The synonym for "polyglot" is NOT linguist, it is "multilingual". A linguist is a specialist who researches and evaluates different aspects of language.
Yes you right
@Detlef, a word can have more than one synonyms. For example, the synonyms for "polyglot" = (linguist, multilingual...etc)
@@englishtestsandlogic You are right, however, the meaning of "linguist" as someone who speaks different languages is really a derived meaning. The ending -ist implies someone knowledge in languages - so it is assumed that he also speaks them, whereas polyglot doesn't imply that he actually knows something about languages, he just speaks many languages.
@Detlef, thanks for the clarification. Are you a Linguist?😊
I agree
17/20. Never heard of the word puerile
Nice one, ed rivera.😊👍
100% as usual - too easy! How about asking for the synonym of “hippopotomonstrosesquipedalian”? You need some harder words that people rarely use!
Yes,a polyglot is one who speaks several languages.
A linguist studies the languages.
When answers keys given are wrong , don't be surprised. But I hope they realize it and correct the mistakes so as not to mislead the rest who are unaware of the errors.
Thank you.
Good stuff! Thumbs up!
I appreciate that. Cheers!

Got them all right. This was fairly easy for an educated or well read native English speaker. It got a little less easy towards the end, but I knew what the words didn't mean and guessed right in one or two cases.

Same here, is it a more modern word possibly, I'm 60 but it isn't a word I have heard used and I've lived in NZ and Ireland as well as UK. Guess correctly mind, but wondered if it was modern slang or specific to a region I haven't lived in.
Same here.

@Scott Vaughn, your score was amazing. Keep up the good work.😊👍
Linguist is correct. A person having a speaking, reading, or writing knowledge of several languages.
I'm 75 years old and I'm fairly well educated and I read a lot, and in all my years I've never heard of the words 'scrummy' or 'tyro.' They are worthless words in my opinion.
18/20 Scrummy and tyro got me.
Well done, angivens86. 😊👍
Those two were tricky, but crummy had to be a derivitive of scrumptious, and tyro is a word occasionally used in old novels.
I meant scrummy.
"Scrummy"? "Tyro"? Never heard of these words before. Scrumptious, yes, scrummy, never. Newbie, yes, tyro never. Count me 18/18. #10 & #16 shouldn't count. I considered myself well read. I've read almost 2,700 books in the past 10 years. My library will confirm that! In 2014, I got rid of about 5,000 books when I moved to a smaller place. (I did take about 2,000 with me.)
Good job, J THE V! You're such an erudite figure. Keep up the good work.😊👍

Wow...congratulations! @Ebenezer, your score was great. Keep up the good work.😊👍
19. I suppose that "scrummy," should have brought "scrumptious," to mind. Alas, it didn't.
I do agree with Detlef Kretschmer that "multilingual," would have been a proper synonym for "polyglot." My choice agreed with your offerings, by process of elimination.
Good job, Caty Lynch. You're such a smart cookie. Keep up the good work.😊👍

Drat - tyro got me. I have never heard of that word before. 19/20
@ELIZABETH-ANNE, your score was fantastic. Keep up the good work.😊👍💃
The synonym of Poliglot is Multilingual, not Linguist. I agree completely with Detlef with his clarification of the differences.
According to Cambridge English Dictionary, a "Polyglot" is someone who can speak or use several different languages.
According to Oxford Advanced Dictionary, a "Linguist" is a person who knows or speaks several foreign languages well.
While "Multilingual" means, speaking or using several different languages.
@Bielochka, a word can have more than one synonyms. The synonyms of "big" = (large, huge, colossal, enormous, giant etc)
In this case, "polyglot" has more than one synonyms, which are: (Linguist, Multilingual etc)

@Yolanda, you're most welcome!
17/20, but polyglot isn't a synonym of linguist, one can master several languages without being a linguist
@mapes1, in the options provided, which word is nearest in meaning to "polyglot"?
@@englishtestsandlogic no one, but still, proposing "linguist"
@@englishtestsandlogic I agree, no one, but in my modest opinion offering linguist as the only accepted right synonym of multilingual is completely wrong 😃
😃😂😄😎
"linguist" is a synonym for "polyglot"? You really should get either a fluent speaker of English or someone with access to a thesaurus to create test items for you.
@Erik P, please, don't comment on posts when you are not sure of yourself. It's just so obvious that a lot of people these days are too lazy to do research. I spend over 10 hours doing research just to create a video. The thesaurus you're referring to indicates "linguist" as the first entry for "polyglot". @Erik P, if you need attention, this is not the right place. We're here to learn and correct ourselves in a sensible way like adults.
@@englishtestsandlogic Unfortunately, the fact that you spent a lot of time on "research" doesn't make you right.
