- Panna Meena Ka Kund is an 850-step geometric well located in Amer, India. The limestone steps were built 8 stories into the ground in the sixteenth century to conserve water in the arid region. Visitors can climb the steps for free and marvel at the perfect architecture.

What most people are not aware of, is that for many of these stepwells in India that were built on royal premises, they even built an under-water tunnel to serve as an escape route for royalty, in the even of invasions and coup. It would be so cool if the government allowed adventure seekers to dive into the well to explore the submerged structure.

It's really marvelous! That was constructed in the 16th century. The mere fact that everything had to be dug by hand and they did not have the machines then, makes that Stepwell a wonderful example of the resilience and ingenuity of ancient Indian people.
