  • If you want to pull up to the trailhead with a mountain bike that most people in the US haven’t seen in person before, then we have a treat for you. Many of us can’t afford a rare and exotic car like a Bugatti or Ferrari but when it comes to mountain bikes it can be a little more attainable. In this video, Jeff walks us through his experience with the Spanish bike brand Mondraker and their enduro/trail steed the Foxy Carbon 29. If you’ve never heard of Mondraker you aren’t alone. They are well known in Europe but fairly new to the US market. If you are looking for something that’ll turn heads, this mountain bike is for you. Whether it’s the distinctive flat top tube joining the unique looking head tube, or the carbon suspension linkage leading into the offset seat stay/dropouts, it definitely does not look like your average mountain bike. You guys rep Mondraker now? Didn’t know. Having a Yeti now, I can’t imagine a better bike, although I’ve always wanted a Mondraker. Is it worth leaving the tribe? (Not this 29 particularly as I rode 27.5”)

      A Mondraker or a Pole would be my next frame choice. I am impressed with the Mondraker suspension setup, a demo ride would probably pry my pocket open. I was also considering their Dune model as well, my choice will be an aluminum frame.

      I was looking to get a Mondraker. Unfortunately there was no bike dealers around that sold them near me. I ended up getting another bike I really liked, a Yeti SB150. Love it and it is my favorite bike to date. Maybe next time I am in the market I will try the Mondraker if I could get you guys to ship me one:)

      Looks sweet! Curious does it pedal good enough for a long time hardtail\ss rider? I finally purchased a fs bike last year, new stumpy st when released, just not getting along with it. Any fs bikes you recommened for a hardtail/ss rider with not such a low bottom bracket height? East cost rider, pedal strike city!

    The bike is cool, but I’m more impressed with a young, seemingly successful business owner taking risks to provide customers with exotic options, while still taking time to provide comprehensive test, review, and technical videos to fellow bike nerds for free.

    I've watched this and a few other videos about this exact bike and bought it 1-2 weeks later, changed the carbon bars to race face next and mt7 brakes, and its my favorite bike ever. feels great on big jumps, pure shredder in the bike park, and is really practical for training laps in the woods aswell.
    this is the koenigsegg or pagani of the bike world to me xD the carbon is just beautiful made !!

    Not a lot of people can handle the Mondraker bikes..I've ridden quite a few bikes from unknown Taiwanese brands to a Lapierre Black DH, a GT Sanction, a Giant Trance and Reign, and many others. Now I'm on a custom Mondraker Dune. Hands down, probably the best bike I'm riding now. If you're an experienced mountain biker, you'd like the Forward Geometry Mondraker has on their bikes. The bike just wants to go fast. If you can't handle it, you just might need a bit more experience before going for the brand.

    Love my Mondraker Foxy 29 R. Totally agree on the value, that was the one gut punch to the whole thing, but the rarity and beauty of the bike won out in the end for me. Already outfitted it with a few upgrades from WorldWide Cyclery - namely RaceFace Next 35mm carbon bars and a 34t AB Oval. Next is a set of i9 Enduro 305 Wheels and Hydra hubs!

    All what you said is also true w/ the summum, their downhill bike, which is the most fun giving bike i have ever ridden, this beast pedals really well, better than some enduro bikes (im talking about a downhill beast), is super agile but still well planted, and it always pushes you to go faster. This bike is absolutely great, and if you can just jump on it and ride it down your favorite bike park!

    I have a 2016 mondraker carfty r+ myself (size xl and I live in europe). They are definitely huge! I also really like my bike and while it wouldn’t be smart to compare a 2016 140 mm travel 27,5” plus bike to this new 150mm travel 29” bike I can confirm that mine also needs more volume spacers than come stock. I also really like the looks. Yes the value isn’t the greatest, and resale value is actually surprisingly low (at least here) they do put a lifetime warranty on their frames, which considering the weight is quite nice. Nice Video and you really hit the important points well!
    Greetings from Germany!

    Great review, completely agree with you on sizing. I was in Brevard NC over the holiday last week and demoed a Foxy RR from Squatch Bikes & Brews. They are the only demo distributor in the state. Only had one day on the bike but I was blown away. The bike eats up the gnar and steep downhill stuff, climbs like a goat and was very stable at high speed. Love it, just wish the price point was a little lower. I was on an XT build and that retails for around $6,000

    I love the Foxy the frame reminds me of a DJ frame for some reason plus I like how the rear triangle meshes perfectly with the front. If I was allowed to purchase one I would My biggest problem with it being carbon and being a big guy that top tube scares me I would be scared if I fell on that top tube after crashing it. But besides that I love how the reach is too that is awesome it would make you feel like you are more "In" the bike. Good review!!

    Great review as always! I would like to hear a little more dial down on the components. What's the drivetrain? Front sprocket size? I liked the comment on bike frame sizes. I too am 5'-8", and I normally ride a Medium with 29ers. But Ive noticed, if the frame is a large and paired with 27.5" wheels with a beefy 2.4-3.0 tire, I can sit nicely on a large frame. It's just that 1"-1.5" difference.

    Heres a thing of note* Anyone whos ever built up a bike knows that the frame size is much less important than the geometry #'s. All of it is kind of just a starting point. All of those #'s are affected by the saddle position, stem length, crank arm length, bar width, saddle height, tire size, stem stack height, even the tiny stuff like tire psi and sag settings can affect all of that. So when I hear people going on for ever about comparing this bike to that bike and how this manufacturer feels,etc,etc. It gets reaal riduculous, because just about any bike can be set up any # of possible ways. Folks understand that frames are just that. Like mentioned above, find out what works for you, pay attention to what feels good, then look at the corresponding #'s

    I usually ride a medium and 27.5, and I ended up demoing a size large foxy with a dropper that was too long at a local trails anniversary party. You can imagine how massive it felt. Which is a shame cause I could tell it was a great bike. It was set up with a coil in the back and it felt soooo plush. Hopefully I can demo my actual size some day.

    Question to ask you !
    Re; Yeti SB 150 as you know it comes with a 170 grip 2 fork upfront, i'm thinking of dropping to a 160 grip 2 as i'm thinking of doing a custom build would this make the bike a little more poppy ! & would it climb a little better ? As it would make the head Angle a little steaper & lower the bottom bracket a little !
    Cheers jeff.

      You are spot on. Dropping the fork 10mm on that bike would be no issue and just do exactly what you are thinking. Climb better, lower bb and slightly steeper head angle. Not a bad idea at all.

I just bought a Canyon Lux and really would have liked an xl for reach im 6 foot but the seat tube ends up being to long. Sizing is more confusing than it used to be.

I am not looking to shave of another sec. on every round but I am looking to have some fun, so I will most likely jump left and right on every bump. Anyone got any ideas? Thank you .

    Hi Jeff, I am also 5’8 I am looking at buying evil insurgent lb.. I am in two minds weather to get a M or L frame... The geo on the large looks like it will fit me pretty well... what size do you ride?

      Well I think you can go either way depending on the feel you are looking for. The L will be longer so a little more stable at speed but a touch less agile than a M. Both are obviously very close though and either size will ride awesome. Do consider the seatube length though and what length dropper you want to use. We do sell Evil's and are very familiar with them so don't hesitate to get in touch :)

    I have a brand new in the box (that has never been opened) Mondraker Foxy Carbon XR (27.5), which comes with a superior rear coil over shock that I'm trying to sell. Too bad I can't list it in here.

    Nope, don’t like riding 29’er. But i have to take a look at What they have in 27.5 😜

      @flemming_j_ Před 5 lety +1

      Ian Holmquist First Of All, i own both sizes, and both are with moderne Geo, IE Long, Low and slack. The 27,5 is more nimble and playfull, easyer to corner with, at least for me. And the playfullnes and quicker handling are What i want most from my Bike, i simply dont Care that the 29’er rolls easy over stuff. I dont ride my Bike for it to be easy, but fun 😉

    Project farm made a you tube video about an amazing friction reducer called motor kote that you add into oil. I think it would be great for a sus fork but I was wonder if you could try it because you have so many forks from sponsors and I only have one. I truly believe that if would make forks feel so much smoother but I don’t know if it will have any side affect like ruin the seals or anything else. Please watch project farms video then try experimenting.

    About the topic of sizing.... you're saying size doesn't matter?

    • @WorldwideCyclery
      @WorldwideCyclery  Před 4 lety +1

      Uumm no. I think it is very important but it just needs to be looked at through a different lens dependent on personal preference rather than solely the height of your body. A long time ago I made a video explaining this a lot check it out - czcams.com/video/E3Qb97HHj1Q/video.html
