  • The incredible Sony TA-FA777ES integrated amplifier is one of the most beautiful amplifiers I've had the pleasure of working on. Sadly, beasts like this are very hard to replace with modern equivalents, so service and repair are always sensible options. Take a look with me as I service this heavyweight monolith!

    Nice Channel mate. I have the Sony XA50ES CD Player and JA50ES Mini Disc Player which I refuse to get rid of for some reason. I wish I could get my hand on an amp just like this as my amplifier died on me

      Hi and thanks for stopping by! I do my best to, but my videos are down the list of priorities compared with the work I do for my customers and the detailed articles you'll find at liquidaudio.com.au. That's the best place for all the nuts and bolts. Some vids have more than others, at this stage I just do hand-held shots, no tripods or multiple cameras, so I can't film whilst I'm soldering for example. I'll keep working on the videos, but as a busy specialist repairer with dozens of repairs in the pipeline, I can't spend much time creating the videos, editing etc. Not yet anyway, I'm working on it!

    Side panels looks to be the same as in all ES series and easily can be removed to get access :) 4 screws each side only.

    • @LiquidAudio
      @LiquidAudio  Před 2 lety

      Yep, sure enough, the four screws release the panel as anyone would expect. Behind that, an internal chassis completely blocks the test points! This is the reason for the special test jig for equipment like this.

  • @redstrat1234
    @redstrat1234 Před 4 lety +1

    Hi there, always wondered how to set bias - was the voltmeter not accurate enough of a reading that you used those other pieces of test equipment ?

    • @LiquidAudio
      @LiquidAudio  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi, thanks for your question. Each of the voltage measurements is made using what you might call a voltmeter, but I have different models with varying levels of precision and other features to suit the wide range of work I do. I can't recall what I used in this video, but likely the Keithley bench DMM, which has higher precsion and much faster update rate, plus maybe the Tek DM-501A. If you have a quality handheld like the Fluke mustimeters I use for example, these are accurate enough to use for setting bias, but having higher precision bench instruments allows both channels to be more easily and precisely measured and set at the same time which is really how it should be done.

    I have this amp but with different power capacitors,
    mine are not Elna.but Nichicons.
    This amp has very clean treble.but.overall sound is not natural,
    it has some unique light and relaxed sound .
    The treble is ultra clean,mids are ok but bass is tiny .
    To me much better sound has their TA-F870ES amp,it had everything but if you wanna unique sound with silky clean highs TA-FA777ES could be good choice,
    especially for vocal type of music ,
    it is really relaxed sound,hard to describe,
    a lot of air around highs,
    unreal .
    Also original power cable should be replaced with better one .
    the price of amp was 2200 euro in Europe,so not that much comparing
    to Accuphase or Mcintosh or Mark Levinson 383.which I have heard and was not impressed at all .

    In your opinion is a TA-F570ES a great entry level integrated amp? I won one at a bidding for 5,000¥ and it's on its way. I'm not crazy about sound, i'm just aiming for above average. Will it be fine if you were in my humble shoes?

    • @LiquidAudio

    Thanks! I have read that the TA designation is for a particular division within Sony while looking for this machine: czcams.com/video/_PrU4uEw2GM/video.html . Is that true? It seems that they make really good one-in-the-range machines like the TA-FA1200ES or TA-A1ES.

    • @LiquidAudio
      @LiquidAudio  Před 2 lety

      TA is the designator Sony uses for amplifiers, so all their hi-fi stereo amps are TA-something. Beyond that, I don't know if it has any other meaning!
