    I can't tell you just how much pleasure/joy my wife and I get form watching your real time cruises just wonderful, just one of the reasons we are now in the process of having our own boat built. It's a widebeam so unfortunately won't be able to cruise all the waterways you've been, making your real time cruises that much more special for us. Big thank you!

  • @viktoriaelisabethrotenbour8285

    I sat and watched this vlog on my 32inch TV, no other lights on and a J.D and cola beside me so relaxing. It's like I'm sitting there in the bow traveling with you. Thank you.

    *Thank You David* 😊❤
    This was wonderful to listen to early this morning as a kind of meditation. It took me back to my youth when I would rest in our boat's bow berth listening/feeling the rumble the engine, hearing the gurgling of the water along the hull, as we made for our home mooring after a long day trip. 🌌
    Now I am enjoying the scenery as I watch this in the background at work! 💁

    I always love these " Not a V'logs ". The only downside is I quickly start to get very relaxed. With the gentle rolling countryside the drone of the engine, I begin to drift off. Good thing you have to stand to steer. If you drift off, you really will drift off right into the water. You know at the 12:00 minute mark it did indeed sound like you were snoring. Lol pleasant dreams. Hopefully dry ones as well :-)

    As it´s raining horisontally here in Gothenburg today I got out of bed and sat down on my "office"-chair in front of the computer and watched the long prequel to this film and with the autumn colours here I got an idea of the ultimate jigsaw puzzle, 1500-2000 pieces and the picture a long and soft canal bend to the right with a stone/brick bridge in the distance of the bend with a cottage beside it, smoke from the chimney. In the bend a narrowboat where in the early crisp morning still moist the crew has come up and fired the stove and put the frying pan on it to prepare breakfast so if one uses the nose extra well one can feel a thin whiff of smoked ham together with the coal, in other words the complete idyll. To fullfill the idyll there are some birds swimming on the mirrorlike water where the trees, the boat, the cottage and the bridge can be seen in the forefront too.

    That must be the noisiest of all your vlogs, with the railway close on one side and the M1 on the other for most of it. For a new bridge, that one just after Weedon looks rather grand from the canal, much better than it does from the road.

  • @hanskouwenberg4882
    @hanskouwenberg4882 Před 4 lety +1

    Maybe the sound is exaggerated in the recording, but.... did you ever think of silencing the engine? I know bargees on the continent managed to get 3/4 of the noise suppressed by building an insulation case around the engine. Or swap the engine entirely for an electric drive. It would enhance the feeling of "quiet and calm"...

    • @984francis
      @984francis Před 4 lety

      I agree. The engine is very clattery.

    • @CruisingTheCut
      @CruisingTheCut  Před 4 lety

      The engine does have a silencer and silencing material in the engine bay already. Swapping for an electric drive would be a monumental and expensive task that's not worth the effort on my old boat.

    • @anitablades6033
      @anitablades6033 Před 4 lety +1

      @@CruisingTheCut the engine was louder at the beginning, but I could hardly hear it by the end. Please don't cut the back ground sound, they can turn down their sound. I wear headphones to hear every thing it's part of the experience!!!! Great Vid!!!

    I enjoy the semi-silent running - please do more.
    QUESTION ??? -- about how many engine RPM are you cruising at and about what speed?

  • @RigaRoosterMikeJohnson

    QUESTION ??? do all the leaves on the water cause any problems with the water intake to the engine or with the prop? - Any other problems caused by debris on water?
    QUESTION ??? - why does the engine "rev" for a few seconds every once and a while? like time 1:02:51 /53

    • @CruisingTheCut
      @CruisingTheCut  Před 4 lety

      The engines are mostly cooled by a skin tank rather than raw water intake so not a problem (some older ones do have that though and yes, the leaves would be a nuisance)

    • @CruisingTheCut
      @CruisingTheCut  Před 4 lety

  • @user-ef8xi1vk8p
    @user-ef8xi1vk8p Před 3 lety

    If I am ever so fortunate as to get my own boat, I would look for a very high tech, small diesel engine with a sound deadening exhaust or an electric motor. You have done wonders for the narrowboats and the live aboard life style. I wonder if you could get a horse to pull you along. It would be much quieter and one could hear the birds as well as the horse could eat the grass around the pathways when you docked for the night. You have covered most of the boating realities so now David, what could you have to lose or should I say, what could go wrong? Hahaha. You might start something rather interesting and gain a few hundred thousand new subscribers. Hmmm...

    Is it my imagination, or has the engine noise increased with this recording?
    It would be so much better to hear the surrounding sounds, without the constant intrusion of diesel fuel being burnt, at a level which makes this less enjoyable than it could be.
    A different microphone/location?
    A post-dub perhaps?

    • @CruisingTheCut
      @CruisingTheCut  Před 4 lety

      It's an older recording before I had the separate bow recorder for audio, so it's coming off the bow camcorder, which has a propensity to pick up more engine noise, for no readily apparent reason.
