  • What started out as a really rough day turned fun when Seth found an old pipe in the trash heap. I felt like the Phoenix and was rejuvenated for at least a little while and ended up with a super fun day.

For the fakie pumping, concentrate on turning your hips and shoulders more. You are staggering your feet well, but are keeping your hips and shoulder mostly pointed straight forward (well, backward relative to the direction you are rolling). This makes looking over your shoulder and spotting your path and the transitions really hard. Try turning your hips more to the side you are looking, and try to get your shoulder turned even a bit more than that. So if you are looking over your right shoulder, your hips should be turned to the right maybe 45 degrees, and your chest/shoulders a bit more, maybe 60 degrees. This will allow your head to face your direction of travel more, which will let you see your line and where transitions are starting and ending sooner. Keep your knees bent and stay in a bit of a crouch, and concentrate on staying centered between your feet and working the squat motion when pumping transition.
Then, once you get comfortable doing this over one shoulder, learn it the other way. This will be your "switch fakie", and it's very valuable to be comfortable with this, especially on ramps.
For inspiration on mastering fakie stance and pumping, regular and switch, observe the master, Jeff Stockwell: czcams.com/video/83mKp3lMOHQ/video.html

That is great advice! I am working really hard on the ability to twist, that has really gotten bad as I have aged, and just looking behind me is a challenge even when not on the skates. I have picked up heavy club swinging to try and help with that type of rotational mobility and hopefully that will make some difference. I will definitely check out the video, thank you!

@@theaverageoldguy Adding to this, Try pointing where you are going, too as you look over your shoulder

@@ESYLFE That is a great suggestion and in fact is something I have been consciously working on recently. I realized while editing some of the last videos that I tend to hold my right arm at my side for some reason, so the past couple of park sessions I am extending that arm out and pointing and it has really made a difference!
