LEGO City Mountain | Zoo Backdrop | Ninjago Elevation

  • In this LEGO city update I start building the massive mountain! The mountain sits right behind the zoo and will cover the first raised platform that supports the Ninjago modular buildings. In this video I add the raised platform and build the base layer of the mountain. I still need to figure out how I am going to treat the countryside and add details... but so far so good!

    It's quite staggering when you see the rock wall on your desk and think, wow this is enormous. Then you showed the overhead shot of the city and I swear I couldn't even see it. The city is just gigantic! It's looking amazing!

      Came here to say the exact same thing, he shows the view from upstairs and I'm like why didn't he put the giant mountain in there, walks down the stairs and I still didn't see it till he pointed it out. Looks great Jordan.!!

    Consider a more gradual incline for the base of the mountain edge in the countryside area, as opposed to the normal steep cliff edges you have made with previous mountains. This way the mountain will look more natural in the rural part of your city, and more 'cut into' in the more urban areas. You can always get steeper as you go higher, which is more realistic for mountains.

    With the cliffs behind you can make caves for animals to expand the zoo and give more space to the animals.

    First I have to congratulate you on a very successful video today! It was entertaining and informative. The voice over is a great way to do it. You speak clearly about what you’re building without rambling and repeating yourself and you get to crank your tunes while building. Very good job on the filming of the timelapse sections. What a night and day difference between today’s video and yesterday’s.
    Also we both think everything you built today looks awesome. The mountain looks great behind the zoo and it’s going to make your whole layout far more interesting. Whoever said you build crappy mountains doesn’t know what he’s talking about. So far your framework for the mountain is great. Good job!

  • @richardrussell4022
    @richardrussell4022 Před měsícem

    Loving the rock work so far! You don’t give yourself enough credit for your more organic building. It looks great! If I may make a suggestion, I wish you would channel your eye for organic design towards the zoo design. Most zoos have wandering paths and offer unique viewing angles based on the animal and needed enclosure. The large dual level walkways really take up a lot of room that could be used for stories, more organic walk ways and varying elevations.

    • @richardrussell4022
      @richardrussell4022 Před měsícem

      Put another way. Think about the concept of your campground, how natural it is and apply that to your zoo. Zoos really try to mimic habitat as much as they can. Stark walls and glass take a way from that. Imagine embedding some glass into rock work as a viewing area. Or an elevated wooden platform with an enclosure with angled netting that keeps the animals from jumping out and allows a more natural view from above without needing windows at all. That sort of thing.

  • @Angrist17
    @Angrist17 Před měsícem

    The inset variation on the rock panels is a good start to prevent it from looking too uniform. I like the depth changes. Before you get too far into it, you should consider putting a cave or two in the bottom of the mountain to integrate with the zoo enclosures. A could of animals poking their heads out of the rocks will add some neat scenes.

    Where you talk about the narrower platform on top of mountain, that could be the ninjago mountain temple, similar to your older one, so the temple is at the very top looking down into the city, and each quadrant can have its own mountain topper relevant to the locality, the city can have some apartments, the countryside has mountain view observatory, ninjago has temple, theme park has a ride station on a cliff drop or observation tower etc, the snow village has santa shack and ski lodge run start…. Each has its own side and separate peak element but each unique to its feature on is face side view

    Think you should just finish off the back of the zoo instead of trying to incorporate it into the mountain and will make the fence look better. Also think zoo looked better as a grid giving the animals more room instead of the angled viewing areas which made each area smaller
