  • Hello!
    Today I am showing you how to retrofit a Professional Head Unit with buit-in USB and Bluetooth without loosing features like Aux-In, PDC (parking sensor) and of course having other new features like programmable car ventilation.
    Check the part list at the comments! ;)
    Enjoy!

    Jose, thank you so much for this video!
    Some radio units don't have empty space to plugin the connector but you can always tear apart the connector that you have and just insert wires into your existing one, as I had to do on mine. But your video helped me a lot!

    Thanks, Jose, with your help I've gotten USB and Bluetooth into my E87 now :)
    I've done it a bit differently, with USB connector in the glove box, but otherwise I've used all you've posted,
    cheers!

    Your video helped me retrofit bluetooth and USB on a very similar head unit (bought through ebay used from an lci car) in an R56 Mini (pre lci) THANK YOU!

    @JoseJJn  Před 12 lety

    Yes of course,
    I routed it from the handbrake to the HU by the right side, I inserted it between the plastic moulding and the carpet.
    Finally, the hardest part was the part near the ashtray, I installed it near the throttle pedal.

    Hi,
    MFL is totally plug n' play. But you need the right 'slip ring' which is the part where the MFL and the rest of the steering wheel wires are connected. If you have both, it will work
    Referring to the languaje, try many of them. German and English should always work.
    I am very glad to help people :) as you know this is an expensive hobby! hehe
    Cheers!

    @JoseJJn  Před 12 lety

    It depends on the production date of the car.
    At the newest cars it is not used because of the car socket.
    At the oldest one it is very recommendable but not mandatory. But its cost is very cheap, so my advice is to use it.
    Regards

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety

    It is easy if you are used to remove the parts.
    You have to remove the HVAC module and the HU as you can see in the video.
    Then you should remove the hand brake gaiter and the shifter too.
    Then, route and hide the wire.
    The most difficult part is to remove the USB socket. I did it pulling with a long screwdriver.
    Regards

    Hi mate!
    Sorry for not having answered you in time!
    Glad to hear that you have fixed it!

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety +1

    You have to recode the HU when the socket and the wire have been installed.
    Your dealer should be able of doing that but I am not sure because they usually refuse to do this kind of jobs.
    Maybe I can offer remote coding for that just in case your dealer coudn't do it.
    Regards!

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety

    Hi,
    You only have to choose a language that the radio has installed.
    If you choose chinese for example and the HU does not have it, voice control will be disabled.
    If you want to install a new one, you have to do it using WinKPF (I do not know how to use it)
    Regards

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety

    Hi,
    In your case you need to retrofit a MULF ecu which has to be installed at the trunk's floor. It will provide you Bluetooth and USB.
    You could also retrofit a iPod Interface which acts as a CD changer.
    Regards.

      Jose_Jn BMW HiTech Retrofitments & Coding hi Jose, i have e87 with business CD, no navi or anything else. Pretty similar to your. What would i need to have at least Bluetooth connection?

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 12 lety +1

    There are many part numbers that could fit. Mine are:
    - 84109237653 Socket
    - 65129263465 Radio with Usb and Bluetooth
    - 84316977740 Mic for the bluetooth
    - 61119129360 Usb wire

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 12 lety

    Yes, on the outside of the moulding.
    I tried inside first but it was very difficult, the only way of install it inside was removing the whole armrest part, and I thought that it was a lot of work for only one wire...
    So finally I passed it by the plastic that covers the driver's pedals (remove it, you only have to unscrew 3 screws)
    I am so sorry :( no pics of that process...

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety

    Yes of course.
    You have 2 options:
    - Dension 500 or similar interface that emulates a CD changer.
    - Install a MULF in your trunk
    Both ways requiere updating your car to the last software version.
    In adition, if you want to install a mulf you will have to cheat your production date.
    Regards.

    @CarlsonLipke Před 4 lety

    I was tired of all that retrofitting and recently I built my own head unit based on Raspberry PI 4 (very powerful single board computer). I used OpenAuto Pro as a head unit software. Much cheaper and much more flexible solution.

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety

    Hi again,
    The 4th menu is the BMW Service menu. It is totally useless. You can check the BMW Dealer phone number, BMW Central phone number and BMW Service number of your country. Also you can dial those numbers.
    Referring to your second question, of course it can be enabled but only for dial numbers and manage the inner phonebook. It is almost useless.
    You cannot set your clima or radio station using your voice as you could do with the Navigation System and the Voice Recognition feature

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety

    If your HU is the original one (The one that came with the car) you cannot change the chime...
    If you want the new chime style you have to reeplace your unit for one newer than 09/07.
    Regards

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 12 lety

    Your dealer cannot code it. It could code it if the Radio fits with your car's VIN, but if you want to retrofit USB with this radio (Buit-In) your car must be after 03/11.
    Many times you won't have to recode the radio but it it's very recommendable anyway.

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety

    They should be able to do that using E-Sys or the standard software they have for these purposes.
    Adding this feature has to be the same than other retrofitment but, cause this is not an standard retrofit, they could refuse to do it.
    Other way is trying to complain saying that you have suddenly lost this feature (obviously installing all the hardware elementes before going to your dealer)
    Regards

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety +1

    Depending on your audio system.
    Do you know which one you have?
    As far as I know there are 4 types:
    Professional iDrive (S609A)
    Business iDrive (S606A)
    Professional Head Unit (S663A)
    Business Head Unit (S662A)
    Do you know if you have USB? (This ease the task a lot)
    Your dealer will probably ask you for at least 1000GBP and it can only be done if you have on of 609/606/663 option
    I had 662 (business crappy HU) and I added the 663 by my own with S6FL and S6NN (USB and Bluetooth options)

  • @JoseJJn
    @JoseJJn  Před 11 lety

    Your BMW dealer is not able to enable that.
    You will have to go to an independent codder or do it yourself.
    This is because this kinds of HU are only suitables for cars from 2011. (Even when they work perfectly with all e9x series from 2005)

    No, it is not difficult if you are used to NCS Expert.

My question is, if I buy the USB/Aux Socket and the Coaxial fakra wire for USB, will it work or do I have to code it? And if so how do I do that? Can the bmw Dealer do it?

    Hi, i just installed a Pro HU with bluetooth and USB from a 11/10 E91 with stereo in my 07 pre LCI E87 with Hifi and business radio.
    It worked straight away, but it was not coded for hifi and had wrong setup for my car. I removed the 662 HU and added 663 to my VO, then i also added 6FL and 6NN to my VO. After that i reset_sg 2RAD. Now it shows Hifi, but i have gotten a popping sound every 2-3 seconds, and the MOST is flashing red behind the radio (my car does not have MOST).
    How can i deactivate this?
    Also, after sg_reset bluetooth phone dissapeared from the radio, it was there (and working) before i reset it.. Tried to change production to 03/11 but it did not help to get BT back, or get the USB to show.
    Hope you have a few tips to point me in the right direction! Thanks! :-)

    The video says that all you need is the BT microphone and some extra wires/connectors for USB and AUX. But what about the BT speaker? Normally BMW BT uses an extra speaker installed under the steering column (in that general area). What speaker does this headunit use? Does it rely on "normal" speakers for voice when talking on the phone?

Hi Jose, thanks for the video! Do you think the app Bimmercode can do the coding job properly? My 2012 E82 came with a Professional Head Unit with BT Phone but no USB function available. I took out the HU and confirmed it has a USB plug. I understand the hardware part but I'm not familar with the software coding and I want to see if using the Bimmercode with a cheap bluetooth / wifi OBD2 scanner can do the job? Thank you!

      No idea of how Bimmercode app works... If you can enable features with this app, it sould be enough

    greetings Jose. thank you for the video you shared with us. I have lci e91 with business cd HU. I would like to be able to read from a usb stick. the question is, if someone has already read USB on professional CD HU, then there is no need for additional coding or? because there is no one in my area who knows how to code the radio.

    • @posusak21
      @posusak21 Před 9 měsíci

      I mean buying a professional HU that someone has already used with usb, then no additional coding is needed

    • @JoseJJn
      @JoseJJn  Před 9 měsíci

      @@posusak21 If you buy a HeadUnit from a donor car with already working Bluetooth and USB, it would be plug&play. Codding is always recommendable but would work without codding.
      But it wont work as good as it suppose to. You have to have in mind that every car body has its own equalization...
      Regards.

      greetings, thank you for your reply. I already managed to find a used HU with a bluetooth and usb connector, I also managed to get the original cables that go from the HU to the backrest where the aux and usb port are. what bothered me was that the new aux had 4 wires and the old 3, I don't know why it was used, but I managed to add that 4 wire to the existing radio connector. just as I added 2 wires for the microphone, which were also not on the original connector, I have not yet threaded them to the place where the microphone is, above the interior rearview mirror. do you know if the wire for the microphone has already been routed and where to find it in which part

      @JoseJJn  Před 10 lety

      You can remove the handbrake gaiter pulling from it.
      Also you can remove the big trim that covers between the arm rest and the ashtray.
      Then insert it. I ran it by the left side (near my seat)

    Is it possible to use USB and AUX over mulf2 optical connection on this radio? Previously I had PU without BT but with USB and AUX connected to mulf2. Now USB and AUX do not work :S.

    • @JoseGarcia-rk7ds
      @JoseGarcia-rk7ds Před 3 lety

      I dont understand what do you want to do.
      If you have usb mulf2 then you only have to enable BT in both mulf and HU.
      If you install this all-in-one head unit you dont need mulf2.
      So this is why I am not sure what you mean.

    Hallo Jose! Greeting from Greece! Top credits for the excellent job!
    I have a question for you and I would obliged if you can help me: Just did the same retrofit to my 2006 320si and alhough the USB icon exists on the menu, the head unit cannot read memory sticks. It propts the message "insert USB". The cable is good (tried three of them) and the USB port a brand new BMW part - even the memory stick gets warm, a sign that there is a current flow. The seller insists that the head unit has been coded before shipping, but i doubt that. Bluetooth works fine though... If it wasn't coded, the USB icon would still be there? Please help! :)

      Forgot that: Tried 2 identical USB sticks, one on FAT and the other on FAT32 format. No good either way...

    Jose, help! A previous owner swapped my head unit to a professional one. I unplugged it trying to work out why the cd changer didn’t work not knowing it wasn’t factory. Now the microphone doesn’t work. Do you have instructions on coding it back in?

    • @JoseJJn
      @JoseJJn  Před 3 lety

      If you only have disconnected it, the coding parameters shoudn't change so everithing had to work in the same way. You have to check if the new one has 'Optical Fiber' connector on it. If so, then you need NCS Expert to recode the new HU and enable Bluetooth and CD Changer again.
