    Bravo! You've hit the nail on the head with the biggest problem of the iPad (Pro), and it's not the display, the M1 or M4 chip, USB-C, or camera, but the lack of software for this device. Why not tell the truth: there is no software for the iPad Pro! It's a great pity that Apple tried to implement iPhone OS instead of Mac OS! Would there have been problems if Apple had allowed Mac OS on the iPad Pro? Yes. But there are problems now. Trying to work all day on a laptop (iPad Pro) with iPhone software is a much worse option than working with Mac OS. For 5 years they have tried to convert iPhone Software into Mac OS instead of the other way around. If they don't approve Mac OS now, the iPad Pro (including Magic Keyboard and pencil) will fail. No one will pay EUR 3,000 when for EUR 2,000 one can buy a MacBook Air with an M3, 24 GB RAM, and a 1 TB hard disk (I'm writing this on it). And with an iPhone Pro Max, I can do the same things I do with an iPad.

      Well. Soon enough you'll see, Apple will dodge the EU "Gatekeeper" verdict by a new line to replace iPad Air in Q4 this year, and M4 being barely a technological advancement on M3 but a rebrand instead. These chipsets will have embedded business partner code, that is a trade secret that EU can't pry into, the AI node.
      Ai node can be accessed by software like Nvidia Omniverse API's but Apple reserves the right to complicate this access at their backend. Its uses are things like streaming Nintendo Switch 2 video feed as a raw SD signal, onto the Apple device where it then renders the Super Sampled video locally, for seamless use on platforms like Digital Twin on the Apple Vision Pro environment. This will feature on many monitored devices in Q4 in an attempt to replace HDMI altogether, similar to Sony-Phillips optical disc revolution of the industry that N64 dropped out of, seeing it as a fad.
      They'll announce this Apple side of it on Tuesday, with Apple Pencil 3 being compatible with Switch, alongside the release of compatibility features for Endless Ocean and newly RELEASED Wind Waker remake. This will probably come packaged with budget grade Apple Pencil 3, but mostly as standalone WW branded ones for the digital game. A new Nintendo Art Academy like Tilt Brush compatible with Apple Vision Pro will be announced, alongside its character creation mode that functions like a limited VRChat. Visually it resembles Switch Sports and features Toon Link or a similar established character, from a lesser known nintendo IP like Earthbound or Kid Icarus.
      Or not.

    I've had an iPad since the original release in 2010. I'm currently using a 2017 pro with a dying battery, so I'm anxious to get a new one. It's great at most of the things I use it for. The gen 1 pencil was a hassle, and I'm looking forward to a new pencil. A re-positioned front camera would be nice too. What I really want out of an iPad that I can't do today is the ability to write and run Python or R code locally, and to sync files with git, or with my NAS. If I could do those two things, I'd probably get a 13in pro. Without that, an 11in air is more than enough. So we'll see next week...

    it doesn't have to move on from iPadOS, it just should have to many features and optimizations that can take advantages with the higher end chips which is basically (M1 = A14X, M2 = A15X). Dual booting to macOS could be one good idea. Other Android Tablet software on higher end ironically have more features than iPadOS (iOS in genernal) 😂

    Apple needs help getting apps manually into the app store. The more programmers Apple can get, the sooner Apple can push Mac OS into iPad.
    But people have to learn to code with Apple and their coding softwares and open source in order for their apps to work both on NTSC and PAL and to get M series chips to work on iPhones, too.
    They need to push for prices to be lower and for more M series chips to be manufactured so that they can push more M chips into older hardware.

  • @ruschein
    @ruschein Před měsícem

    While I pretty much agree w/ you, what I personally want as a minimum requirement for purchasing a new iPad Pro ever again are two things: 1) a better files app and 2) a terminal app. The latter also requires a keyboard w/ an escape key and a more open and accessible file system. But, admittedly, I am in a tiny minority. I also use a shell command-line on macOS for virtually all file manipulation and also even for opening videos PDFs etc. That probably makes me part of about .1 % of all macOS users.

    @TheFeedRocket Před měsícem

    I wouldn't mind a single OS that just acts differently depending on the device being used or the way you use it, so really a unified single OS that pulls all apps and software would be amazing but Apple wants you to buy an iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and a Mac Mini or iMac at home. Unified OS would allow you to use your iPad as a laptop, a tablet and a full desktop connected to an external monitor. Considering how storage and mobile chips are moving, it's not impossible to think of a day when your only device is an iPhone you connect to other screens. (if you had a unified OS)
    So it's never going to happen, and by saying never I hope just the opposite happens because I said never.

    I love iPadOS! I’m sure the iPad & Macbook will morph together someday… but as an artist, the iPad in it’s current state is the single best product that Apple has ever made. Hands down. Not only is it the best digital sketchbook ever created, it is better than any laptop for content creation & media consumption IMHO. I prefer writing on it over a laptop. It’s better for surfing the web. For editing photos & videos. Plus it is thinner & lighter than any laptop. I ditched my laptop back in 2018 for the iPad Pro and haven’t looked back. So i don’t get all the iPadOS hate. I fully embraced & converted to an iPadOS only workflow. I just think Mac users are just stuck on MacOS.

    I totally agree with you, Apple needs to incorporate the touch elements of iPad OS into Mac OS, and the iPad Pro should run this modified Mac OS. I suspect Apple have already done this in the lab, but are reluctant to release it, because they really want you to buy both a MacBook and an iPad and are concerned a large screen iPad running a version of Mac OS would impact Mac device sales. I currently have 2TB M1 12.9-inch iPad Pro and feels like an oversized iPhone that is missing key OS functionality needed to make it a tablet computer. If the latest iPad Pro, M3, M4 whatever, is still running iPad OS, it will continue to be the most pointless product in Apple's product portfolio. If you are wedded to Apple ecosystem, it makes more sense to save money by purchasing an iPad Air, because iPad OS doesn't allow the iPad Pro to do anything significantly better to justify its extra cost.

Yes, it makes a nice media consuming device, but I can go all the way back to 2018 with the SAME user experience for that. What excites me about the IPAD is replacing my Wacom tablet for retouching with the pad in real photoshop (not a heavily scaled down mobile app). or at LEAST better sidecard when pairing with a Mac as second screen. Otherwise, could care less about thinner bezels, OLED screen, M4 M5 M6

    Let's look back at 2010 when Steve showed the first iPad: a device between iPhone and MacBook. And that's what iPad is.
    iPad is very mature. I don't think Mac OS on iPad Pro is a good idea. When you use Mac OS on iPad Pro you will complain about how non-Pro iPad Pro is with just one port: Thunderbolt. That's worse than MacBook Air. And you already got MacBook Pro that got an even better display.
    Let iPad be iPad.
    Let MacBook be MacBook.
    ONE thing that iPad OS need to add is multiuser support so accounts like on Macs with Mac OS. If a parent want the kid or grandkid to use your iPad you can let him/her use your iPad with another account and he/she will not delete all your e-mails and photos by mistake and so on. You can feel safe when you let someone else using your iPad for a quickie! We NEED some solution for that. Which solution that's best? I have no idea but I hope Apple can create one!

This means Apple understands that customers want their iPad for everything from playing iOS checkers games, to using Logic Pro and Davinci Resolve. Everyone understands this. That's why Apple keeps pushing what iPad can do. One thing I think you do understand is that the MacBook Air has no touch screen, stylus, face ID, or OLED screen.
