Thanks for another great Weapons Wednesday!!!!!!
I was an engineer for many years before my health failed. I have two master's degrees. I've taken a bunch of statistics classes although I've forgotten how I would run the statistics on this kind of test. I love what you've done! I love how you set up the test! I love how you accounted for different people of different backgrounds by recruiting members of the crew! This test was extremely cool! Thank you so much!
I once ordered some four-point stars from somewhere else (before I knew you even existed). I tried throwing them at the pressed fiber plywood. Getting them to stick into that surface was too difficult. Otherwise, I haven't done much throwing.
I had bought a bail of straw at Tractor Supply at one point. I left it outside, and the water got through the plastic covering. The whole bail became soaked and then dried. The result was an interesting surface, I'd be curious to see what kind of throwing surface you'd get if you bought a bail of straw, put flour on the top, wet the flour and the straw completely, and let it dry. Flour and water was an old-fashioned glue formula if I remember correctly. Because the flour is carbon-based instead of mineral-based, it shouldn't be too hard and shouldn't dull the stars' points. This surface might be slightly more difficult than the puzzle flooring but much easier than plywood. This might be easier to get than cross-sections of large trees would be. I think many knife throwers will cut a 6x6 board into thin slices and then put each piece next to each other so that they are throwing at the end grains. The flour, water, and straw target might or might not be easier to make.
Because you've showed with data that the five-pointed stars are easier to stick, I might someday order a few for myself. If I do, it will be because you provided data and presented that data in an intelligent way.
I am planning to order a different throwing thing for my nephew. If I remember correctly, it's some huge star-type of object. I'd have to look at my wish list to remember exactly what I was thinking. Sometimes, I see stuff that seems cool but maybe beyond what I can do anymore. I put that stuff in a special wishlist to inflict on my nephew. He's 1600 miles away, so I can't force him to try stuff.
Mel looks lovely in the blue dress.
All the best to you and everyone else at KarateMart!

Thank you so much! I love all of the things you mention in your comments. The bail of straw with the wet flour is really interesting to me. Have an awesome week, my friend!

The thing is that throwing stars were never meant to do much to begin with, as it was mainly used to cause a distraction or slow down people. That means that it was used to target soft spots allowing them time to escape or dodge attacks. The plywood is a little bit hard for it to stick in especially as the vibration would most likely knock them out. Also a plywood is layered wood which is stronger than you expect for light weight throwing stars.

I love seeing the crew involved. My favorite star is still the traditional moon star. What would I throw it at....I don't suggest anything made of metal as it tends to bounce back. Other than that, we would throw them at anything. I also don't suggest sharpening them all the way around. This is based on two cuts resulting in 14 stitches in a rather misspent youth.

I appreciate you guys uploading videos showcasing the items you sell. I ordered a couple items I just received yesterday one of them being the four point star. It is very well-made all points are razor sharp with a knife's edge on each side of the point. It most definitely would stick into plywood. Being skilled at throwing knives and understanding the human anatomy this four point star could easily immobilize someone or worse if thrown in the right areas.

We all see kung fu movies where they throw them like frisbees which can be done but it's more effective to throw them overhand.

I completely agree with you! I absolutely prefer to throw them overhand as well.
