  • Do you need a computer to do FT8? No you don't, you can get by with a cheap Android device and an app called FT8CN.
    Note FT8CN needs to be sideloaded onto your device, you can find the app here: github.com/N0BOY/FT8CN
    You can find my original video on FT8CN here: • FT8 POTA with a Phone?

    I'm glad FT-8 has a theme song, I may have to try it.

      It’s not half bad!

    Using your Android phone as a hotspot you can run FT8cn wirelessly as well. Depending on if your radio has WIFI capability. It's a great app.

    Nice, I have wanted to do SOTA with FT8, a tablet is a lot easier to carry than a laptop

      Absolutely, and if I had an Android phone I could keep it even lighter. I am working on an iPhone solution, but that requires some workarounds. There might be a video on that coming very soon.

    That music is gold!!! I can almost see ABBA recording that!

      I was going for more of a Depeche Mode vibe, but you gotta take what you get.

    Good one Morten! That will save me lugging my raspberry pi around.

      I tried the Raspberry Pi route once three years ago. I could never make that work in a way that I liked. But this is very easy to get going.

    I'm an Apple fanboy but that was good to see. Keep the music coming too, LOL.

      I can tell you that it's not as smooth with an Apple device, that video drops in a couple of hours...

    I have a Samsung laptop, and I use it for my SDR and other ham radio equipment, I don't use it for secured internet connection, like banking or buying stuff over the internet,

    Tried to activate a park yesterday with no luck qrp on SSB but switched to ft8 and quickly received 13 contacts. Sometimes its necessary to be flexible and have a backup plan. I've yet to get this app to work with the Xeigu 6100 as planned but will soon hopefully.

      I had it working on the X6100. I even have a video of it.

    Hi
    I have Android tablet Samsung S8 placed next to rig speaker. Using FT8cn. Decodes well.
    I also use iPhone X running FT8d and iFTx ft8/ft4 apps.These are in iOS store. No interface just placed near speaker
    I have not tried VOX yet on transmit.

      Vox will work on TX, depending on your radio. My IC-706 does not work with VOX on the rear connector, only on the mic, so check your radio first. There will be an iPhone FT8 video coming.

    Why not use a X6100 and connect a USB keyboard? No computer/tablet/phone nedded.

    • @LB0FI
      @LB0FI  Před měsícem +1

      Mainly because I don’t have a 6100 anymore. Also because what you suggest requires a lot of fiddling for a solution that isn’t very good, and finally because that is not what the video is about.

    If you plug a digirig to an iPhone, does it recognize it? 73!

    • @LB0FI
      @LB0FI  Před měsícem +1

      Yes and no. If you use one of the newer ones with USB-C it will recognize the sound card as far as I have heard. For older iPhones with the lightning connector you will need to use one of those lightning to USB camera adapter dongles to make it work. It will only recognize the sound card though, since Apple does not open up the serial ports for third party developers.

    Is there a iOS option for iPad or iPhone?

    • @LB0FI
      @LB0FI  Před měsícem +2

      Yes, and no. There is an app called iFTx. It works, but not as smoothly, and no cat control. I will probably shoot a video on that tomorrow, so keep a lookout for that video.

      @@LB0FI thanks for the quick response! I may end up buying a cheap laptop or tablet just for this. I’ll be looking for the next video.
