up on any of them.
When did you originally cut the cuttings to clone? Do you normally spring propagate or fall propagate?
The cuttings were done in spring.
@@ecocentrichomestead6783 Thanks for the reply
Can you just put the cutting in a vase with water to root it?
Yes, one could.
I was trying the plant multiples to increase my chances route.
Rooting in a vase takes much more hands on attention.
Good Morning 🌞 what is it and what is it used for ? Thank you 😊
It produces small orange berries high in vitamin c. A cold climate replacement for oranges. The seeds are said to be high in omega 3. You'd probably have to blend them in a smoothie to grind the seeds.
One would process the berries like any other small berry.
@@ecocentrichomestead6783 that's so cool 😊 Thank you 👍
