  • Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022 military forces from Australia, Canada, Malaysia and the U.S., fired upon and sunk the decommissioned ex-USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60), July 12, during a sinking exercise (SINKEX) to gain proficiency in tactics, targeting and live firing against a surface target at sea. Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.
    The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans.

    A sad ending to the home of many sailors over its lifetime, much like mine, the USS Boone (FFG-28) which was sunk off the coast of Campbeltown Scotland on 18 August 2022. Oddly enough, Campbeltown was also my home for my last two years in the Navy. I was the independent duty hospital corpsman at the Weapons Facility at RAF Machrihanish just up the road.

      This is 1 thing that I can’t stand is the intentional sinking one of our Naval vessels that could potentially still have a lot of life left in her.
      I know the reason behind why it’s done, but in my opinion it’s a waste.

    I can remeber SINKEX of 2012. The did the same to my 1st ship USS NIAGARA FALLS AFS-3 off the coast of Kauai Hi.

      I remember the Niagara Falls when it was homeported in Apra Harbor Guam. Along with it were a couple of other Supply ships such as the USS San Jose (AFS) 7. Very hard working storekeepers (Just another day on the San Jose), a Ammo ship USS Haleakala (AE-25, and the WW2 vintage Submarine Tender AS-19.

    Must be awesome for Malaysian sailors to fire their weapons and sink a former warship, I mean when the hell else would they be able to do that? 😂

    • @MonkeyDZuki
      @MonkeyDZuki Před 2 lety

      Well they can try sinking a Chinese Navy warship if they fell like it too? But only if Chinese Navy would try bullying them as well. At least Malaysian Navy has something to defend them selves if China gets Furious on sinking thier warships.

      Its a very old US vessel anyway, US could choose to repair the vessels instead of making it as exercise target but No, they decided to use it as a target for exercise.

    • @gnranger
      @gnranger Před rokem

      @@karamatsumatsuno8385 The Perry’s have maxed out their service life allowance. Meaning they’re out of space and reserve buoyancy for more upgrades. It’s impossible to bring them up to modern standards with an AEGIS combat system without massive and costly modifications to their hulls. It’s not fiscally feasible to keep them around. The Burkes actually have maxed out their SLA with the Flight III, so they’re going to start phasing out in the next 20 years as the DDG(X) comes online.

      The more competent our allies become, the less we have to sacrifice (financially and personnel) later to China.
