Thanks y’all! Can’t wait to see what the 2020 7.3 can do!
Well looking at history it'll be reliable, but not fuel efficient. Matter of fact itll be getting about half the mileage the 6.7 powerstroke does
The Puppet Of Everything if the gasser makes same hp it will cost 30% more in fuel.
The 2020 7.3 is a gas motor and it doesn't make too much more hp or tq than the previous 6.2. You could probably get a pretty good idea of the trucks' capability by looking at a 2015 F250/350. I don't really understand why someone would opt for such a large gas motor instead of a diesel. A neighbor had a 6.2 in a 250 and he towed ~40' 5th wheel with it and it didn't do bad but not great, terrible gas mileage while towing. My in laws have 2017 350 diesel that they tow a similar 5th with and they had no problems towing through Colorado and Wyoming and got better fuel mileage. Neighbor down the street now has a diesel 350 dually.
Make it happen ASAP!
@@stevenf6885 because new diesels are more expensive and have a ton of garbage emissions systems that fail. And the gas engine is more than capable. It's not like you're getting 40mpg with the diesel. Not worth the headache.
I know 5 star loves you posting these videos for advertising. But these 5 star videos are fun and I enjoy them. It also shows you what these things can do for not a lot of money.
@James Marquis it's not 80,000. the Stx runs you about 56k and if you're looking for numbers and value the Stx is the way to go. They really are not that expensive compared to what they can do. And that price is with the Fx4 package!
A 4x4 f350 I want with a 7.3 is 49k msrp
James Marquis he’s talking about aftermarket money damn 🙄
Kenneth Barbee thank you for understanding what I was talking about.
For us, is a lot of money. And I’m not a fan all that thin aluminum and emissions crap. These are not going to last as long as past pickups lol
They know we wanna see 7.3 numbers NOW🤣
@mtrujillo1973 go to hell😈
@mtrujillo1973 no your going pal
Wow
Great review and I did not realize the power that the 2020 puts out.
My neighbor has a super duty and he's happy with the power. Now I believe him because I thought it was a bunch of bullcrap. Man I'm wrong again.😁
Now this is an awesome video! Thanks for bringing us such detail! Love me some TFL.
Same back JD! Hope to see you soon!
Get a room. Tfl just said the axle and trans ratios are different. So obviously the values at the wheels are different and cant be compared.
This video told us nothing other than tfl cant do math.
hey JD Big Truck Big RV good to see you over here. I follow you as well
Damn. They are getting real close to what my old freightliner put out back in the 90s. It had a 430 N14 cummins. Rated at 430 hp and 1650 tq. I think peak tq started a 1300 and carried thru 2000 before any effective drop off. I dont remember where peak hp was. Crazy numbers for a pickup.
Might be more powerful, but won’t last anywhere near as long as a Cummins and other past pickups lol. Thin aluminum and emission crap isn’t attractive to me either.
My Paccar Peterbilt only has 660 torque and 380 hp. It's a baby compared to the competition now!
@Mr Anonymous how much do you tow with it? Every tune truck that I've ever driven unless it's been a dedicated truck built for extreme durability (tractor pull daily driver) has entered limp home mode after about 5 to 10 minutes at full throttle with a 15k load on the back.
@Warren ya was a buddies 6.0. towed up what become the Ike gauntlet. Was hauling a connex that they decided to loadup. Literally a brick wall.
he had his gauges in his gauge pod set up to flash red when it was within 25% of the danger zone and then turn full red at 10% to danger zone. Nothing ever flashed just a sudden limp condition, I would assume fuel, but the pressure never dropped. it was a 6.0 so it's not really the best comparison but I've had similar problems when towing with Duramax is as well.
One of my friends has a Cummins I think a 3rd gen ram he is always tweaking it. He build with the philosophy of fast but durable. He regularly does sled pulls with it off roads it and tows with it. He had them Dyno tune it airing on the side of reliability. Was pushing 50psi up the Ike the whole way, then the trans lost some sort of signal shifted up and then immediately back down while under full boost. Made it all the way to Kansas like that with the trailer drop the trailer made it to Tennessee. he actually thanked me for finding the weak link then threw a firepunk transmission in it and hasn't looked back since.
truly an apples-to-oranges comparison though his ram easily has 40k underneath that hood.
My stock 8.1 didn't have a problem at 20kGCW up Ike. Held 45mph like a champ. (Oversized tires on stock gearing kept pulling her out of her torque band in 2nd once it really started to climb.)
@Mr Anonymous yeah I have no problem at all with diesel trucks but my biggest problem is when somebody goes out and throws a 200 or 350 horse tune on it and then tries to tow. if your only concern was performance when towing you have to do all of the supporting modifications and then you can try to run a hot tune.
As financially irresponsible as it would be I love my 8.1 gasser. I keep reminding myself I don't need a raylar 540ci stage 1 for $13k.....but 575hp 640LB-FT sounds so delicious.
I was previously seriously considering it but my limitations going to be my gcwr which I've done with this truck and it did just fine. So it's hard to rationalize the additional performance.
Very informative to have a video that just gets down to testing! Happy New Year!
Wow! ... Thank you TFL for bringing us this very thorough and interesting video. We look forward to seeing part 2 when it's ready ;-) ... keep up the great work!
Wow great vid n results👍interesting to what computer setup like, like running trucks on dyno show how your engine works but these new transmission are unbelievable.
Good video once again! I can't wait to see these trucks go up the hill!
Yeah, towing will separate the men from the boys.
Like the 5 Star videos! Love when the dyno is shown.
Great video and fun to see comparison. I bought a 17 F250 6.2L in Oct and it pulls with ease for my use. Love my truck and the SD line. Go Ford and great work TFL Truck!!
Great stuff! I look forward to all your Fast Lane videos!
Those are some good numbers, can’t wait to see the 2020 Powerstroke on the IKE!!!
These guys are gonna put motor trend out of business, and I hope they do.
@Evil often disguises itself in a cloak of virtue Absolutely, I'm glad I'm not the only one that notices. Also, your screen name is really cool.👍
Hahahahaha
Evil often disguises itself in a cloak of virtue
They literally just bought a ford tho! And ford supplied them 2 2020 super duties
Evil often disguises itself in a cloak of virtue Shoot! did I miss the memo? Because No manufacturer pays us anything. We have never and will never accept manufacturer payment. Who’s paying You??
Great video man! Andres definitely shines with the truck videos!! Can’t wait to see what that new 2020 you guys picked up does. I also hope there’s some drag races versus the 2019 diesel and 2020 diesel :)
Happy New year TFL! God bless you all!
Subscriber from Australia sitting down after outrunning all the bushfires on the way back from our 4x4 spot. ,Just gotta say, sitting down watching these videos makes me forget about all that shit . Every upload I live through, love it! Keep up the great work. Love the amercian trucks. Tough As Nails! I wish they were more affordable in Australia. A mid range 2019 f250 is about 105,000 USD here :(
Thanks for the dyno results. I just got a new 2020 F250 PSD. The holeshot could use some improvement but power comes on very quick afterward. I am still breaking it in but I did one 40 roll and a dig against my buddy's stock 2019 F250 PSD and he was shocked how fast I ran away from him. I am amazed at the performance of such a big heavy truck. I will probably add tuning when it has been road proven and that will be it. I am also amazed at how quiet this 2020 PSD idles. Maybe it gets louder with age.
Yeah !!! I was there that day getting my 5.0 tuned by the magicians at 5star. Glad to have met you Andre 😁
Woohoo! Loving this series guys!
I really like the outside style of the 2019 over the 2020, but those internals...🤯
This is the kind of Flywheel to tires power discrepancy we like to see! Not over-rated engines but heavily under rated! Well done Ford👌👍(Coming from a Ram owner)
Another outstanding, educational, and fun video. Well done. The 7.3 gas will be fun to see!
So that's 535hp and 1,115lbft of torque with a 15% correction this trucks already amazing now their going to turn it into a monster I can't wait to see this.
For the 2020 the stated average HP with a 15% correction would be 551.77 or 552 HP and 972 torque would be 1,143.53 or 1,144 lb ft.
Thanks for reviewing the 2020 diesel
sheesh, I wish my "older" truck was a 2019....
I am still driving an '02 7.3L Powerstroke
@@richfarfugnuven6308 just bought a 2010 f150. It was the newest best truck I could afford. Hope to get 100k out of it
@@LordFred69 I just love my old 7.3L Powerstroke.
1995 ranger
@@mlow42 i had a 96 ranger for a while. When i put it up for sale i had 10 buyers within 24 hours. This was the extra cab version. I drove my 2001 f150 4x4 until the engine up and quit one day while towing. While the 2010 has more bells and whistles Imiss the raw simplicity of the 2001...i trusted that truck :(
I'm glad I waited to get a 2020! Thanks. 😁
Leonard Rice haters gonna hate.
Thank you for doing this one. Great review!
That’s some serious power.
This new 6.7L engine is a beast! I can't wait to get my hands on one and see what they do when tuned! PS: anything past a 1:1 ratio is consider "over driven" because the output is higher than the input, hence the term "overdrive" so even 8th gear is considered overdrive!
Very impressive. I have the 18' 6.7L 350 and love it. The 20' is very impressive.
Andre is a happy happy happy boy, Andre at 5 Star Tuners is like a kid at the Toy Store with a bag of cash! Horse Power and TORQUE 1,050 lbs.is absolutely the best way to start the year!!! My lil ole 2.7 Ecoboost makes a measly 375 and I think that’s good, I ain’t man enough for this beast!!!
Sweet Baby J !!!!! Those stock numbers are INSANE !
Great documentary! I already had the ratios for both. From this, I see one noteworthy item which you did not mention is the HUGE difference in reverse gear. On my 2017 6.7 F-350, backing uphill, with even a modest weight trailer, loads up on the torque converter. It shouldn't do that. On the 6 speed, reverse is 3.128. This is impractically tall, being halfway between 1st and 2nd gear ratios. For the 10 speed, reverse is 4.69. That is a very welcome FIFTY PERCENT REDUCTION!
I'm impressed by the lack of driveline loss in the 2020 Super Duty. It is astounding the numbers this engine can produce... just think! 25 years ago, the first-gen PowerStroke produced 210hp and 425lb-ft of torque. How far we've come!
(Hp and torque numbers cited from MotorWeek's retro-review video, "Dually Shootout.")
There has to be more drive line loss than these number show so my guess is they are under rating it a bit too.
I know right I still have my 97 F-350 with my 7.3 and a 5 speed.
Diesel glory days..get yours before Greta bans them all!
Lol those are crank figures. More like 100hp and 300ft lbs
One of the best comparison videos I’ve seen.
I was having a complete s#!t~bag kinda day. ..opened up YT to get my mind off of it...this video helped. Super appreciate the collaboration with 5 Star. Great content! Exciting times we live in (for gearheads).
Thanks for the kind words!
Always best to run the transmission in 1-1 on a chassis dyno, but since the 2019 6 speed didn't have 1-1 they ran it in 5th at .85-1, makes sense. Since the test goal was to compare 2019 truck performance to 2020 truck performance it would have been interesting to do a second set of runs on the 2020 in 8th gear (also .85-1) to see if that dropped the HP. Like others are saying the 2020 in 1-1 should probably be corrected with a lower loss factor (10-15%), but the 2019 in .85-1 may be more like 15-20%. That 10 speed will also help improve performance on the road over the 6 speed, locking up the torque converter earlier and keeping the engine higher on the HP curve.
Won't be able to run that high they are limited to 95. Also the driveshaft speeds become very alarming if they remove the limiter.
It's always good to know the 'truth' about advertised values, isn't it?
Now, I'm looking forward to hear the 'news' about the new gasoline powered engine/transmission.
I 'agree' and want to 'see' the numbers for the big gas engine
@@georgewashington938 Hopefully Andre get's this video up soon,..even if I am NOT in the market for a larger truck I find these tests interesting.
@@regsparkes6507 Me 'too'
‘Haha’
@@georgewashington938 352hp 383LB-FT to the ground.
I test drove the 2020 6.7 STX trim. It was easy to break the back wheels loose. Also Ford lightened the steering and softened the suspension. I test drove a 2019 F-250 6.7 also. The 2020 was noticable more quiet and more powerful. The 2019 still has vibration that can be felt in the steering wheel. The 2020 has a lot less vibration and drives smooth, powerful and quiet. 80mph the tack was at 2,000RPM. Also 80mph felt like 60mph. The truck is incredible.
I have been GM trucks and cars even since 2005 area. These Ford numbers are just like Holy Cow!!!!! I might have to get rid of my Chevy bowtie belt buckle for a new Ford oval.
WOW!!!! At the wheels numbers are pretty damn incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome videos
Geez that torque! Tree stumps everywhere have begun trembling
Ohhh baby Looks like a new company work vehicle !!!
Great thanks guys!! Now I don’t want my 2019 anymore I want the 2020 😍 those #’s
Awesome video. Should do more dyno pull videos.
I wish they would bring back the 2011 body style 😢
My 2021 F350 6.7 has so much power stock, I really don't feel I need a tune. It tows like a monster!
My work truck has the 6.2L, I love it, minus it drinks fuel really fast!
I've been on enough dynos to know their correction factor is wrong. I've seen tuners do this to make customers feel better about the numbers and the tuning.
Lot of variables but yea. But as long as they're consistent is what matters.
Yea they increased the ratio between the two by not sticking with the same .85 OD - would have been a 0.24 difference but tested with a 0.293 ratio difference instead.
I've never used a dyno, but even I can tell something is wrong when you get factory crank power numbers at the wheels. Something has to be wrong somewhere
@@wrifraff Doesn't mean something is wrong, also doesn't guarantee it's correct though. Manufacturers almost always rate conservatively due to litigation. In a world where mass manufacturing cannot yield the exact same product every time, factory numbers are more of a validation that even the poorest performer within a lot will not produce less than the claim. These are also not naturally aspirated, exhaust forced induction is a massive variable; especially with large boost levels.
@@wrifraff Matt is right. This is best-case scenario numbers. Modern engines will detune somewhat when they get very hot, e.g. pulling 25 lbs. up a steep grade for a long time at wide-open throttle. More over, they admitted it was a cool morning... very high-temp dry air will decrease power as well as less thick air is able to be stuffed in the cylinders.
There was a time when Ford was a bit over-optimistic on their ratings whereas Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth was known for being conservative. I'm glad to see Ford doing it this way instead.
Excellent video
Looking forward to seeing what Godzilla (7.3L) does. Thanks much Andre.

Mind bending power wallet breaking cost !!!!!
Not really. 45-50k $ these guys are super reliable and build really well. (I've had 3 f350s now) one 2018, and two 2019s

@@dudove1 "Slightly" used trucks are virtually the same price as new. Might as well buy new.
Another great video. I've got a 2018 Lariat 6.7 Powerstroke. Its lightyears better than my 2016 6.7 Powerstroke. Im going to have to get a 2020 now...
Damn that's a lot of power
Just test drove a 2020 Lariat superduty 7.3...that’s what I’ve been waiting on...I will admit I was not super impressed by the numbers when they came out but the low end torque is impressive and with that new silky smooth 10spd it felt very responsive all be it fast (close to a 3.5 ecoboost). I’ve been wanting a gas (to avoid all the epa diesel junk) but the 6.2 is such a dog so that meant stretching a f-150 3.5 ecoboost to the limit. I just wasn’t sold on that. But man this new 7.3 sounded great and had the power.
As soon as a white lariat ultimate comes along I’ll sign the papers.
I drive a stock 2018 6.7, and this video is making me want to upgrade! Dang!!
Nice science experiment but I have a itch. All your 5 star tuning videos with custom tunes on the Ecoboost are awesome! I had 5 star do my gas super duty. What I'm dying to see is why haven't you guys done a stock vs. tuned newer 2018+ 6.7L powerstroke!?! I spent alot of time working in a diesel shop modding trucks. And it's common knowledge that new age diesels have huge gains. I wanna know what new 6.7s with bolt ons make tuned cause it's like my dream truck. (Can you tell I'm a Ford guy? Lol)
Glad to hear someone actually use the proper lb-ft rating for torque.
Enjoy all of your videos...I have 2019 F-350 6.7 TD. I tow a 43' Raptor Toy Hauler with Can-Am side by side inside. My question is....How important are air bags? I do sag a little, Maybe 3"..... And my other question...What tires would you recommend for towing this heavy of a load? I am currently using the stock Michelin 20" all season tire. Thanks for your videos and expertise when it comes to towing.
Thanks boys! This is what I wanna see.
Looking forward to seeing one Pull the hill:-)

@@jklewisjkldev So jelly! I hope you're having a blast!
I recently bought a 2019 6.7L with a 6 speed because I have a rule about buying “proven” systems that are very reliable.... but I really do want the 10-speed now 😂.
Adventures In Reality I’m in the same boat as you with that but Ford offers 5 year 60k power train and 5 year 100k Diesel engine warranty and my dealership offers lifetime on both when those warranties run out, just gotta pay labor, so I went 2020. Only time will tell
Ford F-250 6.7 Super that lifetime is a nice thing to have!! I am towing a 20k RV and I know after the warranty expires that the 6-speed is damn near bulletproof. But maybe down the road I will upgrade. Best of luck with the new rig! Hope it serves you well for many years my friend!
Adventures In Reality you as well, we are a family of RV’ing, currently towing a 31 Jayco Whitehawk, loaded its 11.3k, my 18’ PS had zero issues towing it, but decided to go with a 2020, this will be my 10 year truck, haven’t towed yet with it, only had it 2 weeks, waiting till spring before I do. That being said, only one other person here on CZcams has said something about ride quality, there is a night and day difference between the 18vs2020. And no one else is talking about that, just talking about power, the ride is unbelievable, my wife owns a 16’explorer and agrees the truck rides better than her SUV
Ford F-250 6.7 Super really?! That is surprising, was your 2018 a three quarter ton as well? We are full time Rvers as well and given the weight of our rig we got a dually. When I have weight in the back the truck rides fantastic, empty it jumps some like all duallys. I didn’t realize they did suspension upgrades and I worked at ford lol
@@FordF-Super I can confirm the 2020 ride is great. And I'm coming from a 2018 chevy 1500 6.2 4x4 with aftermarket shocks that also rides great. F350 same or better than the chevy.
Wow. Surprising results.
What id love to see is a comparison video with 2 identical f350 duallies, one with new power stroke, one with new 7.3 gas. I'd be curious how they'd handle the same amount of weight on the ike, loaded and unloaded mpg, everything. I'm sure you guys are way ahead of me and will deliver!
Got my attention with that intro man
Hey Andre, I think the halogen lights look amazing on the f250s
New Cummins had the same thing happen to HP. They advertise 400HP at the crank but they get about 390HP down to the wheels. Pretty impressive for a 6 cylinder engine.
The 2020 power curve is beautiful
Thank you for the list I’m just surprised on some models.
An old 2019🤣
So last decade. lol
These guys are clowns. They need to be replaced with some real mechanics
Really glad that I found your channel! I'm a German guy who always wanted a pickup truck. Now I have 30.000 euros and I don't know which truck I should get! I need an midsize alrounder which is Wacken worthy! So camping and mud should be as much as a piece of cake as a daily life of an toolmaker and a hobby blacksmith.... your suggestions?
Wow,this new 2020 engine really pulls!
That's pretty amazing
Cool stuff
I just find it humorous reading some of the comments. Andrew and the guys are doing a great job. We who are over 40 and 50 can remember that back in the day....not long ago in the 70s and 80s and most the 90s, we bought trucks 1500s, f150s, 3/4 tons, most all had a has motor, we didnt have tow ratings like today, didn't have the over hyped stickersnon the door etc. Etc. We hooked up whatever cattle trailer or camper we had or wanted and we pulled on down the road. No computer to remind us what bad gas mileage we were getting, no man ever telling you at the gas station that you shouldnt be pulling any certain rig unless he saw your front tires off the ground lol. We have become a society of numbers junkies. I bought an f150 crew with the 5.0 in 2015. I have 98000 miles on it now. I pull a 16 foot enclosed trailer EVERY day that weighs 9000 to 11000 pounds depending on the day and I pull a 29' camper every other weekend 120 miles. Have hauled diesel 1 tons in a flatbed and pull an equipment trailer with a 8000 pound bobcat a few times a week about 60 to 80 miles. That's normal and its something up until the past 5 or 10 years that was normal for most working men. I've done the same exact weekly run for 30 years with 1500s, 6.5 non turbo 2500s, 7.3 f250 and tk be honest the f150 5.0 does it better than any ever did and I dont hesitate to actually work my truck. When it comes to having to have the latest and greatest I think some take it too far. Use common sense. Stay in budget. Work the truck.
Meant Andre...damn spell checker
Be nice if you guys would also list the RPM's at which the rear wheel hp and torque are developed at when you provide dyno data.
Thanks
Gary
Looking forward to the real world fuel economy test and Ike gauntlet on your new 7.3!
That's an awesome improvement, love for you guys to go get some trucks with 200000 miles and review them for the a cool comparison, don't go back to far in years though,......
It's not been very long at all that those numbers would have been great for a tuned, deleted, bolt on engine and just a few years longer you had to swap turbos, injectors and more to get this power. Very impressive!

Have you noticed or mentioned that the battery has been moved back and that the air intake is in front, providing a more direct flow?
