    Definitely several issues with this video..lack of grease & greasing procedure, no mention of proper torque specs or procedures, nothing about checking fluid level before squeezing pistons back in, etc etc. Damn, I almost need to make a video replacing my Yukon brakes so I can address all of the important things you omitted.

    There are differences:
    For the 1500 series, the 2007- will have a 13mm caliper bolt and you'll need a 20mm wrench to hold the slider. Torque on it is 28 ft. Lb. The caliper bracket is held by an 18mm bolt and torque spec is 122 ft lb.

  • @a1chemist1
    @a1chemist1 Před 10 lety +5

    One thing not mentioned here but folks should be aware of. The caliper bracket bolts MUST be torqued to correct settings. I went to about 130 (slightly over the recommended 122) for mine. You DO NOT want these bolts backing out. Notice GM put a yellow threadlock on them. That's why they are so hard to remove. Some recommend putting more threadlock on the bolts and probably not a bad idea. I have never done that and haven't had bolts back out. I saw a post that said to put antisieze on the bolts - STUPID!! ThreadLock and anti-sieze (e.g. the copper-imbibed material you see on O2 sensor threads) are not the same thing.

    awesome. I've done plenty of front pads but never rear pads. pretty much the same. i was thinking there was a brake cable for the parking brake I had to remove. guess I'm doing brakes on my wifes tahoe tomorrow. then knock sensors and intake gasket. glade its been unusually warm this month

    • @DeepPastry
      @DeepPastry Před 4 lety

      Replying after 4 years, while I agree you'd usually need to consider the parking brake cable on most other vehicles (mostly ensuring it's able to be reset for the new pads and not binding, etc). My guess is your Drum Brake pads will last the entire life of the vehicle. You'll more like need to change this Rotor/Drum combination thing a few times before ever needing new drum pads. An inspection of the mechanism for activating the drum brakes is most you'll need to do.

    • @2carpros

  • @2carpros
    @2carpros  Před 11 lety +2

    You can use grease on the caliper slide pins if needed. We do not recommend using grease when doing this repair, If any amount of grease gets on a brake pad it causes contamination ruining the pad. Do not put grease on retainer clips which hold the brake pads.

    i take top off brake fluid though also. so when i compress if people top of the brake fluid it will overflow. and i put rags around it sometimes it still drip. though i guess a fresh clean rag over the top would help just suck up the excess i never want to risk anything falling inside of the fluid so i just wrap the rags around the reservoir and sometimes still get some leakage on floor. its easy just sucks when its 100 degrees outside and doing at your house in driveway.
