In some religions, such as Christianity, suicide is considered a sin, and you are sent to "the place below" for it. This is what we see in the film. After he finishes it all, he instead is now trapped, back on the road he walked on before. He is in an infinite loop of his darkest moment. He’s stuck, exiting the studio and walking back home, before ending it all again, and again, forever. The characters clapping is satan welcoming him to his torment, before the characters go into the sky, preparing to infinitely loop his pain. This also explains why he is able to walk through his friends, they are ghosts. After killing himself from the loneliness, his friends congratulate him for for joining them in their ascension. David Hasselhoff's corpse can also be seen, from where he drowned and fell to the bottom of the ocean in a deleted scene from the movie.
I was watching this in bed, and after this, I went to get out of bed to use the bathroom and saw a Spongebob plushie on the ground. I put it next to a small box to be like a table, and it is currently having a conversation with it's therapist, Meowth plushie.
My take on the story: After a mass extinction event, everyone at Bikini Bottom was killed, and there was no food left. Spunch Bob was then forced to murder and cannibalize his friends. He soon spiraled into a deep depression recalling the screams of pain his friends let out, and the pleeds of mercy. After he murdered the other survivors, he had nobody, and couldn't keep living knowing he murdered and ate all his friends. He decided to takes his own life, where his friends spirits met him again, they all ascended, but Spunch Bob's demons did not leave him at peace, and one followed him through the Underworld to the realm above. This demon would then try to bring Spunch Bob into the Underworld.
He did die that's why his friends clapped because a sponge lives like......600 years so he hung him self and died to join them . That's also why he walks through everyone
Albeit the fact that surreal entertainment's videos are eerily animated, I fucking have strong fondness for these types of animations, these types of animations are garbage, and garbage like this in our meme culture constitutes as a masterpiece... No Boomer or any critic will have the IQ to understand that these videos are legendary.
My interpretation is that he hit the bottom and no one was there to help him, and eventually didn't end his life, but the fact that he considered it and was completely alone with it until the end left an unresolved scar on his soul. And to me, his friends clapping is a representation of how they all actually went through similar stuff themselves at some points and just went on until those episodes of their lives lost their importance, so they're welcoming him to the club of people who were once depressed and no one helped them.
I’m now realizing that sponge bob cares about everybody else and nobody asks how he does or cares for him which means most love will not return to you even if it means almost dying to love for that person.
SpongeBob derives enjoyment from making other people happy. It doesn't necessarily matter to him that people like Squidward aren't positive back to him, he's just happy that he can be a positive force in other people's lives, however begrudgingly. I know some people like that, they are few and far between.

My interpretation is that he hit the bottom and no one was there to help him, and eventually didn't end his life, but the fact that he considered it and was completely alone with it until the end left an unresolved scar on his soul. And to me, his friends clapping is a representation of how they all actually went through similar stuff themselves at some points and just went on until those episodes of their lives lost their importance, so they're welcoming him to the club of people who were once depressed and no one helped them.

I’m now realizing that sponge bob cares about everybody else and nobody asks how he does or cares for him which means most love will not return to you even if it means almost dying to love for that person.
SpongeBob derives enjoyment from making other people happy. It doesn't necessarily matter to him that people like Squidward aren't positive back to him, he's just happy that he can be a positive force in other people's lives, however begrudgingly. I know some people like that, they are few and far between.
