  • How to configure DHCP settings on the ASUS RT-AC68U dual-band gigabit router.
    DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It basically means "get assigned an IP address automatically".
    Without DHCP, you have to manually type in IP and DNS settings on all of your devices. Thanks to DHCP, we just plug our stuff into our router and it's all done automatically.
    Most of us would be best off just using DHCP because it's convenient and easy.
    The reason you may not want to use DHCP is for a device with a special need. For example, a gaming device may need port forwarding configurations. Port forwarding would be annoying if your IP address was constantly changing because DHCP automatically changes your IP address sometimes.
    The ASUS RT-AC68U router makes static IP addresses easy because you can leave DHCP enabled on your device but reserve your IP address in the router.

    wow this was a very well-explained video about DHCP! To be honest I'm still new to understanding how internet configuring is and what are the best settings for certain stuff like this but I really appreciate the effort put into this and love the fact you show examples!

    Is there a way to export DHCP reservations or to import a fresh new table (xls/csv/etc.) file ? Thanks for your nice video.

    Thanks for the video, I've just one question why is it still that it shows not secure in the address bar or the url bar. It's the one thing that I've been trying to correct but I don't see any mention of it in any videos that I have been seeing. Is this okay that it's not secure?

      @@HomeNetworkCentral tried to set a static IP and then port forward for rainbow six siege but locked myself out of my router and turned my internet off lol. 1st attempt I guess. Thanks for the help though!

      After following my video that happened?

    • @CazmaRazz
      @CazmaRazz Před 3 lety

      @@HomeNetworkCentral changed static ip. Then I port forwarded. Then I set a manual DNS via properties of network adapter and install ty router options were unavailable and all of my internet crashed. No wifi, nothing. Set everything back to automatic and all fine :). So I obvs entered some dumb values or something.
