I am excited, there has to be some sort of ground army in a game about Rome. I also think this sets them up greatly for expansions in Egypt & Middle East.
Same on the big map they poated you can some two ship in the east one towards Egypt and another towards Greece

They had to go far back because of their titles. In case you haven't noticed, it is always 9. For that you need to know numerology.
Anno 1602 = (1+6+0+2) = 9.
Anno 1701 = (1+7+0+1) = 9.
Anno 1404 = (1+4+0+4) = 9.
Anno 2070 = (2+0+7+0) = 9.
Anno 2205 = (2+2+0+5) = 9.
Anno 1503 = (1+5+0+3) = 9.
Anno 1800 = (1+8+0+0) = 9.
Anno 117 = (1+1+7) = 9.
Based on this rule their only choice is to go far back to the Roman era. I agree that war needs to come back. The average lifetime of a Roman emperor was less than a year. They all got murdered. In that era, it was war all the time.

I want to be able to play as the Greeks in this game. Imagine the possibility of playing in co-op as different factions, and we trade and help each other, just like in Anno 1800.
They'll probably add greece/constantinople to a dlc like what they did with Africa in 1800. They'll probably also have north africa/egypt aswell

I'm pretty surprised that a new Anno game is coming next year, considering all the updates and DLC that 1800 is getting. I'm cautiously optimistic about what the game is going to provide for us.
Also, the fact that the years have to add up to 9 and the next Anno is not 2025 is such a missed opportunity. 😆
I always thought the first 2 number + the last 2 numbers had to be 18 and that they stopped that with Anno games in the future but it has always been 9? Anyway I am glad we don't get a futuristic Anno
anno had its last DLC in like early 2023 . the dlcs it gets now are just flavor packs like the halloween , steampunk , newworld etc .

That would suit this period particularly and really set it apart from all the other ancient city builders currently circulating. If they could do that and keep the 1800 gameplay it would be amazing.

Going to Rome is something I thought they could do but o didn’t think they would, so this is great! I was holding though with going to Rome they’d go a bit further back, like maybe 27AD or even 27BC. Also I agree with you that there’s several aspects about this project that could make a lot of people upset. But I am excited about it!
Tired of publishers forcing me to use specific launchers via game exclusivity. This is so anti-consumer, I’m not sure why it’s still legal.
steam takes a pretty big cut so blame steam. no way they should make something like this illegal unless you're really into having that government overreach type thing
Blame steam they take 30% cut while providing one of the worst launcher services/ui, why does steam need to use more than 60% of my gpu?

I waited for 1800 to come out on steam and then on sale before I bought it. Loved the game, I got a good couple a hundred hours out of it.. I am sure this Anno will be the same.. I will wait for it to come out on steam. I am not in a hurry.

Is it just me but when he finished his speech and turned his head towards the camera I was expecting him to say "what's in your wallet?"
My thoughts on ground combat are that it would be amazing to see it, but also I'd be totally comfortable if it wasn't part of the game - because limiting battles to sea only can create a nice balance between chill, peaceful gameplay and strategic combat. I do hope we get ground battles though, genuinely.
As for grid-based city building, I have to say that for a game like Anno which is behind the scenes basically a living excel spreadsheet, I think it suits the game very well. When you're dealing with a clearly defined grid, it's easier to understand and plan the mechanics in a clearly defined way. So unlike other games which do very well with a free-form system, I would be very happy to see Anno keep it's traditional grid system.

Finally Anno has the courage to take on this epoch! My guess is they didn't touch this epoch before because there was this game Caesar with relative good success, similar genre like Anno, which entirely covered the Roman epoch already.. I believe they were afraid it could come across a rip off if they would do it.. finally it's coming.

I'm very happy with the prospect of an Anno game in this time period. Despite all the problems of Ubisoft they delivered great when it comes to Anno and the antic era is perfect. But I agree that it should be an Steam.

What a Huge miss not to go to the Greek colonization era 8th-6th centuries BC. ANNO has always been about starting new settlements in island/coastal regions. Greeks and Phoenicians would be the perfect the match, for colonization and commerce antagonism in antiquity. Other functions would be perdectly suitable as well like the Etruscans, Egypt or even less developed 'barbarians' at the time like the thracians or illyrians.
Rome at 117 on the other hand is NOTHING like that. None of these other functions can be included since they are all, already subjugated. . We're already dealing with a huge, settled, land empire. And Romans were never sea people.
One thing I know is that there will be another dlc apocalypse...
If they dont release this on Steam on Day 1 then they're nothing more than money-grabbing fools.
my first anno game was Anno 1602 I Played it on my compact computer in 2000 and I was hooked. I don't need battles, if there's a peaceful setting that's the one I would play. I like to build and give people a quiet existence.
I refuse to play games on epic. I only play on steam. I have waited a year to buy it when it came out on steam. If this is on steam ill buy it day one. If only on epic.... ill wait

I could not buy 1800 on ubisoft store, it would not let me and no matter how much I talked to IT support they did shit all. The only reason I could play it in the end was steam got it. I will be very unhappy if I can't even buy the game

That time era has dirt for navy units.. if wind is still a factor that'll be rough with all that sailing.. ground combat is a must because noone wants to fight with the same 5 ships.
I hope its decent. I would have rather had a mid 1900 era during ww2. Yes that ww2 ship mod for 1800 is dope. Imagine having that plus aircraft in anno game. Ah man. And no steam platform... why.

It is about Rome. Rome is probably the only scenario where grid building actually makes sense, because that is how Roman cities were built.
i dont understand what is so bad about it not wanting to release on steam. I already use the app for all the other ubisoft games.. "we want options" i am sorry but no, we just need a good game, doesnt matter if it is on a diffferant launcher that most people will use anyway. I think steam even take a % cut, but don't quote me on that. I am very excited to see this genre for Anno! i cant wait to hear about it.
