Using metal tongs on the non-stick surface = bad move. Please use plastic tipped or equivalent tongs to avoid ruining the non-stick coating. Just like a normal bbq, move and reposition food as it cooks for even cooking. As for the base being a heating element - it will be, just doesn’t go right to the edges. And that’s probably a good thing as allows fat and oil to drain to the edge and stay cool not smoking and catching alight.

I estimate I used about 120 watts (10 amps) for a 15 minute cook up- which I reckon is a very good return on investment 👍
